I always work on the laptop putting it on charge . Even when the battery is fully charged I keep on charging it so that the battery charge is always full . Am I doing wrong ? Someone here discussed that he takes off the battery and charges it by electric energy . I never take out the battery . Is this wrong way of handling . Please clear my doubts . Thanks in advance .

You should only charge a battery when it needs charging, and when the battery is fully charged at 100% you should unplug it. By constantly charging the battery, and this is the same for any appliances that you have to charge, it wears them out quicker and therefore you have to waste money on new batteries

My husband told me that if i take out the battery of my laptop the windows can get damage, so I don't do it.
I know that when the battery reach the full point you can unpluged because it doesn't needs mre battery, and it can get damage if you don't unpluge it.

I think there is nothing wrong in charging the battery while working. Rather I feel it saves our time which laptop may take if it is charged in off position.
I also do like you.

Thanks for your response . You are right . Actually I used to keep it on charge even after my battery was fully charge . I understood the mistake and I am following what other mylotters suggested

Hi rollylolly,
You should take out the battery after a full charge. If you don't, your battery is susceptible to wearing, since the electrolytes in the battery are drying. So, my advice is, take the battery out, and recharge it again after the power lessens.
On the other hand, not charging your battery for a long time also causes battery damage. Same reason as above. I usually recharge the battery once a week, when I'm using the power supply to power my notebook.
Happy Mylotting! .

Hi, taking out the battery will help prolong its life, and i believe so, so in that case what type or brand of power supply are you using or would you recommend? Thanks..

Over-charging a battery is harmful to the battery. How harmful it is depends on the type of battery, but it is definitely not a good thing to do.

Actually I come to know some people who keeps taking off their battery when it is full and use their laptop while it is plug and their battery only lasted up to more than a year.
I never took off my laptop battery.
What i did is, i unplug my laptop and use the charged battery till it is almost drain and charged it again while I am using my laptop.
My laptop battery is now more than 3 years and still in good condition.
So, it's hard to tell what is right and how does our laptop battery will have a longer life.
Maybe that depends on the brand as well.
have a good day

I have a Dell laptop for four years now and is always plugged in with the battery in it. I have yet to have any issues with it and or loss of battery. One day I thought I had an issue with the battery as it was not charging. So I went online and someone stated that leaving it plugged in does not kill the battery.
So I took the battery out and put it back in and it started to charge. I noticed in the setting that I have the battery set to off when the plug is in, so maybe this is why it is not affecting mine.

Mine is found in the control panel - power options - then in power schemes. This where I can set my options for both the electrical and the battery options.

Hi HWG I think I don't have this option to set the battery off when it is plugged in . If possible could you please let me know how to adjust this in the settings ? I have a Sony Vaio laptop and this January it will be 2 years old .

I have heard discussions that say leaving a battery on charge will shorten it's life. However, laptops have sophisticated charging circuits that are designed to help prevent this. I have 2 MacBook Pros, one of which is 4 years old. If I am home they stay plugged in, and it's hard to get a battery out of a Mac, you need to remove the bottom cover to access it. That being said, I never remove their batteries, and they both seem to last as long on battery as they are designed to, and I have never replaced their batteries.
My Dell Studio has a 9 cell battery and it is 27 months old. I use it the same way, and it's battery is holding up just fine. On all of my laptops I do let the battery run down to about 50% once a month.
One other point to consider, laptops are designed to throttle down their processors and such to save power when on battery. So your computing experience may be slower by running on battery. You can of course change this behavior in power preferences, but then you would lose the benefit of power saving, unless you switched it back.

You're doing it wrong my dear.
According to experts, batteries has certain number of charges allowed. If your battery over charged, then there's a tendency for an early retirement.
