Do you believe in miracles?

I was watching yesterday a talk show, where the main discussion point was on the existence of miracles. It was presented the famous John of God from Brazil, who claims he can cure any kind of illnesses and sicknesses without surgery and in short period of time. The moderator asked the guests if they believe in miracles, and all of them said that they are. Then he asked the crowd, and the majority of them answered that they are also believing the miracle. Then they started debating about the case of John of God and the guests were not so sure if he can really perform miracles. Then I have fall asleep, I missed the rest of the discussion, and that is why I want to ask you: DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? What is your opinion of this John of God? Do you think he is really performing miracles or he is a fraud?

This is what I say also. A person who questions everything cannot really enjoy life and the beautiful things which happen. There are people who like to research everything, it is their business, I have nothing against them, till they don't have anything against us.

I believe in miracles. I believe they are things we don't yet understand and they are perfectly possible with God.

@stary: I agree with you, science and miracles can coexist perfectly. @smilingjack: I can see that you are an unbeliever, but that doesn't give you the right to mock about others who believe. I respect your way of living, your belief, please be respectful to believers also.

@smilingjack: If you say that miracles and science cannot possibly coexist, then you have a limited way of thinking, in my opinion. And I don't think that human rights give you right to mock about other people's belief, if it doesn't instigate to break law. As for as I know, we have the freedom to believe whatever we want, to have any religion which are acknowledged and we have the right to be respected for that. Cynical can be disrespectful also, because you think you are superior to others who believe in God.

smilingjack Others believe the same as you do..and it's interesting to hear your POV. I don't agree, but I always like to hear what everyone has to say.

If you believe miracles are possible, you do not believe in science! If you believe in science, miracles are impossible. There has never been a scientifically proven miracle, and there has never been a miracle in the field of science! The 2 and just not compatible. Every modern convenience, and all the wonderful life-saving medicines, in our lives today were brought about by science. Can you list one (just one) life-changing miracle that has made our world a better place?

barehugs I don't know, but I am thinking what some people used to think was a miracle, was actually an explanable event. Like an eclipse..Ages ago, peole didn't understand why it was happening but years later they did. I think many miracles are like this and someday we will understand...

@barehugs: I have to disagree with you. Science is one thing, miracle is another thing. You say that if I believe the laws of physics, than I cannot believe in miracles? I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with this way of thinking. Have you heard about the accident which that motorcycle star has suffered? Kubica I believe. When he had that accident, he has spoken with the medics in English, although he didn't knew English, but after the accident, he could speak English for about two hours, to communicate with the medics, who have saved his life. I can believe both science and this event also, which I don't know how can this be explained. @stary: You are right, there were many things which were considered strange and miraculous in the past and nowadays can be explained, but just read this story about that motorcycle star, I don't know if it was Kubica, but I don't think this will ever be possible to explain.

@smilingjack: I said if my mother can remember what she saw, I will search for it, maybe I will have to translate the news, but I will do it. For that, I need to talk with my mother first and I will do so pretty soon.

Yes, Miracles exists. We cannot define that and it may be related to a very advanced science which we are not aware of! OR it is from almighty, God, Allah, Jesus...etc, and cannot be explained. If you remember the story of how people acted when informed that the Earth is Round and not Flat. Always remember that we live in a spiritual World not just physical; hence, our current sciences and knowledge will never explain many occurrences. Wishes for a Happy Inner Exploring Journey :).

@GroWin: Even if science can explain the process, they will never provide a good explanation of why are these things happening. They can explain how the human body works, that is science and I accept this. But why is the human body working like this, what can they say? And I know that the world is full of spirituality, because I had life experiences which have convinced me of this. Of course, when I will tell this to a non-believer, he won't believe me, so why bother? @shskumbla: I also agree with you that mind power exists, but why does this exist? Even the Bible says that those who have unshakable faith, they can move mountains. This is the same with what are you saying, in my opinion.

Mind power exists. This we call as miracle? If many people believe a thing/subject at the same time mind power plays there. I believe this.

Hi Rappeter the 13th... In my opinion, and All I know about miracles... Miracle is from God, HIMself. And if it is really God's work thru that man, then the man will not boast about his skill or his ability to cure any illnesses or sicknesses, due it is the God's work and God's will to cure the person who is sick. Even the man is recognized as a prophet or healer by the congregation at his church, still he does not have the right to boast himself. All he can do, is only pray. because we can reach God n move/touch God's heart/compassion thru our pray. God does the miracle, not the man. When a man boast himself of his skill n ability to cure...and the patient is really cure... without any doubt, I say it is the devil's work. Nowadays, there will be lots of fake healers and prophets who confess their ability is from God. One thing, you can be sure that...if the miracle is from God, that man will not need anything as a medium/tools. Only pray to Jesus Christ, not to other name.

It is wonderful how you lived this experience. I am sure that this has made you more stronger in your belief, and I am very glad to hear this. Just a question, because it is not clear for me: Are you now able to walk? Did this disease last for 4 days? Forgive me, but I am not a native English speaker and therefore misunderstandings can born.

Nice response. You are right, the people are only using the power which God has given to them. The majority of great people always said this, that they feel how God works inside of them and they are glad that they can reach the people with the talent they have got. I am glad when I see this kind of responses, when I see that there are people who believe in God, even if the trend is to become an atheist.

hahaha... do I sound like an atheist..? well...maybe...if my condition is not improved within these few days :-P LoL. No...just kidding :-P I know my God. I know my JC. He would not let me go. He is a chaser, U know that? Even if I run away or hiding or being grumpy all day n night...He still chases me I must be grateful for every grace He gives me. Do you ever know how it feels if you cannot walk? cannot even move your feet...n cannot standing for more than 1 minute..? I have. on august 2008. on my birthday. I could not move my leg, from knee to toe. 4 days. cannot even standing on my feet for more than 1 minute. Not nice. scary. sad. desperate. all negative thinking mixed up in my head. never willing to get that bad experience again. I know I must be grateful for every single thing God gives me which usually forgotten, just like breathing, seeing, smelling, sniffing, talking, hearing, etc.

Believing in miracles doesn't mean it is not scientific. Miracles can be just things that we don't understand now. Ask a person who lived 100 years ago about internet or computers, they would have looked at you and said that you are out of your mind. Even today if we were to ask people who are living somewhere that is far and isolated from the modern world by great forests and oceans such as Papua New Guinea, about TV or radio, they won't be able to understand what we are talking about. Yes. I am open-minded with miracles. Faith healing is like using the inner power of humans. Remember some people who did extraordinary thing in times of emergency? Like lifting up a 1000kg stone to let go of a kid who was trapped in an earthquake. I feel there are still a lot we don't understand about our body. Let's think about Yoga, or Tai-Chi, these are skills that can make our body stronger but we don't really know why. Nothing is impossible until it is proven possible.

You made a very good explanation and I agree mostly with what you said. You are very true when saying that miracles and science don't exclude each other, even is many would disagree with this. And there are special people in the world who have special abilities, and the majority of them will say that they feel how a divine force is working in them.

I don't know if he is a fraud or not. So much is possible. A miracle is something that cannot be explained. If someone really could travel back in time to when the Bible was written and take an Ipod back with them, the people of that time would think that it was a miracle. It would be magic to them. In fact, people used to get burned at the stake for being a witch for using science and math. Just because we cannot explain something, does not mean that something cannot be explained. No, I do not believe in miracles.

I just partially agree with you, but I have had life experiences when I felt the power of a higher entity which has literally saved my life, and other experiences told by my grandmother also. And please read what I have written in my previous comments also, you may not believe me, but trust me, I am not the person who just makes up this kind of stories. Please, after reading them, what do you think about this events, with the motorcycle star and about the girl who has recovered from invalidity?

Sure Miracles exist!! OK! That depends on how one defines a Miracle. A Miracle is a Miracle until such time one can figure out just how it was done then it becomes science or knowledge. Now, God has an IQ off the charts. There will be Miracles for a mighty long tine before we can figure them all out. AS for faith, mystic or magic, please let's all strive for truth and facts instead. Mankind has learned to value beliefs far too much. Truth and facts will supply the real answers. Logic and reason not mere feeling should lead the way.

I think that it is everybody's business what he believes or not, in who he believes or not. Like I said before, there are miracles which can be explained by science, but the science cannot figure out the reason for that miracle. When somebody can recover, when everybody thinks it is impossible, it can be explained, that I don't know what happened in the body, but nobody can tell why did this happen, what was the power which started the healing action. I am also a person who likes to think, who tries to see everything with a "skeptical" eye, which means that logic and reason come first, but I also have this feeling(which are from life experiences) that God is there and He is powerful.

Hi Rappeter, This is the first time that i heard about the John of God so pardon me that I can't comment on this however, i personally believe in miracles. The fact that i am still breathing is enough for me to know that miracles happen. Everytime i go out and see the beauty of nature and the Almighty's creations are proof the miracles do exist. I considered myself a result of a loving miracle. Have a good day!

Yes, i believe in miracles but they don't come often and they don't come easily. Miracles is just like luck, they appear when we least expect it and the more we try to create miracles, the worst the situation becomes. Miracles are part of nature, part of life, we should not ask too much of it since too much miracles will make one lose their purpose in life. I believe in it, but i don't trust it.

I see. So you believe that miracles happen from time to time, but you don't believe they will happen in your life. Better said, you don't count on them. However, they may happen, just like you said, when you expect the least.

Of course i strongly believe in miracles! Can you imagine, even our life itself is miracle, we breathe, walk, and can enjoy life, it is among the many wonders. And i think anyone can bring the miracle, of course with the power, permission and will of God.

Yes, I agree with you. But the non-believers will come and say that this is normal and they will say how the human body functions. They are true, but I never heard an explanation why is the human body working like this. What is the reason for instincts? What is the reason that we function the way we are? Then, many non-believers claim that if there was God, how come so many bad things happen. God never said that the paradise is on Earth, He has said that this is the so called "probation time" where we must earn the right to live eternal or burn in the fire. So, I think everybody has the right to see life how he wants, because in the end everybody will find out the truth.

Yes, I see this things also, I cannot imagine how this things would have been made just by themselves. How did the human body be like this, without a major force which formed it? Nice response!
