I just upgraded my Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 and its been satisfactory. One thing they got right was Unity. I didn't like 11.04 Unity at all, that's why I revert to Classic Mode. But since 11.10 doesn't have one (only Ubuntu 2D), I have to accept the reality. But to my surprise, they change how Unity now behaves. It now automatically hides itself once you open up a window, saving screen real state. If you need to access it, just hover to the left edge of your screen and it will pop-out. There are lots of new feature in this version of Ubuntu, but one thing I greatly notice about it. This version has been Ssslllooowww. I don't know, maybe because my system is dual-boot or maybe this was still in beta (i guess?). But I have lots of bad hang-ups and slow-response experience with this version. How 'bout you, what are your experiences with the new Ubuntu 11.10?

I have not yet tried this one, but I will do it soon. I am surprised to read that this version of Ubuntu is slow ; if it is true Ubuntu would have lost one of its main advantage. A few years ago I had a bad crash with Ubuntu, and it is why I have looked for another Linux. I have Gentoo installed since more than 2 years on my computer, and I am very satisfied with it, but I am curious, I like to try new versions of Linux, and I have never missed an Ubuntu release.

Maybe its just my system (I'm running it on a 3 year old laptop). I have Windows XP SP3 installed on the same system but it is quite snappy. But Ubuntu 11.10 lags quite a bit, which is really surprising. Ubuntu 10.10 was far more snappy. Opening an application takes about 5 seconds, which I don't normally experience on my Windows installation. Maybe because of Unity. I don't know. I really do hope Canonical will do something about this.

Have one ubuntu 10.04 in my hard drive and one ubuntu 11.04 in vitrualbox, comfort with the classic gnome interface, but kind of like the unity of 11.04, so, very looking forward for the new unity in ubuntu 11.10.

Is that the only change they did for the new version? I've been wanting to use Ubuntu 11.04, but now there's a new one!
