Do we all carry a cross?

I am sure that everybody has heard about this expression, that everybody has to carry his cross. I don't really know what to think about this, because this sounds a bit of a predestination and I believe in free will, although there are some happenings in everybody's life which seem unavoidable.
What is your view on this? Do you believe that there are things which MUST happen and we cannot avoid them?

I think you are right, we have to carry our crosses, and try to make the most out of every situation. This crosses are given by God to test our will, our belief and our faith in Him, so we have to challenge them and try to overcome them. Great response.

Thank you,it is frrom God all testing .Sometimes it is from mens faults and they will face the consequences, and other is from God that man can't do it..
But we can over come those because it is a life ingredient and also without it our life will not be beautiful..
So it is great to face those challenges even it is hard to accept but we should..

The expression comes from this Scripture:
Matthew 16:24 Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA) 24Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
A close examination of the verse in context implies that being a true follower of Jesus Christ would bring some persecution that a Christian would have to bear. The world hated Jesus and his followers would have to bear the same treatment.

Sadly the world is becoming more and more anti-God, either by their words or by their actions. But our faith will conquer the world and soon it will be replaced by a new world. A world where love and love of God will be all around us.

This is how I understood this verse also. I know how Jesus and early Christians were treated and I think we get back to this type of life again, where Christians are mocked because of their belief. Many youngsters question the existence of a superior entity, and they say that they are atheists. That should be okay, but they also feel it "cool" to mock others who believe in God.

Let it be like you say. I just don't understand why people become like this.

I think you don't really need to carry a cross but I do know many people will have a special thing that they will keep with them that gives them comfort, for some it may be a cross for others it may be a special coin or shell. It could be just about anything. But there are definitely things that happen in our lives you can't avoid, things can be unexpected and we can't always change the outcome.

Yes, you are true, there are things which just have to happen, although we have free will. The problem is given by God and we have the free will to decide whether we want to solve them or not and how we want to resolve it. I guess this is how we can explain this carrying a cross expression, which I think is from the Bible.

Trials and problems are considered as cross that we are carrying.
Not necessary to carry but to suffer and endure.
It is not intend to destroy us,but to build us stronger and a better person.
Life is a challenge as they say and trials are spices to break the monotony of it.
have a good day

So you think that God gives this test to us to challenge us, but the test are only as difficult as we can carry, so that we don't break down? I also think the same way, and I am convinced that if we trust God and ask for His help, He will guide us to the solution, but He won't solve the problems in our place.

Yes, many things in life are unavoidable and it's caused by many circumstances. We have to have some wrongs in life to know what's right. It depends on the way we are taught as well, because if we are taught wrongly, those information becomes right in our eyes till we got caught and be punished for them. Everybody has to carry their own cross and that's for sure. Nobody can be right all the time, because it takes a cross to start learning.

I agree with your explanation a lot, that we must carry our crosses and the way we solve them will teach us how to solve many other similar problems and every successful solution will make us stronger.

We all have our own crosses to carry individually. The question is, what do we do about it? I certainly believe in free will, it is up to us to decide what to do with our cross, God will not help unless you pray Him to, even though He can. Lately, my cross have become heavier by the day, I just can't accept reality as it is, its just not what I wanted for my life. I've also stopped praying, like I'm ashamed to approach Him, though I know He will listen.

You should never be ashamed to turn to God, because He is our Father who always has time for His children, I am sure of this.
You said it very well, God gives everybody a cross to carry, but He also gives the strength and the ability to carry it. The problem starts when people don't realize the strength they have and don't know how to use that strength nor when to ask God for enlightening. So never be ashamed or afraid to ask God for His help.

Yes, I fully agree with you, there are things which happen without our will, which we cannot avoid and have a great influence on our lives.

The cross is a frightening symbol used by the Christian religion to put the fear of the Lord into Christians to encourage them to tithe for the church.
In reality God loves His children absolutely, and a Loving God has no need to instil dread or apprehension in his followers.

Yes, the cross is a symbol and I believe that it can be replaced with the notion of a problem which cannot be avoided, like a sickness or a breakdown, which we need to solve and we have the free will to choose if and how we want to solve this problems.
God has always said that humans should fear Him, which means that they don't have to be afraid of Him, only if they break His rules.

actually this is a phrase from the bible spoken by the Lord Jesus to his disciples..which is pointing to the self denial and sacrifice every believer will experience as a follower of Jesus...well it has been used as an idiomatic expression today which is pointing to lifes problem and challenges people face each day...i dont believe in personal pre destination or like something we can't avoid to happen in our life, if we are talking of the things we can do and change...we all create our own realities...

We all certainly can carry loads in life. I think the term is simply that as all people are not necessarily religious and use the term. I remember my past Jewish boss who use to say his life was like carrying a cross. So really it is just depicting that one has lots of burdens in life.
Speaking for myself of course, I feel that my destiny is already marked, I think I can improve, enhance and or modify but somehow feel it is a pattern for my life.

So you think that your boundaries are given and you are the one who decide how you want to live in that life. I believe that we are given many options in our lives, we are the ones who decide which path to walk on, how to walk on, but things like our main characteristics and temper are given, they cannot be changed.
And of course, there are many happenings during our lives which just have to happen, which are given by God to test us.

I think having a cross to carry just means having problems and challenges in life. Everyone has them and will have them. Whether that's predestination or not is a mystery to me. I was taught God knows everything that will happen and at the same time we have free will. So this means God knows everything we will choose to do...it's hard to sort out so I just accept God loves me and will guide me and maybe someday I will understand what life is all about.

I understand this expression as a burden which we must carry, which we cannot rid of it, which is beyond our will. Many people say that a tough sickness or illness can be considered a cross we must carry and we must learn how to live with that cross.
I am also Christian and I truly believe in God, but I think the story of Noah is a good example that there are things which cannot be avoided, still people have the free will to react how they want.

:-) My father always share to us that his cross is my brother who has special health condition. I agree with the thing that we have our own cross to carry. At the moment, I cannot say that I have a cross being carried, I always make sure to be happy at all times and neglect all stressful events. I am thankful with it. People say that God have a blueprint or a plan a head of us, even before we were given birth. We may not avoid it but we can make the most out of it.

I am sorry to hear this about your brother, I am sure it is very difficult for the whole family, but this certainly can be called as a cross which has to be carried.
Although you feel happy, I am sure that even you have some problems or you will have some, which you will have to face eventually.
About that plan, I consider that God gives us many alternatives and according to what we choose with our free will, that plan will change accordingly.
I have always said that if we just have to fulfill something which we cannot control, we cannot be punished nor rewarded.

I agree its difficult to decide in a situation you encounter it especially when that situation is not expected.I would prefer for prayers that could gave you enlightenment so that when you decide its not too difficult to to handle with. Its better also that you can ask any advises to the person whom can be trusted they can gave you a better view for the decision.

Yes, prayers are always helpful, because if we truly believe in God and if we ask Him from all our heart, He will listen to our prayers. But He won't do things in our place, He will just give the direction and the power, but He won't decide for us. At least this is what I believe.
