When a child is under 18,I think that room of theirs should be considered belonging to the parent and the parent should feel free to check the room for things that may not be allowed by the child. Exception to the rule would be...if the child is dressing or undressing they should have their privacy until they are done.

yes friend your right, kids when they are mature enough to understand things then there wil be no need for the parent to involve much,Age 18 ,some kids when they are small they do not like anyone enter when they dress .They learn and know things from the parents and others, parents should check however it should not be that the parents are being a CBI officer,It should be like they are guardians only.

I am a little conflicted on my thinking here. I do think that children need some privacy, and a parent should not be able to just barge in and go through their stuff any time they want, especially if the child keeps a diary or journal - those things are private and not the parents' business, in my opinion. On the other hand, if there is some reason you suspect your child is hiding something from you, especially if it is something serious, then I think you should be direct and ask the child about it and give him or her the opportunity to be honest. If that does not work and you still suspect something is seriously wrong, then I think that at that point it might warrant a room search.

I agree with your response. Children need guidance to be successful in life, and if we leave them to do anything that suits their temporary desires, they will suffer. Parents should take responsibility for ownership, just as if they are the benefactors of the house. That means, one should guide their child's tendencies to clean their room. However, being too strict with children will do harm, so it is good to let children explore their world.
