I read somewhere that the govt has launched aakash tablet for a very cheap price for students and it says it is also helps technology to reach the hands of poor.Yes poor people can buy a tablet pc for 2000rs BUT I wonder how many poor people in india could actually afford to pay for internet every month? What is the use of a computer if there is no internet! So i think they should have started internet cafe's targetting the people of below poverty line at a very cheap rate like 5rs per hour etc. Or the govt owned BSNL should provide internet connection for like 50rs per month. I doubt if launching aakash will cause such an impact caused by mobile phones because you dont have to pay anything if you use your phone just to receive incoming calls and give missed calls like many people do.

Providing internet service at cheaper rate is fine. But government is already overloaded with more work. It is better left to private entrepreneurs in my view.

private entrepreneurs need only one thing, money. They dont care about the poor unless they are someone like ratan tata.

I doubt if they would provide free internet.May be they might provide it for students at a very cheap rate. What about other target customers, that is the poor people?
