I, as, I am sure, any person who has ever open an account of e-mail, and has a profile in any page of the internet, get lost of messages from scammers. I get many of this annoying messages everyday, from the girl who saw my profile and get desperately in love with me, (yeah, right), from the other person who sells his/hers home-made viagra, (wich, modesty apart, I don´t need), and every thing you can imagine in between, and I have noticed that most of them, uses a yahoo mail account, and I wonder why, is just as easy to open one in gmail, hotmail, or any other one, so, why yahoo, I don´t understand, I have a yahoo account myself, but I am getting so suspicious about it that I doubt even when I receive mail from a real remitent, from this company. Does anyone knows why they choose yahoo, most of the time?

Most of those scam emails, the ones about how they inherited money, etc...and only need you to help them get it and you can keep some of it in return...are called Nigerian 419 scams. They come out of Nigeria and Ghana. Look it up in your favorite search engine. It's very interesting information, and very sad that people get caught up in believing the emails as well as other types of scams they are pulling online.

Thank you for your comment, I wouldn´t go that far as saying that yahoo and the scammers are associated, frankly, I don´t think so, but I believe that yahoo should increase his security regulations, like making a bit harder to open an account, specially from the same IP address or the same person.

It's very annoying to be honest, so I can understand your aggravation. Another aggravation concerning it is when you actually recognize the email address and it comes in spam. Many times, my friends have gotten spam from me, even though I never sent them. I remedied this though by deleting my address book. I've never heard another person complain about getting spam from me since then. But I receive spam from friends and relatives, even though I know it's not from them. If this ever happens to you, let your contacts know, save them on a separate place, like your hard drive or a disk, and delete your contacts from your address book.
I'm still currently waiting for Yahoo to come up with a better filter to catch all spam. But until that happens, all we can do is report it and delete it from in-boxes.

It happens to me from time to time, specially, I get invitations from social networks, where, supposedly, a friend of mine is giving me the invitation, something I know it´s not true. It´s a good idea your advise, I will delete my address book as well, yet, I don´t see yahoo improving its spam filter in a short time, thank you for your comment.

When your friends are getting spam emails from your email account, it is a sign that your account has been hijacked. Remedy this by changing your passwords frequently and making the passwords difficult to copy. I change mine anywhere from once a month to once every three months. Use mix of lower case and capital letters with at least one number included. I know it is a pain to have to keep changing passwords but it is one of the necessities of using the internet these days. This includes passwords on social network sites as well. Sometimes these accounts get hijacked so badly that you have to use your security questions and maybe even your phone number to get control of your account back. This is why the email companies ask for that phone number.
Scammers and spammers use Yahoo more than the others I think because they also use the Yahoo Messenger for their spam and scam messages. It makes it easier for them to use both that way.

I think that the Yahoo filter for spam is really bad and that it doesn't really filter your emails like Hotmail and Yahoo.

I guess the reason is that it's always easier to create a new email account in yahoo... sometimes gmail gives errors and stuff. well then i am not actually sure. maybe they got to use to it and because most people from all countries uses yahoo as email instead of hotmail or gmail (well a lot is using gmail these days)...
You just reminded me of the girl from Senegal who sent a friendster (when it is popular then) message to my boyfriend. I was the one who exchange emails from her pretending to be dumb about it. I reported that email account, though I know she can still create another one.

I was opened a fake account, to re-send this type of mail, I opened with false data, and never opened in my personal computer, it was kind of funny for a while, specially those messages where the girl, tells me that she is the next of kin of some african general or minister, and she has some millions of dollars in some account, and all she needs is my account Nº to make the deposit, but I get bored after a while. I think that yahoo should improve it´s spam filters, or doing a bit harder to open an account.
