Deleted my account in Facebook.

Just today, I submitted my account to be deleted. All I get from Facebook is a bunch of promotional notifications from others. None of my friends are on Facebook. (They are still on Orkut.) I have accepted friendship requests from some members. After that what I get is invitation to their events and other messages, mostly related to their business. (Probably a pyramid or investment scheme.) So, I found my Facebook account to be useless. (If I want to share anything with my friends, I am using Orkut. We are already used to one, and don't want another social networking.) By the way, anyone know how to delete the facebook account? The link is not in your account settings or profile. Then how will you delete, if you want to? (I did it successfully.)

Hello Venkat, It may be a good step as you felt that the face book account is useless for you. Since it is not serving any good purpose, you may done a great job by deleting it. I don’t have a face book account so I don’t know what are the good things you will get from there.

Are you on Orkut or any other social networking sites? Facebook has good design than orkut and better applications too. But, it didn't serve anything for me as all my friends and relatives are on orkut.

Oh..at least we could have become friends in fb.. I have invited few but none joined. It's really overwhelming to have more social networking sites. And I am the only to use the computer for long time. Others, they just switch on the PC, check their emails, do little more on orkut and then switch off. I used the search box in facebook to find the information.

I think you can not delete your facebook account. You can only deactivate it. I did deactivate my old account to create new account as a user can have only one active facebook account only.

Yes. There is only link to deactivate our account. For deletion, we have to request through the 'Help center' only.

No social site is a waste and no social site is a good one,we are the one who have to make it worth or a waste. It depends on how we use the features without hurting us and anyone.

you destroy your Facebook profile because you had enough good for you. I know what you just send messages of different people and sometimes even strangers, in a moment us mad. I can tell you how to wipe out user just need to enter your account and enter your personal information where you will find exactly how Facebook will be closed. it will simply be disabled but you can activate it whenever you want. successful and enjoyable day!

Yeah. It feels bored to see those unwanted updates. I just deleted instead of deactivating, since I found it's not for me, at least for now. Who knows, later I may need a facebook account.

very true friend. sometimes it is a very good option for today but tomorrow they will may be there again. you just do not have to delete it but just to interrupt for a moment. Yet it is very nice that you have the courage to deactivate your account and to rest all these invasions and attacks. Have a nice day!

One can actually hide what a friend posts so you don't see it. I have blocked all the game posts and apps . You can hide all the posts from certain friends, or just the posts related to certain games. It helps a lot. They never know you aren't seeing everything they post.

I have an account on Facebook, I almost never enter there, I just did it, after reading your article, because of curiosity, and I couldn´t find the way to delete it either, not because I want to, I just don´t pay much attention to FB anymore, I spend most of time hre on mylot now, and I agree with you, all you get from FB is notifications from people you don´t even know, most of the time.

I think that you are right, for yourger people sites like facebook is actually kind of an addiction, even, sometimes their times at facebook is more important for them than their studies, and socializing in the virtual world, more important than doing it in real life.

May be, young people find the social networking sites to be useful. Others, they have lot of works to be done in a day and have less time to communicate in the virtual world. Young people, socializing is their main thing apart from studies and play. The worries of daily routine don't bother them.

I don't see why people feel the need to delete their accounts on Facebook. If you don't want to use it, why not just stop logging in and just leave it there? I find that I need to keep my account open because I don't get invited to places if I don't use it anymore. People use that website to create their events, and they just don't bother to get in touch with people in any other way so I would miss out if I didn't keep my account and check it perhaps once each week. Also, it's lovely just to be able to get to see photographs of your friends and family who you might not be able to see all that much anymore.

You may know, while signing up with facebook, we are automatically subscribed to their updates. When we get overwhelmed by their updates, we (atleast I) become tired of unsubscribing from each individual updates. As there was no known friend in Facebook (everyone was just from the Virtual world. I don't know any of them.), instead of unsubscribing from each friend, I decided to delete my account. My real friends and family are still on Orkut. They didn't move to Facebook, because we are using it for long time and our photos are stored in Orkut.

They put the "Help Center" eye-catchy enough, at the above of "Log Out" option, so I think I will go there if I am going to delete my account permanently. And yeah, actually it is easy to find out the way to delete account in the help center. Found it here: http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=224562897555674&ref_query=delete+acc And the form to submit it here: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account Well, I wouldn't submit it in the near time though :p. I am still using Facebook and found many usefulness there..

No. It's not in the account settings. It's in the 'Help centre'. That too, there's only link to request for deletion. It will take 14 days to permanently delete our account. Till then it will be in 'deactivated' state. We ourselves can't delete our account.

That should be "closest" friends, not "closet" friends. I was very proud to have Sandy as a friend and would never have wanted to hide it.
