Dogs and cats are not friends if they put them together on a house. I saw them how they fight each other in real life and even on some cartoons. I am impress to those owners who had a cat and dog. Their pets get along together. How did the owner manage their own cat and dog to be friends? My best friend had more than one dog and only one cat. Her cat run away because of her dogs on her house. They keep fighting all the time.

The best, is to socialize the animals while younger, the younger the better, if the dog is adult, and has never been around a cat before, the most probably is that will try to chase t. Of course, as in humans, dogs has its own temper, and maybe a dog will have no problem to share the house with a cat, rabbit or any other pet, while for other it will be a problem. I have two dogs myself, about the same size, and age, very similar to one another, and one is always chasing birds squirrels, and any other small animal that comes to our backyard, and the other is more quite, I wouldn´t have a cat, because of the first one.

I think that some animals get adjusted nicely and some others don't. I'm guessing that it all depends on the animal?
I have two dogs and one cat. The american bulldog gets along with the cat very well but my poodle doesn't. Last night I was snuggling with my cat and the poodle came along and snapped at the cat! I could tell that the poodle wanted to go after my cat for awhile so I started petting the poodle to make him feel that he wasn't being ignored. It's going to be a challenge but these pets are going to have to get along like it or not. I think it will take some time for that to happen since I've only had the poodle for two weeks.

I've had dogs and cats together more than once and never had a problem. Both times, the dog was there first. Then we got a kitten. At first the kitten is afraid of the dog and not sure what to do but after awhile they got along and even napped together. I think certain breeds of dogs just aren't meant to be put with cats. We have two big Labradors now and they are great with cats. We have a inside cat and a stray that comes around outside and they are fine with both. They get excited to see them which kind of scares the cat at first but once they realize the dogs just want to sniff them and say hi they are fine.

We have 7 dogs & 3 cats
2 of the cats were in the house before the dogs and in saying so I think that the dogs realise who is the head of the house - the cats (Nala & KC)
Our 3rd cat - Simba - came in to the house when he was 12 weks old - and we had 6 of the dogs
We waited about a month before they were introduced although the dogs and Simba both knew about each other - sounds & smell - and no problems
Simba is now 18 months old and if anything he's in charge of the other 2 cats as well !!
I think it's the relationship that the humans have with their animals that makes the difference
The dogs see how loving we are to the cats and vice versa for the cats so that's how they get on because we set the example
As dogs are pack animals they see the cats as part of the pack even though they might think they have a funny bark !!
