I don't get it! Why would someone put their body through this? It can't possibly be healthy and surely no prize is worth it? Has anyone ever known anyone who was in a food eating contest or perhaps been in one themselves??? You couldn't pay me to do this. Not only does it look gross and sloppy, it's really bad for you. My apologies to anyone who enjoys doing this

I could not see anyone doing this, but it is because well I am jealous of the skinny girl or guy who can eat without gaining an inch. I also do not even like it when I spill something on my blouse or sweater. I feel that everyone is looking at me. So maybe they really do not care. And there is this skinny girl or guy who can eat without gaining an inch or a pound.

@Suspenseful. I also feel very self conscious when I spill food on my clothes, and that would be another drawback to me.

I am over endowed and guess where the food lands and guess what, stupid me, I do not carry Tide to Go in my purse, so usually I rush to the washroom.

I know someone who had joined these contests. He wanted to eat free food that's why. I agree with you though, that joining food speed eating contests is unhealthy. I would surely stop him the if he plans to join the next time.

Yeah, as waflay had said, joining the contest is totally free. They get to eat free food, plus, they'll get another free food (that's the prize usually) if they win the contest. I heard that there is a fast food in my area, wherein if you could eat their burgers within a set time frame, you don't have to pay for it. It's part of their promo.

Yeah stary1, it's really indecent to wolf eating food speedily in the contest. Besides it's unhealthy to eat such a great amount of food without chewing nicely. If I could win the great prize but it's still not worthy in case I have to suffer from any stomach problem later It's sure that I won't participate in any such food contest. The first reason is care more about more about my health and secondly my eating speed is rather slow and this shows that I totally don't have any chance to defeat the other challengers.
Happy posting and have a nice day

May be it would be really fun to have a group of friends to join in the interesting food eating contest. regardless of winning of price at least we could fill our stomach with the free food served further more it will be a unique and beautiful remembrance together with our friends right?!

Well, I wouldn't participate in a food eating contest. I don't come across these competitions in my state.
Apart form the fact that I may not like what is to be eaten, it also may casue extreme digestive problems. Let alone encouraging weight problems. Not a good idea at all.

All my life I have liked small helpings. If I am hungry, then I can ask for seconds. But not more than that. I feel, as you do, that it is gross and absolutly unhealthy. There are many kinds of contests that I find shamefull in one way or another. This is one of them

I hadn´t thought of that when answering, although I´m aware that there are 2 billion undernourished people on Earth. I work everyday at freerice.com to donate rice through the WFP of the UN. The worst part of all id the our planet has enough food for all and it wates in some places

I know that and I think we must be careful with all our planet´s resources, no matter how much we think we have for ourselves. There are other people in the planet that need it.

It's something that i wouldn't go through. I was going over my taptu news when i saw this Chinese person winning an egg eating contest. He ate 15 eggs in all to win.
I agree with you that it's not healthy at all and I think people should stop punishing themselves in this way. I don't even think it's funny too.

Just read the headlines. Didn't even bother to read the whole article since it doesn't interest me at all.

I am with you all the way on this one. I would not do it, because I like to actually taste and enjoy the food I eat. I get sloppy enough already, and it hurts to overeat. Actually, when confronted by large amounts of food, I am overwhelmed and usually take small portions, like at Thanksgiving. I do not consider it entertaining to see someone eat themselves sick, either.

Oh I can relate on Thanksgiving..there is so much great food and it's a celebration that I like to 'treat myself' and often eat more than I should.
This year I will be doing dinner and so I will limit the variety but there are some standards that are a MUST HAVE

My husband try once but it ended to be a failure. Though he is big, he cannot do it. He gave up upon consuming the first sandwich. But it was fun. :)

Most of the contestants in food eating competition have big stomachs and rigid intestines that can withstand the amount of goodies and delicacies they put into their mouth, the vast amount of food they can eat is much more important than the health of their body. Those food in the eating contest look pleasing to the eye, tasty to the mouth, and the smell aromatic to the nose, making the constentant drool instantly. Forget about the gross look and bad for the health for a moment, it worth to enjoy the feast at the expense of the health temporarily. Not even mention the winner will get a year of free meal in the McDonald Restaurant and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

It never stop amaze me that some people possess very unique logic that it is worth the expense of their health in exchange for big feast and plenty of food, i assume they will choose food over personal health if given the choice and in light of your advice, after all, they are striving hard to live for food every day hoping to beat the rest of us most of the time, I am sure for some of these contestants, get to eat so much 'free' food in one setting is a lot worth than worry about health, you can easily see such type of mentality in buffet restaurant and all you can eat cafe. Food, Food and More food is the best part of living as far as these people are concerned.

I admit, I can drink a gallon of milk pretty quickly myself, but I don't do it for any contest. The only reason I do it is out of a craving after I have perform heavy lifting, and broke my body down to the point where it is the only thing that will help me recover. I actually did one of these challenges once, and defeated everyone else. The goal was to drink a gallon of milk and hold it down for an hour without puking. A normal person would have a very hard time doing it, but I drink a lot of milk regularly because of how hard I work, so I had an unfair advantage. I don't like those contests because their gross, and sickening seeing people puke, and wreaking havoc on their stomaches. Also, as a huge fan of milk, the thought of people wasting it for a contest (as with any other food), makes me MAD! People could use that food they are wasting.

I didn't think that it would help recover at first. It was just something that I craved after working hard, which made it tastes so good, and me consume so much of it. I used to be a normal person where it would take a couple of days to drink a gallon of milk. Now I am a monster. I grew in size and strength and consumption. I am not human when it comes to milk because not only can I drink a lot of it, I don't get sick, I can still function with a gallon of milk in me, and sometimes get hungry. I did read that some articles about how milk helps recovery after a workout, but this was after I started abusing milk, and treating a gallon as if it was a glass.

Yes I personally know I could not enter such type of contest as not only would be way too much for me to eat, somehow I find it so sloppy it would gross me out too. I personally do not know anyone who has entered such type of contest but do know some how can eat large amounts and seem to be able to win such type of contest.

In some parts of the world people die from starvation, in other parts of the world people who are not hungry get sick because they eat too much food in order to win a contest I don't really see the point in food contests, and I think that it is both unhealthy and a waste of food. I have never participated in a food contest, and I don't plan on doing it either, but I have seen a contest, because it took place at my school. I think it was pretty gross. The people who participated only had one thing in mind - to eat as fast a possible to win the contest, and I didn't find it very entertaining.

No kidding I am with you. I think of food as relaxing and eating a meal or pastry and cup of tea.
Not something you have to keep wolfing down LOL
As they say some people will do anything for money.
I am a very small eater always have been so for me I would not ever earn anything unless they gave a prize for last place!

LOL now that would be a twist..a prize for who can eat the least and the slowest...I just don't understand the stuffing food down ones throat..and have you seen the contests? Many of the times they can't even use their hands...their hands are tied behind their backs!!

Oh, I'll better accept your apology since i have joined this kind of contest for a fund raising campaigns for flood victims in our locality. Perhaps getting out of the way for once will not bring bad result and especially it's for a cause!
