nowadays, few people have a habit of reading a book but surf the Internet in their spare time. take me for an example, actually I am a relatively free person. And I have piles of time to be left but I can hardly hold a book in my hand or even put a book beside my pillow. Ten years ago, I have put several books which I like best behind my pillow and I could real several pages before I slept. But now modern technology has changed my habit and ruined my life. Sometimes, I felt scared that what should our next generation do without computers but books and what could they do with books. what is your opinion on this issue?

I agree, technology has definitely made an impact on how much people sit down and enjoy books. I definitely still prefer sitting down with a good ole' fashion book instead of reading online though. It puts a lot of stress on my eyes and can actually be quite frustrating to read online. I would much rather lay down with a good book. However, I haven't done this in awhile. I bet I could cut the time I spend on Facebook in half and pick up a book instead! I bet it would be good for me and much more relaxing. It'd be nice to get away from the techno world for awhile!

hi cinquer2012 i can say that you are right because it much more easy to search on the computer rather than the books but i can say that the books is much more complete rather than the internet i am student nurse and we need to have a many reference and one of our reference is the net but some of our research work doesn't have in the computer only in the books .

I think people are already getting used to leaving paper books because of the ebook reader. It has the same feel of the real book but could it be the same as playing a handheld video game because of the light that they put in front of them? When I touched one, I didn't see their were much light like a handheld video game. But then gadgets like apple ipod, iphone, ipad, and androids have them too and they have lots of light that can make people blind (or not blind but bad eyes) as if playing a handheld video game. But then, they are still reading. I hope I made sense.

Technology has really changed alot of things but I will not say that it ruined my life, infact it made our lives easier with all its push button features. I also books and I have a habbit of reading before going to sleep but now that I have a smartphone with e-book reader I chose to download the e-version of the book or novel I like to read and just read it on my phone. Call it space and energy saving. lol.

In my own opinion, computer technology can't still replace books. Books are really important. The information can be place intact and you can read it even there's no electricity. Unlike computers, you can't view it if there's a blackout or lost the file if you really need a system reformat. No need to worry about the next generation though, what we need to focus is how we will shape and guide our young fellas. We still need to promote books. And I think books are still the number one teaching medium used in schools.

I borrow books from my local library and I buy books. If I buy books from a book shop in the High Street I pay the full price. Therefore I like to order books on the Internet from Amazon. I wasn't interested in computers until I was in my first teaching job. I went through the whole of university not into computers at all. I spend a lot longer on my laptop than I do reading books nowadays. Books are still very important to me but my laptop is too. There are even e books these days: electronic books. I wonder what it will be like for the next generation. For many people in today's world computers have replaced books.

I think that a lot more people are using computers instead of reading books these days, and sadly it is just the way that the world is going in the modern day. With every possible piece of information at our fingertips, it no longer makes sense to leaf through a book when we could just as easily find everything that we need to know within a much shorter period of time. I still read a book before I go to sleep, as I find that it helps me to switch off from the things that have been happening during the course of the day, meaning that I get much higher quality sleep than I would have done if I had simply spent the whole of the day on the computer.

Love computers and I love books. I think that when considering information that you're going to need to look up, the Internet and computers is an invaluable resource, that you can allow you a great deal of knowledge being put into your minds. Research has been cut in about a third of the time with computers and that is a good thing as the pace of everything is much quicker.
I think however actual casual reading being replaced by electronic reading, that's not a think that I enjoy. I just enjoy the feeling about the book in my hand. The sounds, the sights, the smells of the turning of the pages. There are just few things that are better. Sadly this coming generation is going to be thrown straight into the technology waters much sooner than mine was and will not experience the joys of books.

great topic dear. I love reading and thats what helped me write and earn money online. I urge all children to read and buy books for them so that they can learn more instead of playing games and ruining eyes. Did you know that China is leading not only in population but also has the maximum myopia or short sighted people. Short sight is more or less created due to poor long distance viewing because everyone is interested in watching television and computer screens from a short distance. If children are made to read books then the situation will improve. Buy picture books and read them at bed, slowly they will know the pleasures of reading and discovering the joy of the printed word.

Hello conquer2012,
I feel the same way. I dont feel very comfortable holding a book in my hand and reading it. I sit and look in my computer and scroll down. I usually read books from downloaded sites online, there is no need to purchase books because computer makes it easier for us to read online.

there are things that cannot be replaced with books, until now i collect novels. Yes! the collections in which we can brag with our friends, the books on a shelf no more can feel better with a customized collection of your favorite books on a shelf, though i can just download pdf and audio books online i instead buy books from my favorite authors, it can add to our collection and at the same time help the author so that he will be motivated to write more novels that people can enjoy.

To a greater extent, computers have replaced books. Now a days reading habits among people got reduced. But still i feel like, one cannot experience the feeling which we get from books from computers.

It's obvious that most people use iternet more and more nowadays. AS a result, anyone has the intention to look there for what he wants....Also It is the sensation tha you are in fashion, in technology, in modern life....THAT is a common fact ,so "practicals" just follow and make Internet stronger and stronger ...

I think some habits really changed with this easy access to technology. I was a person who loved to read too, like 4, 5 books in a month sometimes. Nowadays I hardly read more than 1 by month and I think this number will only decrease.
On the other side, there are a lot of people who get more access to books, with virtual books nowadays. For real, I am not a person who like to read books in computer, but some people don't care and it is a cheaper option.
But I don't think books will dissapear. It is like the radio, a lot of years ago people said the radio would dissapear too, but it exists until now. Maybe the books will not have the same status they have now, but they will continue to be an important part of people's live. Even if they won't be printed anymore, just virtuals.
