There is a famous saying " Faith moves mountains'....what do you think of that? Is it enough to keep faith in God and sit back and let things take their course? It can be faith in something else too like for example ,in people or a firm belief in oneself . I feel that having faith is fine but ,we need to do something from our side too, just waiting for God or our religious beliefs to fulfill our wishes is not really practical. Most peope have a way of putting all their belief into God and expect the almighty to come up with solutions for all their problems in life . When things fail, they feel that they have not prayed enough. But at the same time having faith in oneself and doing one's best can definitely help us . What do you all think about this friends ?

Hello, it is right faith moves mountains. Faith on some one give us confidence and moral power. When I child is going with her/his parents, he/she have faith on their parents that they will help in problem. It will give them confidence. Beliefs and faith on God is not means that God will come to us to do our work. God help the peoples who held them self. God say do your duty.

Yes anil, that's what even I feel - that faith is actually focusing on something or someone and drawing strength from them.It makes us feel stronger like a child feeling secure in the arms of the mother .Even Lord Krishna speaks about the importance of duty and responsibility of an individual in Bhagavathgeeta...

Yes Anil, god too helps those who help themselves...It is very convenient for people to blame someone else for their own failures in life.If they did something constructive about it I am sure that things will change for the better...enjoy your Sunday

Yes Lord Krishna's say that you do your job and leave all other things for me. But how much person believe on it. Here I was meet some persons who are spending all the day by plying card and for their poor conditions they are blaming to God. God will never come to anyone to give money. God give us two hands and ten fingers to do the work. Use these.

Hi Kiran! You see faith alone can not move a mountain. You need to put some action. You need to perform with utmost dedication, devotion, sincerity and honesty to execute a task, else you won't succeed. It is said - "God helps those, who help themselves". Whatever I do, I do it with conviction and faith and many a times I succeed.

I see your point...faith in self & doing your best will take one far...my religion says to me the answers or solutions for my problems in life or in the Book & when I fail it is b/c I didn't follow one of the guidelines..

Hi kiran, I don't believe 'Faith moves mountains'. Devotion to God is good. But I don't think God helps the idle people. May be God like the worshipers. But definitely He(She) does not like the idle devotees. There is a saying "God helps those who help themselves" I believe this.

Faith doesn't move mountains. Real actions do. You can believe that you will have one day the power to, for example, create a big company, but just by thinking that you won't get a thing. You will reach your goal by studying, planning, investing, etc. It doesn't matter how much you believe you can do something if you're not really going to move a finger in order to get what you want.

Hi mtp, thanks a lot for your response I agree that faith alone doesnt move anything leave alone mountains but it does give us the courage and strength to work towards just about anything in life.I firmly believe that the most important thing in life is to have faith in oneself , and this helps us achieve things and also to face an adversity with courage..

i think it means that if we have faith in God nothing is impossible but we still have to do something for what we are asking to him. If God will not give what we are asking or what we wish to him he have a reason...

You would have heard of the story where a man is about to drown and he keeps praying in a damaged boat. A rescue boat comes nearby thrice and whenever there is a call he says GOd will come to his rescue and declines the help.THis happens thrice ; finally when he is about to drown, he invokes God and asks Him why he deserted him. God replies that He had come to his rescue but the man had declined the offer. God wants us to make all efforts , make use of all opportunities and then do our work wihout expectations. It is true that faith can move mountains but this does not mean that one can twiddle one's own thumbs expecting some fruit to fall into his mouth. I do believe in making efforts Kiran but I also believe that while it is my duty to make efforts it is for GOd to do the rest. I know He will give me whatever He thinks fit and whenever He thinks fit ; this thought always maintains my peace. If some of my efforts do not yield fruit despite doing them well, it means GOd has ordained it that way. We must never lose faith in ourselves too because GOd Himself wants us to make efforts and this is not possible without faith in oneself.

Hi kala, well said ! I too remembered that story which is so apt as an example ,for this discussion.Life is so complicated that we have to grab every opportunity that we get to sometimes survive and also make our life as comfortable as possible. There is however a limit to what we can hope to achieve and it is always better to be aware of this fact so that there is no misery or unhappiness later...The more we have faith in ourselves and start listening to our conscience the better are our chances of reaching our goals..

I wish it is that simple, i just wait around for my faith to move the mountain so i can build an underground tunnel and lay the track for my high speed train project. I don't even have to plan, then hire workers to start digging and excavate my way around the mountain. I can just let my faith move that mountain, then lay down the foundation, hook up my track and all the necessary safety and warning system , then sit back relax, use my faith to place the mountain back to where it originally located. Volla ! My construction project is done. My faith had just move the mountain for me.

Of course...we need to do our part. Laundry can not clean itself as any person do not smile for no particular reason at all. It's a 2-way street which is useless unless you walk or drive through it. Things happen because we make them happen. We can not always hope for a miracle. We don't see God but we believe in Him cause of faith as we believe on the existence of the wind that touches our face. Enough said....i think i'm going to write a poem later. lol good post...thanks :)

Hi gicolet, of course we need to do what we have to do,and as you rightly said things happen because we make them happen. As long as people do not confuse god and faith with duty and responsibility things would go on well ...In Bhagavadgeetha , Lord Krishna says the same thing - do what you have to without thinking of the end or results, do your best and things will take their own course...all the best
