Adopted Sister

I recently found out that my sister was put up for adoption when she was born and I have never met her before. The other day I was looking through some photo albums at home and came across an album that had people in it that I had never seen before. There were baby pictures, school pictures, letters from some Brianna and I didn't even know a girl by the name of Brianna. I kept flipping through the pages and just got this very confused look on my face. At that time my mom walked through the door to the bedroom and saw the look on my face and looked down at the photo album. She came and sat by me on the bed and just let out a long sigh. She looked at me and said, "I don't know how to say this, or why I didn't tell you this earlier, but you have a little sister." Instantly my eyes grew big and I wanted to know more. My mom had me when I was really young and I still to this day don't know who my biological father is. After my mom had me, she started drinking heavily and even got into drugs. 3 years later she found out that she was pregnant again and she knew there was no way that she was going to be able to raise this baby on her own again, so she made the choice to put her little baby girl up for adoption. We were living in California at the time of her arrival and moved to Minnesota when I was in 3rd grade. I am now 23 years old and just learning about my little sister. I searched her name on Facebook and found her right away. I knew it was her and sent her a message saying who I was and just saying that I wanted to get to know her more. She accepted my friend request and exchanged phone numbers. I have talked to her everyday since then and its just amazing how similar we actually are and we didn't even know about one another. She is actually attending college in the Twin Cities and so I have talked her into meeting up within the next couple months to finally meet eachother. I am thrilled to finally meet someone who is my "sister" that I knew nothing about, until recently.

Wow that is a pretty amazing story. Is Brianna your sister or the woman who adopted your sister? I'm just wondering, because if your sister was writing your mom and sending pictures then she probably would have known about you and I'd wonder why she never contacted you. good luck with meeting your sister.

Brianna is my sister and the first time that I contacted her she said that she has been trying to find me online through Facebook. However, I have a different last name then my mom does so she was never able to find me.

aakirk Welcome to myLot Wow what a story you have..it could be a movie or book. Maybe you should consider writing one or at least submit an article with your details. It sounds like a’ happily ever after story’. Though you might feel sad you lost some years with her, be glad you found her now and will have plenty of time from here on out. Congrats again..I am vey happy for both of you

That is very cool that you are interested in meeting your sister. Although be careful since you didn't go through someone to find her and went through facebook you might have gotten the wrong person. Facebook isn't the best choice of finding people cause there are many people with the same, name and age and can even look a lot like each other. I would first have a blood test done to make sure before you get to attached to her.
