Online or Idle status in mylot

I just wish that here in mylot community we will see users that is online and active and who is not or offline and far away from the keyboard. Or we will see if the users is idle or online and doing some activity here. I know that we are always online here and logged here in mylot, but sometimes I do something else online like I am writing articles or blog hopping and I don't sign out here in mylot! And I know some of you do the same. So what you think about it? Does mylot will consider my suggestion?

yes if that happens ,if the mylot will consider your suggestion them we can make comments very fast and respond to discussions. As we can find who is online and who is not,we can discuss topic "live" to the other person who is online with us at the same time,no need to wait and see the notifications in our mail box.

Hmm like Facebook you can't tell if anyone is logged in unless they are using the chat, which is something I have yet to date do so they no one there can tell if I am logged in. So thinking specifically about myLot, I don't see how that is possible as for one I logged in at around 8am for about 3 hours today, then I went out but left the tab open. I came back a few hours later and left two more times. So it would appear as if I was online right? So how will that help anyone if I am not really here but yet leave my tab open all day? I can see if we had direct one on one with member consistently as I do with a couple, but not sure why I would want a worldwide site to know that I am logged in. What reasons could you think of that maybe I am missing? Only reason why I hesitate is that there are a few members that I know when they will be here and they know when I am. I use the PM system very frequently each and every day with them and we tell one another when we are on and or will be away. Which I find is privacy for me, so not sure I would want just anyone to know.

@hwg: I don't like at all the FB chat system telling others that you are logged in. I let also the tab opened, but my connection is closed two hours after the last keyboard/mouse activity on my computer -- I am not sure it is easy to do it on Windows --.

I have been known to leave my tab open for hours on end and if I forget to set it to idle then members might think I am ignoring them. We can always check the members profile here to see when was the last time they logged in. For instance when I left here on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks, those who were not aware, began to start discussions as to where I have been. Those that knew about my going away were very interactive in those discussions, informing others as to why I had not been around. I suppose if it was an available feature here many would use it and it could benefit them, but as with my previous use of Iming, I usually always had it as away and never really set it.

Then the user is in the idle mode and maybe the user is busy doing something online yet the tab is open or close. This is only to prevent some users to complain on why the starter doesn't responds back!

Seems like a great idea. similar to some other online forums, we could use to know if the discussion we are replying to's owner is currently logged in or in idle mode or is offline. The status can be seen beside the username we use in mylot, i guess that sure would be great.

hi airkulet do not you get notifications of your mylot fri ends discussions? oh not the chat crap again. no I would quit my lot if it turned into another chat line, lets leave mylot the way it is its unique one of a kind self.surely if you are active here you will see your friends responding and commenting here?I am on here a lot each day and am very active. but no chat lines. there are hundreds of chat lines .we do not need one in mylot at all.anyone wants me just respond to my discussions and I will comment back.I d o not like that idea at all.

Don't you think that we are not also seen as strange people by visitors sent here by search engines?

You misinterpret it Hatley, I don't intend to put a chat here in mylot what I am trying to say is, If the user is active that time or not! So that the respondents will understand why the thread starter doesn't response back the moment they put their comment. I hate a chat anyway, I know that we are all here to learn and to earn and not to bug anyone.

That's a good idea. I normally am always logged on to myLot as well even while doing other things on the net. I hope you can find ways to get myLot people know about this ^^ myLot community will surely be more fun!

I have thought about this before. Since I would like to have discussions with people while I am online, usually I check out the RECENT discussions and the NEW discussions so I could have the chance to exchange posts with people who are present at Mylot at the same time that I am. However, I also understand Hatley's fears. Already I see certain people with long comment threads but they are talking about things other than the discussion topic. Sometimes the comments become just the hi-how-are-you kind of stuff which ruins the discussions. We should say hi-how-are-you things to our friends in private messages and post responses related to the topic under discussion.

True that that is in the guidelines and what I'm merely trying to say is that some users do not follow the rules which leads to the ruin of a discussion. This often happens when certain users who are good friends are online at the same time and they communicate in a discussion in the quick way of a chat system that we are left with an exchange of short comments saying this-and-that, things unrelated to the original topic. I've seen such threads. However, I would like to see who's online at the moment I am so I could receive responses and comments and have a meaningful exchange of ideas quickly. Sometimes I do get fidgety waiting for a response. Sometimes thread starters just don't respond right away because they got busy in other threads. I guess that's really the beauty of forum-style conversations. One can always come back anytime.

That is in the guidelines already and in the dos and donts, and I think everyone knows it! And what my intentions is, to let know others on why the thread starter doesn't responds right away.

I think that would be great, but I don't know how useful it would be - after all, we can't "chat"

I am sure many would like this functionality so that they can see if there friends are online or if they are idle. But for me personally if they did introduce this functionality I would like an over ride function so that I don't have to show my status. And the reason is that my time on here is limited and whilst chatting to people is always nice when you have come on here for just a few minutes to respond to some discussions I wouldn't want someone suddenly messaging me because they saw I was online.

Hi! I personally don't see any point to show our status here as idle or online since mylot is a forum type of website, you don't need to respond to someone only when they are online, you can just use your own sweet time and respond to others discussion or create your own discussion. Whoever that join mylot should know that we don't expect instant reply from others mylotters. So, what is the point of putting such a status here? Do you think other will want to know whether you are in front of your computer or away from your computer? I am not objecting what you want but it's just not suitable and no function if it is in mylot.

That is a good idea. If that happens, we can chat with other mylotters aside from just responding to discussions. More friendships will be formed.

Hi zec, I think that you also misinterpret it, I am not suggesting for a fancy chat like. Please read all my replies and you will understand what I mean.

Hi airkulet... I am not sure if that would be practical for us to see everyone who is online and active in real time. There are thousands of members here and I don't know how many are all on at the same time, but I would think it would be a large number? You can always just watch your inbox and see who replies right away and know who is interested in discussing in real time. I often multitask, so I come and go throughout the day as I am dong other things.

Hi stary1 thanks for your response. Ive seen it in other forums that after their username it indicates if the user is in idle mode or in offline/online mode. Yes I know that we are all have a life other than mylot but some fellows here assumes already that I was pointing out to what they think is chatting. Which is also way beyond what I want. I also do blogging and some work task that I receive at my own, and also mylot is not the only forum that I was active too. So my concerns is to let others know that I am busy and can't read and response (right away) every comment they make on my post here, so as to prevent some complains about the poor thread starter.

I am a new member at MyLot. Your discussion, give an answer to me. Previously, I was puzzled to know, myLot members are online. Apparently, in MyLot is not available. It's very unique. MyLot certainly has a reason, why not add this.

what would be the point if there is not a chat facility? i only think the advantage would be when one doesn't want to write and just communicate..
