I have suffered from insomnia for years and despite a wide range of medication I am still unable to sleep enough to feel rested. I eat well and exercise daily but this has not improved my insomnia. The lack of sleep has begun to have a negative impact on my work and social life. It is impossible to nap at work and my productivity has been reduced due to my exhaustion. Is there a way to balance my life while dealing with lack of sleep?

I used to believe you could till I suffered from it myself. I used to think that you could overcome insomnia just by working hard and getting exhausted or burning up all your energy. But a few years ago I suffered through a serious health illness and had sleepless nights. The harder I tried to sleep the worse it'd become and I'd end up getting irritated the whole of the next day. So no you pretty much cannot overcome it just by 'trying' and need to consult a good docif the medications you are taking are not helping. Hope you overcome it.

hi starr79, i have suffered from insomnia from time to time. i don't take any pills to overcome it because i know the reason, it's the working pressure. i used to keep working after work until go to sleep, so every night i got bad dreams which almost all about the project that i was working for. i felt exhausted during the day all the time. then i start to change, before go to sleep i will listen to some romantic country music, it makes me feel relaxed. i tell myself not to think about anything about work but just enjoy the music. it's good for me and i can sleep very well during most of the nights. i hope you can find the reason and deal with it. God bless you!

I have made several blogs as write ups for some of my employers so somehow I am familiar about your problem. There are many ways to fight your insomnia but if it has anything to do with your psychological problem then the natural way to cure them might help but the best way is to seek professional help. The net is filled with ways on how to help yourself sleep better.

I know of a Chinese physician who can treat insomnia. Hv u tried drinking coffee to keep u alert at work? For me, it helps. It also helps prevent me fm being unproductive at work. Or maybe u cld take a nap during ur lunch break? I hv read it's gd for productivity.

So sad that you have a lot of sleepless nights. What does the doctor have told you about the condition? DO you have any problem of illness? I hope not. Find a best doctor that can help you out from having Insomnia. Have time to engage in meditation and natural way of combating your condition. Over used of medication can also harm your liver function. I hope that you have some friends to help and guide you. Take care and be happy.

You can certainly overcome insomnia, but it is important for you to realise just what causes it for you. If you are worrying about things, then you should think about what you could do to change that situation. Otherwise, you could go to the doctors and they might be able to give you some pills to help you to go to sleep at the right time. You should make sure that you're relaxing before you go to bed, and don't use your laptop or mobile phone for at least an hour before you go to bed, as this means that your mind has the chance to switch off from everything that it's been worrying about during the course of the day.

There are a lot of discussions about insomnia on mylot. I have ben an insomniac since 1975 and have suffered terribly with it. And still do, I have never been able to overcome the problem. My life has been very affected by my insomnia. I have been diagnosed with Primary Insomnia I which is a neurological problem. The first thing that you need to do is to see your Primary Care Physician and begin to determine the roots of your insomnia. Then, find out what treatments might be available. You might also want to see a Sleep Disorders Specialist. I have had to adjust my entire life to cope with my insomnia. I hope that you do not have to do the same.

Hi starr, Seems you have a chronic issue there. In the cause & effect equation, as we all understand very easily, insomnia is an effect and not a cause. The reason I try to bring in this dimension is that there must be something in your own control that you can do to overcome the problem and start leading a healthy & balanced life. Medication is hardly a solution, but you can't be faulted if you did not have an alternative yet wanting relief. It is a natural & normal metabolic function of any human body to demand sleep. Enhanced negative mind & brain activity could be primary reasons ruining this normal phenomenon. In my view, you need practices in harmonized breathing and relaxation as often as you can. I write about such issues on my blog. In fact the current article is on right breathing for relaxation & health. I welcome you to follow this link to read: http://www.evolve-forever.com/2011/10/11/breathe-right-until-breath-lasts. Once there you will find links to other useful articles as well. Hope you will benefit.
