good day dear fellow mylotters,
i was thinking what to do with my nephew, as he always rejects to drink a glass of water everytime he ate his meals. as he prefers to take instant juices, instant iced tea or cola. instead of drinking a glass of water, he would always asked his mom to do and prepare any of the three types of drinks that i have mentioned. due to this, i am quite tense that my nephew will grow with a high blood sugar. and if ever i am trying to give him a glass of water, he always refuse to drink it, instead, he will put the instant flavoured juice or iced tea inside for him to drink it.

He sure does need his water. I would ask his doctor what to do because he needs it. Water is a number one thing all of our bodies need. I drink other things like pop and juice but I make sure I drink lots of water. Our bodies become dehydrated if we don't have water in it. I am sorry to hear that your nephew is doing this. I would try taking some of his favorite things away to see if you can get him to drink some water. hen tell him if you drink some of the water I will give you your stuff back and see how that works.

That is bad indeed.. Water is more important than any of these.. it is very refreshing and people need to eat at least 8 glasses s pure water daily.. Maybe you should discipline him and keep him away from those juices and colas for some time.. So he would have no other choice. GOod luck.

Drinking water immediately after meals is not good for digestion. Even juices also. So ask him to have them after 1 or 2 hours of his meals. Hope this will help you to guide him.

Your nephew is like me, I don't like to drink water. I don't like the taste of the water, but I sometimes drink because it is really good for the health. Since your nephew doesn't know much about health, he refuse to do so. Just give him a frequent regarding the good benefits of drinking water.

I don't know if drinking flavored sweetened beverages had been scientifically proven of having any connection with medical problems later on in someone's life....but talking for myself I think it does...until now like your nephew I don't like drinking water, even after I was diagnosed of having diabetes....other than drinking sugary drinks I can't think of any other reasons as to why and how I got this disease....I hardly drink water Almost all my liquid intake are artificially sweetened beverages.....diet cola, skimmed milk etc...
MY suggestion is to have him drink artificially sweetened beverages,or be firmed on not letting him drink those sugary drinks....he have no choice but to drink water when he gets thirsty....

That's really something. All of my life, I have enjoyed drinking water, and can not imagine people who do not. If one were to add any kind of flavouring to my water, I would not drink it. I like it plain, right out of the tap. My hometown of Guelph Ontario has the best tap water in the world!

I was the same when I was a child. At that time I didn't want to drink water since it is plain. I preferred to drink the juice and soda water much more because I like the sweet taste. I think your nephew is the same. He is just too little to realize the importance of drinking water.

Your nephew is not alone. There are many people who are not fond of drinking water not knowing what good thing they are depriving themselves by doing this. Many people prefers soft drinks such as cola drinks and ice tea over water not knowing that all these colored drinks are dehydrating them apart from destroying the lining of their colon, kidney and liver and a lot more bad effects on their body.
Your nephew will surely regret having rejected water once he already has UTI, kidney problem, ulcer and many more. Iced tea is the favorite of most for they think this is healthier than cola drinks. Hardly do they know that iced tea is just as bad as the cola drinks.

It's up to the mother, if she doesn't have those things in the house, he CAN'T drink. She should care more about this. I have a cousin that got diabetes at age of only 24 because she's been too much into sugar since she was a child, but when she was a child it wasn't her fault but her mom's. Tell the mother about this. For you it's so sweet to care but you are not there, I don't know what you can do about it. But you should insist with the mother, maybe she doesn't even realize.

Here's a suggestion - I see that he's adding the instant flavored stuff inside it already. Help him decrease the amount bit by bit, week by week. He'll be more inclined to drink more water and less of the sweet stuff.
Another better suggestion - add some fruit slices, a squeezed lemon/lime/orange, or slightly crushed berries in the water and let sit for a few minutes. It adds appealing flavor without the worry of too much sugar. Tried it with orange bell peppers and black cherries and it tasted grand!
I hope my suggestions really help!

That's really hard. Even though your nephew keeps on refusing it, you have to tell him that it's important for his health and that it's only for his own good. Emphasize to him that drinking at least 8 glasses of water is really important.

It is not good to drink beverages only, especially for such little child. Drinking too much beverages may cause diabetes. I don't think that he wants to kidney dialysis every day for 4 hours in his whole life. It would not be solved by injecting insulin because it's not diabetes type I which is caused by insulin gene deficiency. I think you could a small spoon sugar or use honey instead which is not so sweet to a cup of water. The boy may like to drink it due to its sweetness but not so sweet to cause him trouble. I prefer honey water instead. It is really tasteful and also health to body.
