Do the DO's!

I have to admit that when I have joined Mylot, I had many discussions deleted, because I have broken the guidelines. This happened because I haven't read them and I have learned many rules by the hard way, on my own "expense".
Now, when I read the guidelines, they seem very easy and very important to keep this community as "clean" as possible.
How was your beginning at mylot? Did you read the guidelines? Are you following them?
Do you do the Do's and are you avoiding the DON'T's?

I have the guidelines memorized!
Although I do enter a lot of violations simply to try and help those that don't know them well. My way of helping, as for do I do the do's? Yes when it comes to my own discussions I do literally.
When it comes to others discussion, no. But again I usually know the deletions is coming and hopefully with my response some can find it helpful.

Interesting enough. I guess the experience of both of you have made you learn all of the discussions.
@hardworkinggurl: What do you mean by "service announcements"?

Occasionally PPE adds that to some of his discussions. Although some of the discussions he starts are things that can be found in the FAQ. However, since a lot of members don't really read, he likes to cater some interesting, fun and informative discussions that not only helps new members but continually reminds all users to read and or follow the guidelines.
I have a great many of his discussions on various of his accounts bookmarked so when I see a lost member who after I give my response to, like to direct them to his "service announcements".
Then later I can see they actually did read "service announcement", as their participation styles improves and or changes in the right direction.

I do both the do's and the don'ts... now.
When I joined I didn't and six months later I got sent to banned land for posting ref links
I came back because I had made so many friends here and I really took things seriously. So seriously that I can now help others too, if and when they are willing to be helped.
MyLot has so much to offer us and there is no other site like it that it is our loss if we don't follow them

If yours were violations then they would go.
If they stay put then they are not, even though some are sooooo borderline

Hi there kate!
PurplePeopleEater (who was another name at the time) helped me and I pass it on to others. If you are now helping newer users too then it is all so worthwhile!
I find it to be fun helping out, especially when those who listen and use the advice get the same results that I get too and become happy Lotters

I don't think I do. I don't get comments or disscussions deleted or any banned warnings. mysdianait: you really helped me with mylot before thanks! I didn't know anything but you filled my brain with knowledge.Lol. Your always helping people on mylot. I'm starting to help people a bit say when they post a link to there site or when they do like one word answer or ask about money all the time. I just give them some advice.

I started here a long time ago and read the guidelines and the faq's. They have changed a little over the years, bit have primarily the same. I have always followed the rules and once challenged mylot admin when my discussion was deleted and got it reinstated. Its a good idea to read through them regularly, when they change no alert goes out about it.
Its good to read them to help others to understand them also, or refer them to the specific link.
So I do the do's and help with the don'ts.

When I start something new I want to know as much about it as possible. What better way to learn about a site than to read all the information provided by the site. I also have never really been a rule breaker. The only correspondence I have ever received from mylot has been positive. I would be mortified if they sent me something telling me I would be banned. Everyone is different though and that's what keeps mylot interesting. Never know what to expect from one discussion to another.

hi beanie fanatic I am the same way and somne here do not understand me but its the way I always do with a new website as it makes it
easier to get along with others if you know sorta what to do on the site and how to use it. yes indeed we are all a bit different and that makes it interesting here.

If everybody would be like you, things would go smoother. But I have to admit that I wasn't so interested in reading the guidelines and the FAQ's, even if I may have known at that time also that it will help me progress better.
I guess I need some negative experiences first and then check out the rules. Nowadays, I re-read them every now and then, but not so often.

I mostly just respond to discussions but I have had several of the discussions I have responded to deleted. A few of them I figured might be deleted but most of them, I had no idea then or now why they were deleted. The email said due to discussion guideline violations but I sure don't know how they violated the guidelines. I even went back and reread them several times and still don't know. Oh well, all I can do is my best not to respond to or post anything that I know breaks the rules but I'm sure there will be occasional deletions I won't foresee.

This happens to me as well, that I don't understand why a discussion is deleted, but it is not my concern. Maybe there are some discussions which are deleted by mistake, and one of the respondents to this topic have said that they have got their discussion put back, after contacting the admin.
I guess it is a very correct way to run this place, to be open to the member's request.

I have to admit that I don't read the FAQ's so frequently, but I do every now and then. I heard that those are not changing too often, so it is not so important to check in so often.
I agree that we need to be careful, because too many warnings and deleted discussions can lead us to banning.

have to be very careful when it comes to these things.
because such a ban and could disrupt our life and rhythm.
as I am accustomed to have fun here and if not go some day will be very disappointed, so be very careful.
so keep reading and be careful.
nice day!

read the guidelines and instructions just once and after i read i instantly forgot what i read....
so what i did is to follow my conscience....
some topics need to discuss more further, because we need to know and learn about it....
it seems sounds like arguing but in fact its learning more deeply....
so, i am never loosing something because i learn more...
the more you question, the more they answer, the more you learned new information's that sometimes you only learned it during school days....
I really love myLot....

Agree with you 100%. A person who makes questions is interested in the answers, and when you find a chat partner, who is really interested to share and debate, it is very constructive and fun.
Of course there are times when the discussions get a bit overheated and maybe they will be deleted, but if we learned something, it was worth it.

I wish more people would read the Dos and the Don'ts. I've had so many responses invalidated because the discussions have been deleted after breaking the rules...
That's why the guidelines are there - to let us know the proper way of posting responses or new discussions, uploading pictures, and so on.
So, my advice for all newcomers is: Read the Guidelines! It's for your own good!
@rappeter13 (8608)

Yes, it is a good advice, and we, the people who are older members of mylot know this. But when I was a newbie, I haven't read them, I just wanted to jump in the middle of the things. Now I know that it was wrong, because it caused me a slower progress, lower reputation and that affected the earnings also.
Now it is harder to build a better reputation, because it is easier to be careful at your reputation from the beginning, not only after you have established yourself in the middle. I have made a great progress since I started being more careful about the guidelines, but I still have lot to do.

I think most of the rules are that we cannot post any other site that offers online site because (I think) they don't want to be compared with other sites, not try to be rude and put offensive words here, and yea, be clean. I mostly think that all of the forum sites are like that. We cannot start bad or offensive discussions because then that'll start a bad argument between each other.

I think if posting affiliate links would be allowed, the whole mylot would be full of the links which lead to the same sites, over and over again. And that the majority of discussions would be only about other sites, and the responses would be meaningless. So this rules and guidelines keep the site as "clean" as possible.

I never respond to those discussions, because it is useless. Maybe I will try to PM the user who posted it, but I don't respond them, because it won't do any good, the discussion will be eventually deleted.

I happened on Mylot when using a search engine one night. It looked interesting so I got started posting before I read the guidelines. Sooooo, I learned the hard way by being disciplined a few times. Then I read them, but I did not memorize them like Hardworkinggurl, because back then, I was memorizing scripture from the bible most of the time. That is what I did the most. Wish I could make myself get back into it.
I try not to do anything I shouldn't anymore. But occasionally I screw up like the rest of 'em or get angry and say what I want. Had to stop doing that though cause I was about to lose my priveleges here, but sometimes when you are upset it doesn't matter at the time.

Yes, it happens to lose control a few times, and then you don't consider the rules. It is important to not make mistakes too many times and then things should be okay.
Let me ask you, I am curious about the reason of memorizing the verses from the Bible. I am a Christian also, but I only know the stories from there, not word by word. I don't want to be disrespectful, but I heard that there are people who memorize the scripture from the Bible and I am curious about the reason.

I would like to start off by saying, it's good to be back!
I used to be a regular on myLot. But other commitments kept me away for quite a while. This is the first discussion I am responding to and it feels great. Yay!
As a newbie on myLot, I used to refer to the guidelines quite often. Typically, I would get back to reading the guidelines when someone pointed a mistake that I had made or when a discussion of mine got deleted.
As you rightly pointed out, with time we learn that the guidelines are not hard to follow! I try to be a model myLotter when it comes to the Do's and the Dont's, but then you never know.

@cbeee: Let me welcome back you and I feel honored that this is the first discussion you answer after returning here. Hope you will find the joy and excitement needed to be active here and that you will get the proper spiritual and material rewards for that.
You were acting as a newbie just as I did and like the majority of the users did when they were newbies, I am sure of that. But after a while, when we will refer to the guidelines more and more, we feel that they are logical rules and it is normal to keep them, to make this community a strong one.

All my discussions have met the DOs of mylot guidelines and i'm glad about that. I've seen members always flounding the rules of mylot, causing other mylotters to suffer along with them. It's quite easy to follow those guidelines but some members just want to try their luck of not being noticed, but they failed. I'm usually such victims when starters are not considerate enough to determine if their post are right, and i get really sad to see my response gone down the drain.

When I was a newbie, I made many mistakes also and had a few discussions deleted till now. Then, after having this email warnings that I did something wrong, I started reading the guidelines and FAQ's and now I make less more mistakes.
I understand that the newbies want to jump in the middle of things and skip the reading, I was the same. But it is important to learn from the mistakes and reading the guidelines will help them a lot.

Well apparently at the beginning I had only one discussion deleted because it really did not discussed anything. Since then I post up comments and the discussions I commented ended up getting deleted which was bad. Now I post up real discussions and I really don't have a good idea about the guidelines but I'm pretty sure I'm not breaking since then and it was a good experience getting some things posted because its good to know that the community is involved.

I try to follow the rules here. Though, I must admit I still get deleted a lot of times. I thought it was ok to leave links as long as they are not ref links (as I sometimes see discs with links). Anyway, when I did it to my discussions, it was deleted the next day! Aw!!

I still post links in some of my discussions, but not reflinks, and it was never a problem till now. Maybe the content which was beyond those links had something which was against the rules, but this is only a guess.
Anyway, we are humans and we are allowed to mistake every now and then.

Like a student in a teachers classroom, i have always respect the rules. I do not have any choice. I have glanced through the rules even though i have not taken pain to study them critically. However, I try to be polite to fellow members. I try not to go too personal. I try never to post content that is abusive.
Finally, I thank the lord for the little amount of money ( income ) that my post have generated.
thanks rappeter!

Yes, it is important to follow the rules, even if it is a bit difficult, but as time passes by we get accustomed with them and then we don't think to them as rules, but as normal bounders which keep our discussions in reasonable limits.

Hi rappeter :)
I am still a new member here in mylot. I have read some of the guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions pages before doing anything here. And during my first week, whenever I will make a new discussin or upload pictures, I will read the guidelines and FAQ first and see if I will break some rules.
So far, I don't have any discussions that have been deleted yet. But some of my responses or comments were deleted because the discussions that I joined were deleted.

I see. It happened to everybody to have responses deleted, because many times we don't even imagine that discussion will be deleted.
