"The plane flew very close that.." "The plane flew very closely that.." Which sentence is the correct one?Is the close word used as an adjective or adverb?

Hi... I can correct the first sentence to: The plane flew very close TO that... Hope this'll help ....

Since the plane is moving most correct tem wqould be to say "The plane flew very closely that.." This means the plain did not holt but was continuing. If you say "The plane flew very close that.." that means the plane was for a while close .... and then it wasn't. It depends what you intend to say. If you wish to say that there had been a continuity in the long run then best may be to say very closely. This is the interpretation.

I am still wondering if close is used as an adjective here?
