Are You happy with Your Name?

...Or Would you consider changing it,either to something simpler, more exotic,or to publicise something? A (UK) TV show I was watching mentioned the procedure requires only nominal paperwork and a fee (£33),and thousands have gone through with it in the past Year..It was so simple, apparently,a Guy changed his name to something outlandish online for a laugh (And paid the fee to do so?!) and claimed he only realised it was for real when the confirmation paperwork arrived in the post!

When I was younger I couldnt understand how in the hell my mom came up with my name and what made it pretty to her . I also had the thoght that it was her evil way of getting back at me because she hated my dad....Now that Im older I think my name is lovely not only because my mom gave it to me but because of its meaning...{Sakeenah}calm by the grace of god.....yea thats me...

I don't like my name, but I don't know that I like too many names more - so unless I could really change it to Elic, I probably wouldn't...

You got your name, and You're stuck with it...While on the subject, how much do you like and relate to your Avatar name here? In the past,I've used online "Handles" and met up with a group from an online chat channel I was a member of...It was nice to finally meet the gang I'd have chatted to so much, but introductions by the online name I'd used was a blast!

Exactly.. You related more to the online persona you knew more about... (Slightly OT..)I watched a TV show last night about "Second Life",and some people who'd invested a LOT of their time and life in that virtual "World"..The Main story was that of a (Married!) American Woman Who'd struck up a relationship on SL with an English Guy..it was getting so intense,She was apparently spending 14 hours a day at the computer in a virtual relationship, leaving her husband to look after their kids and trying to maintain a normal family life with them..I'm not sure how long She was able to keep up the pretense that it was "Only a Computer Game..!" but things went on to the point that she went alone to London to meet the Guy to see where things stood between them,if they had a chance IRL..cameras were following the situation in a documentary style. The Guy seemed to behave as a Perfect Gentleman, taking her out and showing Her London, but it was clear things had changed, that the Virtual relationship wasn't going to play out in reality..She returned home and was trying to work through whatever relationship issues were there with Her Husband who was waiting for Her,describing himself as like "Forrest Gump",waiting for his "Jenny"...

well, I got to met GardenGerty when I went to Kansas this last spring and it was hard to think of her as her name rather than her "handle"

I do actually really like my name because it is not a common name and I also believe I am the only person in the world who has my name simply because my first name is Itali followed by a double barreled Irish surnames of which I kept my maiden and added my husbands! I do like my name! : ) Lol How about yourself!

I don't have any problems having my name,it's not that uncommon, but some people don't seem to grasp how it's spelled and call me by a similar but differently spelled one!

I'm happy with my name but if given the chance to change it, I'd change it to "Joe". I like that name. It's simple and common. It's also easy to remember.

So You'd consider going from a name that would have some uniqueness to one that was less so? Interesting.....

Yep. I'm not really after uniqueness. I believe I can give personality to any less unique name.

Yup. In fact, I did a deed poll twice. The first time when I changed my name a few yrs ago, it was partly becos my birth name sounded really awful. However, I changed it again this yr partly becos e name I first changed to was too long.

Yup, twice.:) I hv actually thot of changing it again recently cos according to numerology, my English name plus my surname wld b a perfect match with my date of birth.:) Anyway, it's juz a thot. I wld rather stick with my Chinese name, cos being a Chinese, my Chinese name is more impt in determining my destiny, etc.

I have a three letter name 'Yza'. I like it and I love it. My mother gave it to me, due to the reason that my name is based on the name of the doctor who helped her while she is giving birth of me. I will not waste a single cent in order to change my name I am happy and contented on it.

Would You pronounce it as "Eeza"? I worked with a Spanish Girl named Isabel, and that's how She shortened her name for friends...

There was a time when I didn't care for my name. I had never heard the name Jolene before and it was always getting mispronounced. I hated having to tell people how to say it and spell it all the time. Now I seem to be seeing a lot more people with that name and it's spelled the same too. I like that it's unique.

I am very happy with my name. I have never thought of changing my name. This was given to me by my parents, and I am sure they must have given a lot of thought when choosing a name for me. With all due gratutude to my parents, I will certainly keep my name.

When I younger, I didn't like my name. My first name is Rosanna, and I've always gone by Rosie. I didn't like it when I was younger because it sounded much too feminine, and I was a tomboy. It didn't fit with my image of myself. Over the years, I've grown to love it. Yes, it's somewhat feminine, but it has strength and an edge of bounce in it, and let's be honest, I've never gotten mixed up with someone else! I had two best friends at one point in my life, and both were named Megan, a name that wasn't in short supply in my generation and is still seemingly popular. I remember all the identity confusion they had, and I'm very happy I never had to go through it. I would like to change my middle name, though. It is Louise, after my grandmother, and I've never cared for it. I'd honestly like to change it to Awesome. My husband and I jokingly refer to myself as Mrs. Awesome, and I use the word like it's going out of style and would love to spread laughs and joy to people whenever my full name comes into conversation. I feel like my interpretation of myself and my name would be complete if I did this change, so I'm planning on changing my middle name once the grandma I was named after passes. I wouldn't feel right doing it beforehand for some odd reasons. When I married almost three years ago, it was an eye opener to change my last name, because it WAS so easy. I think people spend their entire youths gaining an identity of themselves, and as children, names mean far more to us than others. Once I was on my own and changed my last name to free myself from binds involved with my maiden name, the simple process didn't seem quite right. That had been my NAME, something with which was my very existence, and yet it's changed with simple paperwork and a couple of days. I couldn't believe it!

Yikes,I'd managed to pass over the concept of Wives taking Husbands' Surnames on getting married when starting this discussion..I'm now wondering would it be the same procedure as this "Deed Poll" one..? Thanks for responding!

My name is Meaghan and I'm very happy with my name. It's an Irish form of Margaret. In Ireland it's pronounced Mee-gan, but that doesn't go with my middle name, so I just tell everyone it is pronounced Megan with a short 'E'. I love my middle name as well. I was named after a great aunt of mine whom my father looked up to a great deal. I feel so honored to have her name. When I was younger, I didn't like it as much, but when I got older and realized where it derived from, I felt amazing to have inherited it!

That's interesting..I'd have Irish-American family connections, and I'd know "Megan" from them, having a cousin by that name..And living in Ireland,I'd not be familiar with "Meegan"!

I get that..reducing your name to a nickname or a "Pet Name" should be for family or intimate friends only..not for those who don't deserve that privelege....

If it's a name that's been used before in your family, there's a sense of tradition about a name like that..
