How crimes happened near you affect your life

A third year college student in my school was raped, robbed and murdered just this week by two men, one was a bank security guard and one was a tricycle driver. The incident happened at 2AM in the morning. The girl was walking home to her dorm (near the school but outside the school grounds) apparently from a school-related group activity and these two men spotted her, grabbed her, pointed a gun at her and took her by the tricycle. After she was murdered, her body was thrown away in a far away, secluded place beyond the school. Good thing there was a witness who immediately went to the police which led to the arresting of the two men.
The abduction happened in a place where I frequently pass by when I go home walking from school. It gave me the chill when I heard the news and I told myself I will not pass by that place again alone at night. I sometimes go home at 7PM and I walk alone and when I pass by that dark place at that time, there would only be a very few people around although vehicles pass by since it is just beside the road.
I realized that our town is no longer the peaceful town like it used to be when I was younger. It's a little sad when I think about it because instead of a town giving you security and comfort, it becomes a town that scares you. But all the people can do is to be extra careful and avoid going home alone in the dead night or early dawn.
I pity the family of the girl and when I see news like this, I always wish that the death penalty will be brought back in our justice system.

I've watched that news last night. Its really terrible.
Its shocking,my sister knew that girl because she was her teacher's daughter (back in college). Its nice to hear last night that the suspect where caught. Thanks to the grandfather of the suspect.Justice prevail. But its quite scary to be alone especially to some places you don't usually go and familiarize with.
Be careful and alert .
Always be safe.

I learned that through news my friend and it so sad a very good looking and nice young lady had been raped and killed by these criminals. You are from there, so you better careful, anyway, whenever we are we have to be careful, there are no safe place, even at home, there are series of massacre lately. This place we are living is not safe anymore, there are accidents, even nature kills people. It really affects our life because we get scared, we do not want that to happen to us, to our dear ones. We have to be very careful, that even we take a lot of care we still meet accidents because some other people are not being careful. Crimes like that keeps us for being vigilant, to watch out every people, stranger or not to avoid to be a victim of crimes. It affects our normal life and it is normal that is affects us because we never thought that crimes can happen to anyone of us.

Crime can really happen to anyone. I remember the attempted hold-upping case in a bus that travels from here to Manila. Whenever I ride the bus, I think of the possibility that it might happen again and I would be in the bus. I just relax and calm myself.

A few years ago a man killed his wife just up the street from me....it was horrific! To this day I don't drive by the house. I don't even know what happened to it....if it's empty or what. I just can't go past there anymore. He is in prision for the rest of his life but that won't bring her back or the peace to our neighborhood!

Yeah, when a crime happens, the whole neighborhood is disturbed. It can even cause panic if the killer is a serial killer.

This is really sad and scary.
You are right, be careful and if possible avoid walking alone at night.
I am living here in the city, where lots of people are not sleeping at night time.
but still, being careful is the best weapon.
Never trust anyone, esp when you are alone.
Be safe always.
have a great weekend

I agree. Being careful is the best weapon. Safety first before anything else.

While nothing that violent has happened in my area, but there have been a string of attempted abductions of children in my area. None in my town directly, but I have reminded my students of safety in numbers, try not to walk home alone. Take the well traveled path and not to get in the car with someone you know.

Kidnapping is rampant here in our country, too. Sometimes I think that every children should be taught of self-defense.

i understand what you feel secret bear. when a crime happens in our place, everybody is alarmed and will be extra cautious already and the atmosphere of being safe disappears. i also saw the news on tv and i feel pity towards the father who was crying very hard. the future of that girl disappeared just because of those super bad guys. i wish they will have a heavy consequence of what they did.

I saw the father on tv, too. I cannot imagine how the family was feeling. It's good that justice is already at their hand. But to have lost someone at a very young age, it's really terrible.

Really? That's really sad and also dangerous for u, secret. U ought to be careful and i guess it's time for u to ride more often to school. U can't trust public transports as well because i read on the news, even vans used to ferry passengers to city, are not safe due to molest and rape IF possible, u should use your own transport, ensure your own safety. The world is changing and people are more daring or should i say desperate?

it is so sad and scary that crimes like that could happen just anywhere, even in the places we least expect it to happen. like you, i will also feel worried and scared if crime like that will happen in the place where i usually go. good thing that the two criminals were abducted. you should really take good care of yourself, never go home late at night without a companion. we should never feel so safety even in our own town, we must leave that doubt for us to be more careful.
happy mylotting!

i was crying loads of tears while i watch this on tv. it pained me to see a promising girl snatched from her family and from a supposedly promising life.
how i wish that the parents and relatives can have the chance to give at least a punch on the face of these criminals!

It's really such a waste. Her future was already ahead of her.
I think one or two of the relatives, not sure if the father was one of them, had the chance to land a punch to the tricycle driver. The police immediately stopped them. If I was there with the authority, I would have allowed the family to beat the criminals. ^^
