I noticed that a lot of people in here want to know why india didnt adopt a 1 child policy, why is india not growing like china etc etc. Everyone knows the answer to that also.A democratic country wouldnt force its people to have 1 child. Two child policy is a good thing but only a dictatorship country can ask for a 1 child policy. India is lagging behind china not because our growth is slow but because we started industrialisation like 15 years after china did.Our present gdp growth almost near to that of china, even though they have very good infrastructure and ours is lagging decades behind.Once we modernise our infrastructure we might also become an export hub like china i guess.

I actually haven't heard or seen that question before. Does India have a policy about that at all? I almost think that we should have some kind of population control policy in the United States, but I can't imagine having to resort to a permanent policy. I don't have any kids and have no plans to have any at the moment, mostly because I don't think I can support them right now, mentally or physically. I wish more people would consider that before having children; then we might not need those kinds of laws.

No there is no population restriction in india. There used to be a 2 child policy in the early 70s but it was taken back because of people questioned it.But in the present day, most of the people have themselves adopted a 2 child policy, excluding the ones who don't have a male child. The 'question' i am referring to is the one that has been repeatedly asked by the indians in this forum - "why india dont have 1 child policy"etc.

i think because it is a big country and with so many citizen in poverty, it is a big task. Plus there is too many corruption in india. so it would take longer time to change the mentality in india. I believe at least another 10 years it will take to give rise to a better india..

corruption is there everywhere in the world. And yeah, around half of total population in india lves in poverty but still it can improve as the economy grows rapidly. It is true that 1 child policy would immensely help to improve the quality of life of people in terms of money but in fact quality of life is subjective and there are lot of people who would like to have more than 1 child even though they don't have much money.
