Do you get worried when your children does not drink their needed water requirement? Well, I am, its because that me and my husband both have a Urinary Track Infection and we don't want them to have it too. And of course we would like them to have a healthy kidney. I tried several ways to do encourage them like a short lecture on the importance of water. Then, I also tried to give them Gatorade instead of water and also flavored water. They may want them for some time but they are still craving for carbonated drinks and ice tea. A bottled green tea is their favorite but I am still worried that it might have a bad effect on them. I think, exposure to different taste that is available at the market nowadays makes them to crave with sweet drinks rather than plain water.
Lucky for those who had trained their children at an early age to drink water, they are worry-free on the health of their children.

Drinking water would be a good habit for kids to get into, rather than sodas and sugary bottled drinks all the time..adding cordials or squashes to the water might encourage them, but then you're swinging around to the sugary drinks again..how about sparkling water?

I drink minimum 1 to 2 litres of water every day besides liquid drinks like coffee, tea. Whenever I go for taking classes in colleges, I drink one more litre water because there we have to talk for five to six hours.
My children also drink less water but not to an extent of fearing that it may affect their health. thirst will make everyone drink water automatically.

I sometimes worry my kids don't drink enough water. They don't really like to drink water at all. I try to get them flavored water and stuff. I don't drink enough water either. I hate the taste of plain water. I usually drink bottled water with a drink mix thing in it to flavor it.

R3j, it is always better to train children to learn to drink water when they are still at a tender age. When they had grown-up, it is a little bit difficult to make them drink plenty of water. But, i always make sure that my son have drink enough water for thhe day, by filing up the water bottle in front of his play table. I always reminds him to drink water, because if not he will have constipation problem. So, he understands it and can said almost everyday he drinks enough water, to overcome his problem.

I always have time getting my kids to drink water.. Now that they are getting alittle older they drink a little bit more.. Caprisun sells flavored water that my kids love.. Still has sugar in it but much less than juice.. Also I used to fill there cups up with water and top it off with there favorite juice that way they are still getting some water in them

Well, I am guilty of this. I know I have to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. But I prefer soft drinks over water, which is bad for my health, I'm aware of that. My family has a history of kidney failure so I keep telling myself to stay away from these carbonated drinks but, god I can't help it. It's like I'm already addicted to it. I always allot some of my allowance in buying soft drinks when I'm at school. Whenever I don't drink soft drinks, I feel terribly weak and can't focus on anything.
The bottom line is, if you don't want your kids to be like me, try to establish some rules for them to drink water. Don't give them extra money so they could not buy soft drinks when they're at school.

I understand that you can't control what your kids do when they're not at home, but when they are at home, make water their only option. You don't have to supply them with soft drinks and other flavored drinks at all. If they get thirsty enough, they'll drink water.

I think one way to introduce them to drink water is to eliminate bottled and canned drinks at home.Make sure that water is readily available in the table on meal times. If your children's favorite drink is tea,you can prepare a healthier version of it at home rather than bottled ones. That way you can have tea's benefits minus the preservatives. You can also prepare natural fruit juices like orange and lemon.

One suggestions is to buy frozen juice or drink packets (no sugar added). Over time you can dilute it more and add less sugar or even substitute sugar for something healthier like honey, agave nectar or stevia. Eventually they may enjoy drinking water and less sugary drinks. Don't buy drink bottles because you have very little say as to what is add at least if you make it yourself you can have some control over how it tastes and how strong it is.

I was like that when I was a kid, my Mum tried so hard to try and get me to drink water everyday. She would put in a water bottle in my lunchbox but I would never touch it at school. I couldn't believe I went through a whole day without water at school! I use to just drink little juice pops or those flavored colored drinks that were really unhealthy. But every time she put water in my box, I would never touch it. After a while, my Mum got fed up and started to scare me about kidney failures and diseases. So since then, I drink a whole bottle of water when I'm at school. I try to drink 7-8 glasses a day which my Mum claims is the minimum you should drink everyday. But water is good!
