My friend thinks this film is brilliant and profound, I think it's mildly interesting, but also overly pretentious and too long. We both agree that the imagery is beautiful, but were she saw depth, I only saw annoying voice-overs, muddled narrative and a silly ending. I have to admit that the movie does give one food for thought, but the director attempting to give the destiny of one family almost mythical proportions doesn't really leave room for real emotion, in my opinion.
In the end, The Tree of Life didn't say anything of interest to me. Also, I think that trying to make a serious movie about the meaning of life (?) is doomed from the beginning, unless you're a genius. The subject is just too big.
So, what do you think about this film?

I haven't really seen the film, but i know that brad Pitt starred in it, and I usually lie the movies he is in. This looks like a serious drama based on the summary- maybe it's just not for you. it may be boring for some since it is in the 50s and stories like these run long..

I've discussed this further with my friend, and we've come to the conclusion that this film isn't really for everyone. And it's not for me. It is rather long and definitely (too) serious, though I don't mind the 50s.
I like Brad Pitt too (nice to look at :D), but not in this film. He plays the authoritarian father, and his character is not likeable at all.
