Dear All, According to a new research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, people who love sweets have pleasant personality, are helpful, cheerful, do not get upset easily, and have a kind heart. They do not get angry very easily and have calm mood and affect. Following is the link related to this new research: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2011/10/19/sweethearts-tend-to-hit-the-sweets-says-study/ Here, we all are waiting for "Diwali"....Many myLotters are waiting "Halloween"..."Festive Season" has arrived... Don't you think it's a good news for us? Now, we have another reason to eat sweets/chocolates Research shows that those who enjoyed sweets also seemed to be very helpful and more likely to volunteer. Do you love sweets? Are you fond of Chocolates? --- What do you feel? It is true/reliable/acceptable? Personally, I feel it has truth as I have judged many people based on the results of this research....I myself is a buff of sweets get angry once is a blue moon for some good reason. one more of many links related to the research is as follows: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/235801.php So Friends, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and eat that bit of chocolate and show others how "sweet" you are. . Best wishes for upcoming festive season. . .

I really don't know for myself if this is true. But i noticed though that after i have eaten a bar of chocolate, i feel light and happy. And i don't feel contented eating just a part of the chocolate but would like to eat it all at once. Well, it is said that a chocolate perks us up.

Yes, that's due to the release of a hormone named serotonin which is known as "Hormone of good Moods" Whenever we eat chocolate, serotonin is released by our brain cells. Actually, this serotonin perks us up. It is also used in antidepressants. So, keep it up and have a lot of chocolates.

No wonder my mood changes when I eat chocolate. It's one of my comfort food whenever something upsets me. I think I should eat one everyday to start my day in a positive mood... lolz... But I'm too scared to get diabetes especially since it runs in my family.

@ichipink If you have family history of diabetes running in your family, eating chocolate daily will not be a good idea. You can perhaps use a piece of chocolate daily, if it works

It might be true for some. But I don't think it's true for me. I LOVE SWEETS! From all kinds of desserts & chocolates to my favorite - caramel. Which is contrast to my attitude. I am hot tempered, could be sometimes tactlessly frank, and occasionally irritable. On the other hand, I could also be sweet to the people that I like. Some come to me when they need advice and many say that I'm a good listener. But most of the time, I'm really moody. Don't know why, I'm like that... *sigh*

Thanks nishant5n! But I still don’t want to be hot tempered. I want to try & control it because I feel bad after I unintentionally hurt someone for being in a bad mood. And it's also a bit rude and embarrassing in my part for being sometimes mad about small things. I feel like I’m not being nice to others.

So, you are an exception to this research But, did you see you are helpful to others and ready to give advice and help which is in agreement with this research I think you should not worry about that...be what you are

I am a person who loves to eat sweets like chocolates. But now I cut down my intakes as my blood sugar level is at the borderline and one wrong move I will be a candidate for diabetes which I would not want to happen since a lot of relatives have succumbed earlier to the disease. I think there's certain chemicals that stimulates the brain to releases enzymes that lightens the mood of an individual who take sweet foods like chocolate. Taking in moderation will surely benefits us.

I see... So if you work out or something after eating sweets, then your blood sugar can be controlled? Can that still maintain a positive mood?
@nishant5n (1067)
• India
29 Oct 11
@ichipink, yes working out will exhaust your glucose storage and thus sugar level will go down. As far as positive mood change is concerned, that is related with brain and hormonal changes which will occur as soon as you eat chocolate/sweet.

Oh, you must be cautious...a change in lifestyle can help you a lot. Go ahead, have sweets, but take a walk after it...your sugar will be controlled.. Yes, you know it all, the chemical is hormone and its name is serotonin...

happy diwali nishant, well we have a proverb in our local language here saying that "the one who is fatter,is better at heart.so this discovery of your's is indirectly linked to my proverb. fat people mostly love sweet and so they are good at heart.though its not the only reason behind the obesity. though i am not fat(as i feel about myself),but i love sweets alot.i don't eat them regularly, but if i do get my favorite box,it gets emptied in no time.and chocos?i know they are not good for teeth, but i love them too.and i hope i am good at heart as am ever ready to help.i won't say much about me here or else you will say "apne muh miya mithoo" lol have a nice day. p.s: i finally managed to write a bit long post then my usual as i am taking inspiration from you.

Hi khare_1005! If I'm not mistaken, there is actually a study saying that eating chocolates can be healthy for our teeth. I don't know the exact quantity of how much healthy and bad, but maybe we can research about just to be sure.

Chocolates for you - Have some chocolates have perk up your mood.
Many thanks and a very happy Diwali to you too Ms. Khare! Yes, your proverb is indicating the same fact which I have proposed here. Actually sometimes we have to put forth our qualities and it does not look like boosting ourselves...so you are not "Miyan Mitthoo" per my views... It is extremely honorable for me that I have inspired you. Today I will share one secret with you through personal message. Further, you can give enters in between to write in paragraphs, so that it will look a bit more lengthier. Here is your Diwali gift in advance. You can eat it as fast as you can as till then I will share some more sweets with you . .

Sweet is really sweet - Piece of cake
People who love sweets have pleasant personality, are helpful, cheerful, do not get upset easily, and have a kind heart! Oh well wait, I do love sweets so I just have to examine myself. Honestly, I am helpful, very cheerful, I do get upset easily once in a while depending on the circumstances but in most cases I always do practice patience and modesty aside, I have a kind heart. Nevertheless, I don't think this has something to do with my love for sweets but rather because of my relationship to Jesus. He is the source of all the good things in me not the sweets. That I believe. So I'd remain sweet and will remain lover of sweets nonetheless.

Who said Jesus is not sweet? As far as my understanding goes and if we have to compare any taste with Jesus, definitely that will be the taste "sweet," right? Anyways, many thanks for such a lovely response. I will you always remain sweet and Jesus be with you...

Another good reason to like sweets! I have also heard that a small amount of dark chocolate is healthy. The key being a "small" amount. I have found that the older I get, the more I like sweets. Maybe the older I get the nicer I get also.

I dont care what effect that Choco has on me and my ill health but I love them and munching a pack or two whenever I can lay my hands on those is what I always look forward to What are your plans for the week ahead? Some days off from work and play poker? Normally we are all allowed to play rummy and stuff like that during this festival

Hello nishant5n Sorry I am typing with my mouth full of chocolate and it is your fault. you offered the chocolate. hehehe I am not much of a chocolate eater, simply because I don't like the texture of it. I rarely eats sweets but not because I don't like them, but because my hips could a bit more then me. For several years now I have been eating on the very healthy side and sweets is something I forgo. However, I rarely get angry and as you without reason. *blushing* These are very informative links and yes I agree completely as I know several women who take a great deal of comfort with sweets. Nothing like a good sweet treat to get the mood inspired and feeling good. I have also heard of some women that during the time of the month it is very comforting as the hormones are bit a unbalanced.

Wow! Who knew eating candy will make you a better person, not including the fact that too much sweets is very bad for your health I love my sugar! Every time I have dinner, I always have to eat something sweet after, something like desert. I usually eat my chocolate Tim Tams or a nice sweet creamy cake So delicious and I become very happy when I eat it but once it's all gone I'm sad I don't know if this is true but we'll just have to see! I have a friend who eats a lot of sweets. She simply loves chocolate and she loves sugary candy as well. She eats lollies every day and she is a sweet person but she does get upset pretty easily. If you don't talk to her or give her attention, she'll start to get angry and upset so I don't know if sugar actually makes you sweeter or maybe my friend is just like that.

As I remarked in one of my replies to a similar research based issue in these forums, the problem with these research studies is that one day you have a research that generally is contradicted by the other research. A recent research pointed out potatoes are good for health; another recent research pointed out jogging does not help in your fitness and so on. It is difficult to accept any research finding unless strict research protocols are used and being peer reviewed in a journal does not necessarily mean the rigorous standards are followed but only that they have followed the adequate criteria of research. What I mean is research sample should contain population from across diverse parts of the world including diverse cultures and ethnicities. The study should have been done over a long term and results compared over the time frame. Any research that makes a universal claims as this one needs appropriate scrutiny.

Yes, that is the way the truth comes up. Innovations and Discoveries came into affect after a long series of researches. Research and re-research -- both are essential for new inventions/discoveries. It is a healthy part of research process, right? But where did you read that jogging is not good for health? Since this was published in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, it must be having some proper protocols and procedure which you mentioned. It is evident that it was not conducted worldwide but still there was some protocols.

I know it very well Dear Shibham. Until now there are two exceptions, You and Sid -- both do not take sweets but are sweet. Actually, if possible one should avoid salt and sugar always as they both are silent killers of our health. Most of the health issues are due to them only. Have a great day buddy.

Very well said, really I also think the same...it does not really mean that those who do not love sweets are ill-tempered or something... I think, it is just a research-based probability and just depicts a possibility only. I also think that it does not means that others who do not eat much sweets and chocolate are necessarily have different type of personality. They can also be of pleasant personality and temperament.
