I wrote my family history years ago (5000 + words). I never got it printed, as I was sure I could find more infornmation. But I have come to a stand still in regards to information, so I have decided it is time to write it up in a printable format.
I have many, many photos to include, and I have a scanner.
I don't want to pay a publisher to do this, as it is quite expensive.
I will probably need many copies done, as I still get requests from very distant relatives for copies.
I have printer.
I just want a nice format, where flexibilty for photos, titles, etc are possible.
Can anyone recommend a program that would do this for me?

Hi jennybianca
From the commonly used and easily available ones - I think MS Word or Writer from Open Office can help you. They have these features of headlines, titles and even captions etc. in built with them. But incase you are looking for something more specific maybe you can try Liquid Story Binder XE. It is a Story Board editor and allows you Chapter and Scene Based Writing

Jenny, have you looked at what Ancestry.com has to offer on this or do you want to do the publishing yourself? Maybe try googling self published family history? I am curious because I am into that also. But, I have more pictures and not a lot of history. Sadly.

Sorry, jenny...if I can't plant it, or grow it..I don't have much to offer...LOL! I am pretty new, to the cyber world, a neophyte is what I am..and still NOT really comfortable in it!
Thank the good Lord, for "experts" like thesids, to have on your friend's list and whatever he suggests, for me would be like advice from the Computer God..!
Thank you for accepting my friendship, jenny...and look forward to your discussions...and learning so much more about Australia..that is definitely on my "bucket list!"

Just loving all the controversial "new discussions" you are creating, dear jen...you have made me dig out my thinking cap, and dang, it doesn't fit anymore...LOL!
The "myLot" world is a much better place with you two in it, that is for sure! Like you, jenny, "thesids" took a much needed hiatus, and was truly missed..so much so, that I even PM'd, and was pleased that he was actually taking a vacation! We all need a break, sometime! Take care..and CHEERS!

Hi dear pergammano
good to see you back
Well, I am not an expert but in this case it seems it is my curiosity that helped me. I have recently started planning to write some short stories - adaptation from Hindu Religions - The Jataka Tales and also the Panchtantra. I grew up reading these in English and Hindi. Now I have plans to translate them into some of the regional languages I know. I am sure all of these texts have already been translated and I am not going to do anything new. But still, I think that will be good as I can donate these translations to the local orphanage where I often visit.
