The most famous author from Denmark is Hans Christian Andersen who lived from 1805 to 1875. He moved to Copenhagen because he wanted to become a famous actor, but he didn't have any success, and he became famous for his faitytales instead. I grew up in the city where Hans Christian Andersen was born, and I visited his museums when I was a child. At school we learned about his life and his fairytales. When I was a child I liked his fairytales simply because they were entertaining stories, and one of my favourite fairytales was "Little Claus and big Claus". As an adult I understand the deeper meaning of the fairytales that I missed when I was a child.
What are names of the famous authors from your country? What kind of books have they written and have you have read any of their books? Did you enjoy their books? Why/why not?

I have heard a little bit about Jose Rizal. I think that someone mentioned his name in the another discussion some time ago. At school we have never really learned much about the history or the literature in Asia, we usually focus on European literature or European history.

A famous author in America is Stephen King and no I don't read his work for a couple reasons. 1. His genre is not my genre, and 2. He believes in allowing foul language in his work because that is how people talk. Well, sure I'll let one or two loose, if I am over the wall angry, but not in everyday living, so I don't read his books, except for one, which I have to read. That is because my textbook for Creative Writing class was written by King and though I skim over the colorful metaphors, I am learning a lot about writing a novel, so I am enjoying that part..:)

Stephen King is a very popular author in my country. At the libraries it is difficult to find his books because they are so popular. He is not one of my favourite authors, but I have read a couple of his books. I was a little disappointed in the his last collection of short stories, I didn't find it very interesting and scary. The language in his books is one thing that I haven't thought about. I don't find it especially bad, but that might have something to do with the fact that the Danish authors often write that way, and I am more or less used to it.

I am from the UK and I think that the most famous author is probably Charles Dickens. JK Rowling also came from my country, and I think that she is the most popular author at the moment with the younger people of the country. I have always admired people who are able to write books like they have, and manage to stick with it for the whole of the journey, as I just don't think that I would ever be able to stay on task or be creative enough to be able to write a full novel and see it all the way through to publishing.

I am going to visit the UK in 2013 and I have started reading about some of the places that I would like to visit. Online I read about a place called Dickensworld. Do you know that place? I haven't read many of his books, but I know the names of the most famous ones.
Yes, JK Rowling has become very popular. I am reading the first book about Harry Potter at the moment, and I am curious to know what made the author so successful. I have written some short stories and some poems, but I have never written a novel. I would like to write a novel one day, it is a long process from the start to time when the novel gets published, but it could be an interesting challenge.
