Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are low in energy and packed with vitamins, minerals, protective plant compounds and fibre, so they're a great source of nutrients and vital for a healthy diet. Due to their nutritional and health benefits, it's recommended that fruit and vegetables form the basis of your diet, with a minimum intake of five portions each day - about a third of your daily food consumption. Currently the UK averages two to three portions a day, so we're falling well short of the benefits they can provide. Fruit and vegetables should be incorporated into every meal, as well as being the first choice for a snack. Population studies have shown that people who eat a lot of fruit and vegetables may have a lower risk of chronic disease, such as heart disease and some cancers. Health benefits can be gained from fresh, canned (in natural juice), frozen, cooked, juiced or dried versions. Potatoes don't count though, as they're a starchy food.

Better to have fresh vegetables and fruits and not those canned ones. The enzymes cannot survive for longer period,so, if you buy canned fruits and veggies..it's not fresh at all and not more enzymes that helps the digestive system. Have a good day

i agree jaiho. Besides canned fruits is by itself processed and it's said that processed foods are bad for our kidneys. My father when he was treated by an alternative doctor for his prostate cancer, was prohibited to eat canned foods. It is said to be a contributor to cancer. Maybe it's because of the preservative and the processing done.

Sadly when we go shopping we always attepmt to by minut food, or food that are not healthy food, I buy carrots, apples, bananas, peppers, but at the time to eat I feel like eating another thing but carrot. Another thing is the prizes some days ago I attempted to buy a papaya but it was four dollars so I couldn't.

I would not say that I am a vegetarian, but I certainly prefer eating veggies to meat. I believe in the health values of vegetables. I drink fruit juices in the morning at breakfast time. When I go to restaurants which serve buffets, my plate will always be more than half-full with veggies.

I love fruits and veggies so I don´t have to eat them because they are healthy, but because I love them. In my country we have good and fairly unexpensive fruit throughout the year so most of our desserts are just raw fruit. Only when there´s company we are a little more elaborate with desserts. Salads (raw and steamed) and stir fries are good ways to eat veggies with all their vitamins.
