Fraudulent charges

I noticed over the weekend that there were some fraudulent charges on my bank statement. It amounted to about 52 dollars - 3 sep charges - 2 of them listed as Apple Itunes. No one in the family has an account with them.
I went first thing in the morning to my credit union and thankfully they are reimbursing me for the charges and then cancelled my card. I have to wait about a week for a new card.
She said that nowadays the technology is unreal. You can walk by someone that has a secret card reader and it will read your card from inside your wallet or pocketbook! Isnt that scary? Has anything like this happened to you?

It happens, sometimes it would even be huge amount especially if you do have a larger credit limit.
Nowadays, though some shopping centers would counter check the name written in the plastic cards with the printed receipt. However, others are also wise to use the fraud accounts in internet purchases, but if willing, the banks can trace them back to the requestor especially if they are buying items deliverable to their addresses, etc.

If they work in cohoots with someone at a store that needs to boost their sales or who makes commissions - then it is harder to catch. In this case Itunes says it is not their fault and they are not responsible since it was a valid card and they had the CVV number.

It has happened to my husband and I a couple of times. Each time we were able to get the money put back in almost immediately which is great. I have had to close my accounts as well and open new ones. It is sad that there are many people who do things like that.

And it is an inconvenience for us to have to close accounts and wait for new cards.

I no longer do any credit cards...I never liked the idea of spending beyond my means anyway...Now I just save to buy things. It is tough, but it is working for me. The only time I had unknown charges on a credit card was when my EX. got hold of them and maxed them out...

This was actually scarier - it was my debit card - they could have cleaned me out!

Oh my goodness no I have not had this happen to me. Makes for a scary thought that someone could actually do that. But then I have heard where some go to stores and write down the numbers of the Visa/Mastercard gift cards and when someone buys one and it is activated somehow by the time they use it there are no funds left on the card.
Amazing isn't it that hackers, and thieves find many lucrative ways to get the goods.

Well, this is scary. And not good because if someone at your back ,and then you are at atm place and you did not know that the person that behind you already read what number of your cad or so.
So i think all bank should have detector. So they will know who is scammers or doing such thing.

It happened to me also. I think there are stores that copy your all your card details or you purchase something online unsafely. Nowadays it is so easy to make a purchase using someone else account. So I only use my card on ATM machines and reliable stores when I make purchases.

Someone also told me that when they take your card away in restaurants that sometimes the server will use their cell phone to take a picture of the front and back of your card - how scary is that?
