In support of wild animals

This story out of Ohio where 50 wild animals were set lose and had to be destroyed because it was to dangerous to allow them to run lose until they could be tranquilized, just makes me sick. If we are going to rescue endangered animals there must be laws to protect both the animals and the people where they will be kept. I have been in favor of trying to save these endangered beasts, but I'm starting to rethink this. When I look toward the future what purpose is there in saving these. Can we ever see a time when a tiger will run free as a tiger is meant to be? In reality is the fact that these beautiful creatures are endangered due to excess human population which by need or greed are taking over the tiger's space? And if you accept this as truth then what is the purpose of saving them. To keep them just so many can walk by and admire their beauty? Something is wrong here?

I don´t see what an endangered tiger is doing in Ohio. There´s no way that anyone can take it where it belongs. So it is just another poor tiger in captivity and, afetr those horrible news, a danger to people that would not know how to handle that situation.
I imagine that saving wild animals is having spaces where the animals can roam free. There are places like that (unfortunatly less than they should).

You are so right...guicha, when we put people behind bars ..it's jail! When we put animals behind bars..it's for the human's pleasure! They don't belong behind bars, they belong FREE to be, in their natural habitat! I find it sad, human's have to possess things...such cruel and unusual punishment!
I belong to another site, Care2, which is fighting for all animals in captivity to be released..and we raise money to buy refuges!
I am hoping this is a spectacular day for you..dear one!

Hi savypat, I agree that something is wrong with the idea that such animals be kept alive just so we can walk by and admire them. They were meant to roam free in the wild, but will this be possible? It is something that will need to be considered in the near future. Blessings.

I have followed what news, I can, regarding this issue...and my heart is completely torn out!
As the world develops, population increases, we are learning to set aside "green spaces (parks) sometimes even VAST areas, to appease humans! Vast refuges for Wildlife should also be considered in the mix, so that these beautiful creatures that Mother Earth bestowed upon us can live, too! There is a reason for every creature, insect gracing this earth, for ecology balance! So, yes I believe we must save them!
My question would be...how was this person allowed to amass this collection, and keep them in the squalid conditions that they were without intervention?
Wildlife reserves in NATURAL habitats, are a must!

That was a sickening story. I think that everyone who heard of that lost a little piece of their heart. I can see why it would make you rethink things. As the world becomes more and more populated with people...they just keep getting pushed out further. It is terrible.

That is cruel. They should have just kept the animals caged. Why did they have to let those animals lose in the first place when, in the end, they'll just end up shooting them. What they did was wrong any way you look at it.

I think these animals should be saved. After all, they were here before us and we are destroying their habitat. Humans are the greedy ones. Humans will also be the reason of humans becoming extinct. If we faze out everything that was intended to be, the eco system will be shifted and the end for us will come. I am not being religious, as I could care less about that. It is just a fact of nature. There is a balance of the eco system, every creature serves a purpose. These animals should always have a place to run free, we should not keep on mowing down the forests to build for financial gain.

Some one on My lOt started a discussion about this yesterday, but from the point of view of danger to herself with wild animals roaming around. I responded with concern for the animals beinga bit shocked that the My Lotter mentioned casually that the animals were being shot.
Later I checked our local news, in australia, and was stunned to find out how many wild animals had been shot. I couldn't believe that at least some of them could not have been shot with a sedative to be captured?
It seemed like the police just took immediate action without even thinking of the animals welfare. Also apparently some of the tigers are a very endangered species.
It just seemed such an over the top reaction.

I agree that the human population is endangering the animals and that wild animals need to be able to run free but we also need zoos and animal preserves to allow children to learn more about animals that they would not normally get to see. I don't understand why these animals could not have been captured and put into those type of places. I understand that they could have been a danger to others but it was night and they were not attacking people or animals.
I am ware aware of what could have happened, but I also have not seen any proof that these animals were causing issues other than roaming free. They were not out because they had attacked the owner or anything, but because they were let out of cages that they had lived in.

As far as I know, this man was simply a collector of exotic animals. Ohio has some of the most lenient laws for such things. I watched a special recently on people who collect these wild animals. There is a HUGE market for the sale of them. Most of them are kept in very small cages. They are not for educational purposes, but rather for the emotional needs of the owner. The owners feel a certain power and special-ness in being able to "bond" with these animals. It's really all about THEM and not the animals at all.
This man's act was a VERY selfish one. He was over $60,000 behind in income taxes. He was upset at the community's criticism of his keeping these potentially (and ultimately)dangerous animals. His solution? Let the animals free and then kill himself. He chose to endanger everyone else rather than set aside his personal need for emotional fulfillment. He could have sold these animals and paid his debt, instead, his wife will more than likely have to deal with it. What a guy!(sarcasm)

Nothing wrong in LETTING THEY LIVE, men should just leave them be, we have no right to eat, wear and product test on them. They should just be left alone. It's all an excuse dear, they just want to get rid of animals.
That's why I went Vegan, I have absolutely no blood in my hands anymore.
And I stopped smoking almost 6 months I think (yay) soon I learn they were tested on animals, on Dogs! On Beagles!
I think I don't use any animal source whatsoever, I'm clean as is my conscience.
