Many, including me,waste food when many die because of hunger.

Here in Manila, food is abundant.I can buy almost any food I want and eat as much as I can in a day.I admit there are times when I have many leftovers.Usually I just throw them away or feed them to the chickens or dogs.
Last night I watched a documentary about people starving to death, and I felt sad. Most of those live in isolated rural areas so they cannot have enough food.I realized that I waste too much food when there are people who almost eat none.I am now trying to eat all the food I prepared, and I only prepare foods that I really want so I can eat them all.I don't want to waste food anymore.

Bobmnu you're right, you wasting your food do not cause someone else to go hungry. But when you see these people who are willing to eat anything, even foods from wastecans thrown by fastfoods or whatever just to survive, you will learn to appreciate more the importance of food to us. You will learn to appreciate more the things you have and not dwell on the things you don't have. You will appreciate how lucky you are that you are eating at least three times a day, you have a comfortable life and you do not have to worry on a day to day basis the food you will eat or the place you will sleep.

Yes,we wouldn't fill the stomach of those starving people by just not wasting food. But I cannot think about throwing away foods when other people would eat anything just to survive.I feel guilty whenever I waste food.

I strongly agree with you. all family should buy their needs only from food and any other things. By this method we save our budget and do not throw out any leftovers. when we think carefully for those people in manila and other poor countries whom have food shortage, we can get them help as a money saved from controlling our budget.

Well, i keep leftover foods in freezer and also i have various containers to keep food longer which i don throw.Even unfinish soup will be keep for later to eat and such.I prepare or buy alot sometime, but i tend to keep they if unfinished. If not it goes to the dog.So not much unfinished food are throw.Yes, people tend to waste food.It a bad habit.

I'm from the Philippines, too, and was able to watch some documentaries about hunger. It really sadden me that some people are experiencing extreme conditions like that in Africa. Little kids die in dehydration and hunger as well as the adults. Some of us worry much about getting on the latest trend of clothes, shoes and stuff. But other people worry about the simplest and the most basic of needs. More than us realizing about this problem, we can try doing some actions, too. Donating to charity foundations that will help feed these people is a good step.

You will surely don't want to watch the pagpag in youtube.
Of, wanna try, check it from youtube and you will surely cry upon watching it.
I just can't imagine how many people are there hungry while other people just wasted some foods and never care to share a little to any hungry one along the streets.
So sad...

People and things around us are blessings in many forms. Good thing that you watched that documentary.
That what they said that too much is not good..Like too much food and we can't it all. I agree with you, we should cook/prepare food that is good enough for a day and will not go wasted. I don't usually waste food because I know that my husband works for it and it is a blessings from God...
God bless.

Yes, my friend. the least we could do to commiserate with them is try to put in our plates portions that we could eat completely , without leftovers. But then, if we have a dog or a cat to feed we can give them some of our leftovers. That way, we will not feel guilty of others not having something to eat.

hi thanks ferbjohn69 for starting a useful discussion.i think it will make some of mylotters to realize about wasting of food.now in every part of the world thousands of people are dying of food crises.some of them are not able to buy, because of raising prices.some people are struggling for food and they are eating even cats, dogs and fallen birds.each and every one self motivate themselves of not wasting food for others hungry.even i also realized with your discussion.

Now, you can't really get mad at yourself about your wasted food. Though you could give it to somebody local to possibly save their life, you couldn't exactly ship out your leftovers overseas to other countries where starvation is more common. By the time the food were to get there, it would be so spoiled that it would kill the people off faster than letting them starve. Then again, it wouldn't hurt to eat less food and invest the extra money saved in sending food out, so long as you made sure the food would still be good by the time it gets to the people. But when it comes to leftovers, most of the time they go bad within hours, leaving nowheres near enough time to actually send it out.
