I was raised the same way glowin. I believe it is the polite, kind, and right thing to do. Part of that is showing respect. Let's face it, older people, whether they look fit or not, often have health problems we can't see, and being young, it's nice to at least offer them the seat. Even though I'm in my 60's, I still offer MY seat to pregnant women, elderly, etc. Whether they take it or not is up to them. I raised my children to be that kind of people, and am teaching my grandchildren the same kind of respect and thoughtfulness towards others. I think now-a-days people no longer teach their children to think of others, and it's 'first come/first served.' When you think about it, it is selfish not to consider others. I've seen high school aged kids leave a person with a cane standing when they could have been kind and at least offered their seat. Even though I myself use a cane, I will still offer.
