I filed my vacation leave last month. And today would be my last day at work. Because the next day, that would be my off which is 2 days. I attached near my day off when I filed my Vacation Leave. And guess what happen after a month of waiting. They rejected my leave because of less duty on Sat and Sun. I don't get it. And I am really boiling at this moment. I want to shout and curse the. But I just stay cool. I am really disappointed. I didn't do anything for a month. And they will gonna end my leave rejected. Grrrrrr. I want to get out the office right on the middle of my shift. So that they can see how I felt for rejecting my vacation

Be understanding, sometimes we are blinded by our anger. Decide carefully and talk to your boss about your wanting to have that long awaited leave and for sure with pleasant conversation you will have good arrangement with him. It is hard to look for a job now and so do not move to the losing end.

I understand that you should feel quite frustrated, and angry, but, it is better, before doing anything to cool down and, think again with the fresh mind, maybe your employer has plans for this period, or, just wanted to piss you off, that happens, in either case, is better to think with the mind cool, and not while angry.

Well said, albto. When one is angry and frustrated, one cannot take things in its proper perspective. Thus, it is best to be quiet and keep to oneself all the anger and resentment while things have not settled down. For it is at these moments when we usually do or say things that make us so very sorry once we have calmed down.

Did you just find out now, or had they told you a while ago? I could see if you asked last minute or something and it was rejected, but to ask a month in advance. Personally sounds like they were not wanting to work with you, but since you are keeping calm about it hopefully the next time you have to take off for something they will think twice and honor it for you.

They have the right to reject your leave if they deemed it unsuitable. Since u know u are taking advantage of your 2 off days, it means u are taking more than what u applied for. The company knows that, and maybe they are expected heavy workload during that period, thus your leave is not approved? I've always come across such leaves and i have rejected a few too, when they are applying it too often. I dunno about u though

I've been in your situation before and I feel the same way. But it's not happening always. Of course it's depends on the situation. The company/admin just have their own rules/regulation that if can't be complied,.. as their employee, we must do something to meet that goal wheather it will ruin our day. And of course that should be within the labor code.

Thats what happens when you work for someone. They hold all the keys and you have no control what so ever. I have been there and I also had that happen to me. It is very frustrating. I hope you get to take a vacation soon.

What kind of office is that? You should complain to your management. What will happen to the month that you did not do anything? You will be considered absent?

Yeah, but trouble is if you do that you might not have a job when you come back. Well I did that once so I know, and I didn't care. I did not want to go back. They would not give me the leave I wanted so I quit and went anyway and got a better job when I got back. Maybe that is not a good idea in this economy though. It worked that one time :-)

I hate it when that happens! For me, it was a request to respond with the Red Cross during hurricane Katrina back in 2005, but they told me they couldn't afford to be without me for two to three weeks even though the state allowed employees that much time if they were with the disaster services human resources. Needless to say, I was not happy with them after that and I got away from the job as soon as I was able to find something else even though it took over another year before I left. I hope you were able to get an alternative leave.

I can certainly appreciate your frustration! Looking forward to a vacation only to have the leave cancelled! It does sound most unfair but although I understand your need to scream and shout I hope you kept it in check because it may be costly to over react. I hope your work allows you to change the dates in the near future so you can reapply.

Sorry to hear this news. I hate feeling controlled by my workplace, so this is why I am self employed these days. I honestly could not ever see myself going back to full time work ever! Freedom is everything to me.

I would be just as upset as you as you did give them plenty of notice with the request. Why they waited so long to reject, at least if they did so right away you could have planned for a different date and or get the reasoning why a month was not enough time. It is completely understandable that you are upset and I would be just as much as you. Did they give you a reason for the rejection?

Sometimes it happen that some things does not go easy. Don't worry. Try to apply for leave one more time and state that this is really important to you, because... I don't know. You can think of any reason. I know that if something is rejected we can feel angry and frustrated but try to stay calm. Anyway I wish you lovely day.

I hope you don't (or didn't) leave in the middle of your shift as you said you wanted to. As someone above mentioned, a new job might not be easy to get right now and you don't want a permanent leave. What you need is a bit of hard exercise (not with the mouth) to work off that adrenaline. You should not talk to your boss when angry. I didn't quite understand the reason they gave for rejection. What did they mean by "less duty on Sat. or Sunday?

Oh i would feel angry too, if i were on your shoes. Imagine having it filed since last month, only to find out that it's rejected! But no don't walk out on your shift , it might jeopardize your job. Better yet, talk with your boss and say your piece to him, emphasizing that you filed it last month , so it could be arranged as to who can fill in your place during that VL.

Hi! Oh that is really not nice of them. You can complain about that to the management. They should have told you earlier about your rejected leave.

I think that your company doesn't want you to get a vacation, maybe the case, or the policy from upper level manager. But, during recession, many companies would force their employees to get a vacation without payment. And during vacation, company may find someone to replace your position and send a letter to inform you that you are fired. So, if I were you, I would rather not want to a vacation but just regular weekend, it may help me save my job unless I don't want this job anymore. So, I think that it depends on you. You should ask your peer who knows perfect well of company's policy on the vacation first instead of protesting to your managers.
