Can someone explain internet marketing to me???

I have joined all of these different sites and don't know the least thing about internet marketing or affiliate marketing. Can someone please explain to me how these two work?

Internet marketing can be explained as, "Marketing or promoting your products or services to the people on the Internet". Or, marketing to people around the world using the Internet.
