When I was 4 years old, I was a very naughty kid. I don't write or even participate in the classroom chorus reading...hehehe But thanks to my mother because she is the first person to influence me to love reading. The second person was myself. In reading, I feel like I'm traveling different worlds from different stories, novel, and etc. How about you?

My mother also inspired me to become a reader. My earliest childhood memories are of my mother reading to me. Our home was full of books and we were encouraged to read. Today, still, my favorite thing is sharing books with my mother and sister. It's one of the most wonderful gifts you can give a child and one I have hopefully passed on to my son! Books can take you anywhere in the world.

agree. Books can take you anywhere in the world. that's why in the earlier period of my life, when I had just been able to read, I could never be distracted to read almost any books because it never failed to excite me.

Halo! I have not been influenced to become a reader. In school, we have been inculcated to read to learn the lessons that we need to learn. As I grew I got so interested in learning a lot of things and thought that I should be learning more than whatever is taught in school. It is good to have people to influence you in doing this very valuable habit. But the best influence should come from ourselves. Indeed when we read we feel like traveling in different worlds. I have memorized a poem entitled "Travel Through Books" when I was in grade 4 and now I have my 4 years old memorize it. It starts with... "around the world you can just go..." and ends with ..."The world you see has many nooks, If you will love and read more books." Keep it up.

The beautiful pictures and drawings on story books influenced me to read.
I love reading books with pretty illustration and that inspires me to read more.
Since then, I always asks my grandmom to buy story books with good pictures.
I can still remember I am 4 yrs old when I started reading story books.
Have a good day

When I was a kid, I simply hated reading! You couldn't never force me to start or finish a book, if I was forced to read like at school, I simply skimmed the words and then finish a novel in like 5 minutes I just found reading so boring and I never enjoyed it. It wasn't until high school that I had to not only read books but study them as well. That's when I realized how bad my literacy skills were and I started motivating myself to read and try and get into the book. I only enjoyed reading when I read a good book with a good plot, so I try to pick out the good books to read. Now I read online almost everyday for just a bit even because reading really does improve your vocabulary and my English skills. So I guess my teacher motivated me to read.

when i was young i dont really like reading because all the books surround me are boring and doesn't really catch my interest, but then when i entered my teenage years i'm introduced by my friends to books, or specifically, novels. I love reading fiction books, romance, and most of all greek gods and goddesses. Now im really addicted to books, i buy every novel series that catch my attention, one of my favorite authors is Rick Riordan who wrote the percy jackson and the olympians series.

when i was little, i actually taught myself how to read (i mean, of course with help of others). i sat down one day and started out loud reading and my mom freaked out and was all, "who taught you how to read!?" haha
in school we had to read for points for part of our grade. i always read the most difficult books to try and challenge myself.

I suppose it was school,as I can't actually remeber reading before then. I know I did as I have baby books pre five but don't actually remeber reading any of them or even being read to by my parents.
I love books and am always reading. I aim to read at least 52 books each year.
My children don't read as much as I did when I was a child, I have always read to all four of my children and evn now at the ages of 14 and 12 I do still read to them but not very often

My mother took me to the library when I was very young and I loved the time we spent there. At that time I wasn't able to read, but I loved picking out the picture books that I wanted my parents to read aloud to me. I was excited to see all the different books and I always wanted to borrow a lot of books. My mother just laughed and said: "Relax we are going to return another day, and then you will be able to pick out more books" I think that those visits to the library were one of the reasons why I started reading a lot. I was excited when I was able to read my own books for first time and today I still use the library a lot.

My mother was the one who got me hooked to reading at an early age. When I was a little child, she would read me stories from books. Then she bought me my first book when I was in grade school. She told me to give it a try to see if I'd like it. After that, I got hooked. Whenever I wanted to buy a new book, she'd let me. She allowed me to buy a new book once every two weeks.

No one influenced me to read because I became an avid reader on my own . However when I was a toddler, my parents subscribed a colorful children magazine for me. It enticed me to read and my mother used to read me to sleep. Then as soon as I could read, I read everything and here I am

When I was a kid, I was encouraged to read those world-famous books such as how the steel was was tempered. I found that sort of book a wee bit of boring. that was why I am not a reading lovers before my junior high school. Luckly, when i became older, the PC and internet enmerged, it was the first time that I feel happy with reading. So thanks to the net, it provided me a totally ineteresting and world of reading.

hmmm
maybe it;s not directly influenced. when I was a kid before I cant read anything, my father used to tell me stories. like fairytale, folklore, sometimes myths and legends, but not rare he (I realized it when I grew older) made it up. my father and mother are teachers. my mother taught me to read so hmmm, let;s say I could read just before I started my school.
so what;s the red thread? well, my father liked to tell my brothers and I stories in the night after we had dinner, and almost every time he told me the stories in such a way we never got bored. every stories had an end. when we were smaller, younger, my father always told us to the very end. but when we grew a bit older, he liked to paused and said "let;s continue it tomorrow" it got me really irritated.
then one day I noticed a folklore book and I found it had the same story at least the big picture were the same. so I started to read books. just because my father ignited my curiosity.

Folklore is always really interesting! I like to read about it, but I think reading actually takes away from folklore as most of it was originally passed down orally. I'm really jealous that you had relatives tell you stories instead of reading them to you!

yes. agree folklore is always really interesting. and it started from. my father is a very good story teller. he's not only able to attract crowd to him, but also able to maintain the crowd.he did a lot sound effect when he told story. well, to be honest, some of his stories are repetitious, but he always successfully make our I attention drawn to him. so no wonder I got always curious.

I was more into playing as a kid and not studious at all but as a family we were readers. Mum would give us books for Christmas and we got comics to pass the time when we went for a train trip.
I read to my kids...even though my Mum didn't read to me and both my girls love to read. I see pictures in my head as I'm reading and I believe that's what denotes a good writer...they can draw pictures for us with their words.

My parents were always encouraging my sister and I to read. However, with me, I did have an easy time reading, because it was just something that I always enjoyed doing. So I don't remember my parents ever having to do much encouraging, as it was something that I just naturally did on my own. It's something that I enjoy doing. I've always enjoyed reading a good book.

My parents read to me all the time when I was a kid and then when I was 3 my dad decided that if I couldn't read and write when I went into Kindergarten, that I would be behind all of the other students so he taught me. I never really stopped at "children's" books... I started with the picture books that just used illustrations to tell the story (before I could read) and then, within probably months, started reading chapter books.

My parents are both immigrants from Taiwan, and my mom is dyslexic. She always had trouble reading English in school and even after she studied college in the U.S. she still had a lot of trouble, and it was hard for her to enjoy it. So, when I was born, she almost immediately got me started reading. I still remember the reading comprehension kits she bought me! I love reading for much the same reason you do - it's amazing being able to visit different worlds and see different lives. I also like reading for it's educational value. I don't just mean non-fiction (I do like to read science, history, and biographies too), but also just the portrayal of relationships and how different people live their lives. I think books have a lot to teach us about how to live.

My cousin influenced me to become a reader. I remember when we were little, my cousin had this big bookshelf filled with books and she let me borrow from time to time. My very first favorite book is the Sweet Valley High editions. I am Elizabeth of the Wakefield twins :D
