Are there foolish commercials in your country? Here in the Philippines, we would have advertisements on whitening stuff and they would choose a model who is actually flawlessly white! There would be advertisements about slimming teas, and yet, their commercial models are actually slim ladies! What do these advertising people take us for anyway?!

I don't like con artists, I question the companies and products that use them. I do see some commercials that are very entertaining. I would like to produce one sometime. My favorite commercials are those that just do something funny or say something where when they are done you have no idea what the product was.

Hello Grace. There are all kinds of commercials here on the TV, newspapers, magazines, and so on. They are pretty inventive I would say. Some are really very meaningful and attractive. But, as you say, some are so foolish and senseless. One couldn't even quite understand what it is trying to promote.

It's called subliminal reinforcement: by showing you an ideal, they convince you that you need to be like that. Just listen to teenage girls and boys to see the effect. It's a fundamental tool of modern marketing. The basic idea is to subtly convince you of what you need while occupying your conscious mind with nonsense, pretty images and music.
Just another reason why I hate marketing.

Yes there are far too many foolish commercials on television. Or there were when I really watching television with any sort of regularity. It does make me wonder what these people are thinking, thinking that their products should in fact be marketed in such a absurd manner. Of course, given that there are a lot of people out there that would in fact be enticed by the absurdity out there, it is really going to not be that much of a surprise.
Still there are a lot of commercials that are going to make my head shake side to side to say the very least. Especially when they seem to be replayed many times throughout a single show. They would really not be so bad if they did not get replayed so often, for months on end, and there were some variety to said commercials. Its one thing to be entertaining, but they tend to try a little too hard.

I think that is common everywhere. Like for example, the last few days I have seen a commercial about dieting and/or fat burning pills, but like you said they use people that are already slim, that all they have done while on this so called diet pill is lose maybe a few pounds and/or inches. They really don't provide testimony of someone who has been successful in losing 50lbs or plus. That's why I personally don't trust those type of commercials I find them to be a bit bogus.
