There's nothing like a good Stew, Chowder, or Chilli when the weather starts to become chilly. It's convenient to go to the store, grab a nice cup of that warm hearty sustenance when you're out and about in the cool air, or at home when you want something that you don't have to grab a fork or knife for. And if you got a microwavable soup cups, you may not even need a spoon. But enough about the convenience, what flavor of stews, chowders and or chillis do you favor? Do you have a restaurant that makes your favorite? Have you tried any new flavors or have you made some recently and like to talk about it? I love all three and I'm picky about all three as well. When it comes to stew, I love my boyfriend's steak stew. It's hearty, lots of vegetables, with a nice kick that keeps it interesting. When it comes to chowders, the chowder I love the most is from a restaurant called Sinbad way in Michigan. Last time I had their chowder, which was some years ago, I couldn't forget the nice creamy flavor that made me mad I haven't found a place in my new state of residence that makes it just as good. There were plenty of tasty clam chowders, but nothing like Sinbad's. I've tried making seafood chowder two years ago, but I will admit that didn't come out as well as I had hoped. But the bacon and corn chowder I made was tasty. Then Chillis, I love my grandmother's chilli which had a few chilli peppers and other ingredients that are secret.

I love a hearty soup in ghe cold months, but love to cook and making those dishes at home mean spending half the price to get usually twice as much quality. I live on a budget and for me a stew is buying all sorts of fresh produce (no cans)at the super, including a good piece of meat that´s in an offer. At home I cut up the meat that suits a stew, grind the meat for a chilli and save any other part for broths. I can cook all those dishes at the same time, throw in leeks that I love at stews and put on more hot pepper in my chilli. My chilli, of course, starts by soaking beans. No cans again, but a good pressure cooker. And all that, and so many other nice additions from my veggie garden, make those thich soups (really a main dish) the best. I add my own bunch onions and chives just before eating so they are raw and have all their flavour. With chilli, I add "merken" kind of dry hot chilli that is made in our country by powdering it on stones.YUMMY!!!

It's still warm here for the time being, but it should get cold before December hits. It's usually sweater weather here in December in the day and cold at night... I will be making a chili before it gets very cold.

I personally really like stews during the cold months. I am a fan of soup as well. I had four teeth pulled this past week and so I have ate a lot of soup these days. My favorite soup is potato soup and my favorite stew is beef stew. I like to make mine in my crockpot even when it is really cold outside. I never eat any of these when I go to a restaurant.

Welcome to mylot BabyFund. I like chili. I like my own chili, but I do also enjoy Wendy's chili also. Chili is so versatile, because you can put it as a topping on potatoes and hot dogs too. I like clam chowder made with a tomato base. I also like salmon chowder made with a cream base. I don't make the chowders much because I'm the only one to eat them. I guess I could make it and freeze it in single serving containers. My whole family loves my chili and they ask for it every now and then.
