Ozzy osborne is considered as father of heavy metal but i believe the credit should go to black sabbath as a whole band. I like other bands such as metallica, led zeppelin, iron maiden, acdc, but i think they were the pioneers of the metal or rather heavy metal. What do you think?

It has been attributed to Fred Jackson Lewey but David Graves George claimed to be the original pioneer of the heavy metal as cited in

- sorry to make a joke but couldn't resist
I was never a huge fan of heavy metal but remember hearing some of these bands like Led Zeppelin for example. For me it was a little scary. I guess rock was going off in another direction.

Well, Sabbath as a whole are the pioneers of Metal. Within Sabbath itself, Tony Iommi Created the sound and Geezer Butler the lyrics. Ofcourse there are Metal bands they influenced like Megadeth, Iron Maiden Judas Priest. And yes, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are influences but are not strictly metal. Led Zeppelin are certainly, the more commercial and furthest away from being Metal.

Black Sabbath were the first to play heavy metal.Of course there were many pre-metal bands, where sabbath took their influences from!
