My internet service provider at home is Globe. Using the Internet daily, I always encounter interruptions on the connection. Sometimes you have to wait for 30 minutes, half a day or whole day before the connection gets back. A few minutes isn't so bad at all. But half the day or a day or more is already a big headache for me.
I have a lot of stuff to do on the net hence, I really find it irritating to have no connection at all. And now it has been 2 days that there is no connection at home. I thought of applying for a disconnection last year. But changed my mind when I thought about the hassle of it. This is not the first time it happened.
Which ISP are you subscribed? Globe or Smart? Do you experience a week of no connection? Which is better of these two?

Hi enelym! Or is it mylene? Hehehe! I think it depends on your location. Like in my case, I move around a lot since I'm only renting and on my first rented house, I used PLDT for my ISP. I had great connection and never had problems with it. After a year, I moved to a new place again although not that far away from my old place but quite located on a remote district. I still used PLDT at that time and my internet was always interrupted and I do get a day or two of very slow connections to no connection at all. My subscription was 1Mb/s but I only got 300Kb/s. I complained about it to them and after so many calls I was finally able to get 1Mb/s.
I just recently moved again and this time on a subdivision. I still used PLDT since I just transferred my subscription to my new address. So far my internet connection here is really good and never had problems. What I like about PLDT is that when you call them and complain to them they would give action to your service problem, although not that prompt since I had to talk to a supervisor to get it fixed much faster. But sometimes even if you just talk to a normal agent they would fix your connection problem right away.
A friend of mine also recommended Sky Cable Broadband. It's only 1,000 pesos for 1Mb/s and they also have good technical support. I've searched about it in the internet and although many would say that it's a good ISP, still some would say it's not. Same with Sun broadband (3G). I live near an airport and they say that Sun 3G has a very good signal here which only costs 700 pesos a month for up to 3Mb/s speed. I haven't tried it yet though coz I'm not really too trusty with those USB connected internet.
If you want, you can ask your neighbors on what they use. By that you can assess on what ISP is good in your location/neighborhood

enelym or mylene would be fine ^^
one of our neighbor is with PLDT but they would sometimes asked us if we have some problem with connection, at the time they thought we are subscribed with PLDT as well. During those times they were also having problems. I guess that was normal but I really get pissed off whenever I am unable to connect for more than a day.
So I still could not say which one is better in our area. But I hope in time we could decide whether to shift with another ISP or not ^^

That's what I don't like with most of the services. Even the rebate is not worth the frustration. A whole day of no connection is just 49 pesos deduction! And when they even told me we have requested for a re-contract of our service. I think the contract is just for one year and I have no idea we have requested for a contract, so the agent told me we will pay a fee because our contract is ending in 5 months. Hence we have to wait until that month otherwise we are gonna pay.
I still haven't got time to go to their office/branch and right now the connection is somewhat okay so I guess we can try for a new ISP next year.

Those customer service didn't what's the trouble is all about. Believe me they say what think is right but not the technical department telling them any possible trouble and possible remedy to solve those troubles...
That is also happen to my connection. I used smartbro and there are days that the connection suddenly interrupted...I called to the customer service and said. It might be the antenna.
I answer to the customer service "Do you really know what are your talking about, do you have technical knowledge about server, cable connection and ISP configuration"...I said that words because the connection is suddenly cut-off then the customer service said the antenna is the problem. How come that the antenna is the problem where I figure out that there server is the source of sudden interruption due to automatic reset which dissipated by lower bandwidth because of traffic with the cables...that is why the bandwidth is dissipated and server suddenly reset...
The technician coming in and he said that server is always degrade signal because their server is not upgraded to a new version of IEEE 802.7...The technician change the configuration in the server and now my connection a little bit okay. Not like before that every week I called the customer service...
The interruption only result to heavy rain or storm...and hope these ISP provider will do more to improve their services in exchange of our subscription to them...

Yes we are having intermittent connection everyday. My ISP is Globe and I have told them many times about it but they don't seem to really know what to do with it. They scheduled for a clean-up of wires and board. Called me several times and rescheduled it until one day I got a machine generated call telling me they are gonna reschedule it again. One time I had a problem with browsing even if the connection is good so I called and they solved it instantly but when I asked about the said schedule, the agent told me that the previous one has been solved... Wow! It has been solved and we don't know that they have taken any action. I'm really getting frustrated with their service sometimes.

I always asked them the same questions my brother had also told them about the traffic with cables. It's normal to happen since we anticipate increase in the number of their subscribers. but they aren't still doing anything bout it.

Hello gelay,
I would just like to ask, what is your internet plan with PLDT? I am planning to try the MyDSL Plan under PHP 999. Was it worth it? thanks.

I am currently using Bayantel DSL but I have tried both Smart and Globe in the past. I had no problems with the use of the Wireless (not the USB modem) SmartBro with regards to connection issues. The same thing goes for Globe DSL as well. As you can see, I used a wireless and wired connections for Smart and Globe; respectively. So it's really like comparing oranges to apples if you'll ask me as to which one of the two is better.
One thing I can advise when switching between ISPs is to consider your lock-in period with your current provider. There are ISPs who give you penalty fees whenever you terminate your account with them if you have only subscribed for a year or two (depends on the subscriber's contract).
BTW, I switched to Bayantel because they gave me a discount at that time. Currently, I am enjoying the same benefits I had with the ISPs I was previously subscribed to except for a cheaper price.

I was actually asking about Globe and PLDT, I just realized my mistake today ^^
I actually asked the tech support who came to my house today to asked about Bayantel but told me Bayantel is only for Manila residence/companies. Our lock in period was until april next year (2 years) so we still have some months to think about shifting to another ISP.
Just wondering about Bayantel speed you have and how much it cost you?

I think we are using an internet plan priced at PHP899. It employs DSL connection of speeds up to 768 kbps.
Besides Manila, Bayantel also services various regional areas. Pls go to this link for details: http://www.bayan.com.ph/lolatechie/coverage.html .

Both of them don't offer good connections, if I were you I will go PLDT MysDSL. I know for a fact that it is expensive but it worth.
I have also Globe WiMax at home, and it gives me a big headache too. So, I am planning to cut the service before it reaches its maturity and have my money refund. Now, I am just waiting for my PLDT connection to be installed.

@rmendoza, I am wondering how much is the monthly service for 1 Mbps Pldt MyDSL... Have you already moved to a new ISP? A friend of mine told me that PLDT is better than Globe. I saw that you're from Bacoor.. is there a PLDT shop in SM Bacoor where I can apply for a new connection so that they may check whether a slot is still available in my area.

Hi enelym,
I've tried both internet service provider and I must say that it really depends on your location. There are people who like Smart and there are some who likes Globe while others prefer PLDT,SUN,Wimax and other internet services available. It depends on how good the reception of both ISP on your location. In my case, Smart has good HSDPA signal (as in full bar) in my area compared to Globe. I really do have issues with Globe (their tattoo kit) I don't get enough signal from them even the WCDMA bar, it seems not working. So I have decided to switch from Smart Bro, I haven't had any issues yet.

Ours i a Globe broadband that comes with a router. The problem is that the connection is intermittent. There won't be a day that the connection will not be disconnected for 5-15 minutes, which is really frustrating.

I am with Globe for years now and like you I experience bad connection now and then but it is not that bad. I almost sign up for a new provider when they offer low monthly fees but like you changed my mind since I found out Globe is still better than the rest. I guess the sad thing is we only have a few to choose from and competition is not that tough so ISP companies are too lax with their services.

You are right, currently it's Globe and PLDT (Smart) who are competing against each other. But if other Internet service proves to be really reliable and good I bet they will improve their service better. I hope Sun, Bayantel and Digitel comes with their own better internet plans and services ^^

I am using Smart bro wireless for three years and the connection of signal is good. We also encountered some problem of connection for maximum two days. All i do is just call the hotline and report the problem and they give a fast response by sending people who can managed the internet connection. My cousin also got problem with Globe connection but i don't how they manage the problem.

I also heard about the quick response from Smart, errr well actually I should have wrote about PLDT in my discussion coz that's what I actually want to say. But anyway, Smart is also a PLDT company - are they? So I've heard a lot of good things with PLDT and the fast response from them. If we are gonna subscribe to a new one we might go with them.

well, i had the worse. I've been a smart broadband subscriber and i started an internet cafe business way back 2 years ago, and in the middle of the year, my internet connection has been disconnected. Im confident enough that i have paid my internet 3 months in advance so disconnection wont happen. but 3 days later the connection is still out. after a week, i started calling them and asking what is going on, they said that they're having a maintenance for the system so i waited another week, but the connection is still out. a month after, the connection has resumed, but there are no rebates given to me despite of a month with no internet connection. i pointed things out to them that i earn at least 1K pesos everyday with my business and we all know that the internet is the life of an internet cafe business, but still they don't give me any rebates at all. so i decided to consume my advance payment and consumed 3 months of their service without paying them. after 3 months, they disconnected my connection and asking for payment and i said to them, it's all fair, after loosing a lot of money for having no connection for a month with your internet service, it's just right for me to consume at least 3 months of internet connection for free and told them to take the antennae unit and unsubscribe me from their company. they agreed and i know that it's just fair.
So my advice for you is to just stick with globe broadband and do a lot of follow up regarding your inconsistent internet connection and eventually it will be stable. Im using globe wi-max now and it is really fast.
Have a nice day my friend.

we are still with globe 'til now just don't know until when. we are thinking of shifting with Pldt myDSL since a lot of people says the connection is way better than Globe. Haven't got much time yet to go to any PLDT office. I have heard about problems with wi-max too but I am not sure when we first tried to apply for wi-max they told us it's already full and they suggested the broadband instead.

I am subscribed to Smart via the old Canopy System and i tell you, its good deal that we got it because we are enjoying its service for at-least 3 years as of now.
We cant really compare Globe and Smart because they do have differences in terms of services and if asked in their Internet Business, it is somewhat very difficult. Why? because there are so many factors to be considered like the Location, Line of Sight or LOS as they called it, the software version, the running application on your system, The internet plan and so many others.

I am not familiar with Canopy System. Yeah I also just realized that it wasn't Smart that I was comparing with Globe, it's supposed to be PLDT internet service.

I am a subscriber to Globe, however, they gave almost three weeks of online hell. To be more specific three weeks of no connection.
It started on the week when the fist typhoon came. Knowing that communication lines will be disrupted and cut, I gave them leeway becuase well, I cannot really do anything about it. So after waiting and spreading my patiently generously for the next week ( becuase another typhoon came), I got really frustrated when I have no co0nenction even though they are no clouds in the sky and shops are eating what could have been extra cash for emergencies (or anything else).
I began to email their support center in the second week, mainly becuase my patience is starting to run out and becuase of my online commitments. However, it lasted until this week (the third week in counting) becuase the local service center redesigned their offices. I was still sending emails from shops (and doing minimal online work). When they did gave me instructions, they gave it in a copy and paste manner, with no extra effort to enlighten a layman like me on how to do their blasted instructions.
Finally, today, I went to their new officers and gave a frightening impression of my discontent. Curious thing happened and my connection was back. My brother taught I was being frustrated over nothing. However, I will make sure that those three hellish weeks won't be counted in my next bill. I will sure unleash hell if they do ( I alreqady preapred a cript, just in case).
Anyway, I'm off to a vacation later becuase all of the frustration and anger has made me drained and worn out. My connection might be back but I'm in need to therapy myself to do decent online work.
I am in no position to tell you which one is the best. Each subscriber has their own opinion about that. For me, I'm sticking to Globe. I am happy since the payment is kinda low and still manageable with our budget. I just hope they give consistent service and competent CSRs. In the duration of my three-week hell, I also tried to apply to PLDT but their plans and the payment is worrying me. I am not exactly a heavy user but I do expect good service.
I know it's frustration, so much that I want to smash my own computer, tohugh it the said machine is completely blameless . However, we expect good service and we pay on time, it's not too much to ask for a stable connetcion, isn't?
@enelym001 (8322)

what a really long story of your own globe experience. And I really could understand where that frustration is coming... in fact, i just spoke with one CSR with my voice raised a little higher compared to previous two days. But the fact that I already their knowledge on it is limitated even frustrates me more. It's useless speaking to them but anyway we need to call since there is no way it can be fixed if we let it be without a connection.
What also worries me are my online activities, if it's just for facebook then I wouldn't mind waiting until october 23rd as what they have scheduled me. And today we had to bring the laptop with us at the mall. We don't normally take our laptops out in the mall.
So with this hell of an experience, you still wanted to remain with Globe... well we are kinda in the thoughts of switching but we are still undecided...
