It is HORRENDOUS! and so revolting and nasty and all.. It really gets on my nerves when you are walking and then you suddenly step on those random nasty spits of grossed liquids from people who don't have consideration on other people who will step on it! worse is when you are walking, all of a sudden some random person will spit along the road of you pathway. so rude and nasty. this is the reason why i sometimes wish i live in other countries like Singapore where spitting is a big NO! NO!(even chewing gum). but then again even if there's law here in the Philippines that prohibits or banned spitting on public not all will follow. You just can't teach old dogs new tricks. Any who I just want to vent cuz i got so grossed out good thing there's mylot i can't vent and get rewarded for it ;p Share your thoughts why don't cha :)

Filipinos are stubborn, yes we can say that! Because that's the truth. There are so many people here in the Philippines that don't even know the word GROSS or DECENT! I wish the government will impose this ordinance in a more serious or stricter way. punish the violators. Such as.... what punishment would you suggest? Drink their own spit, put it back to their mouth?

I do also think that it is horrid to see people spit on the paths where other people have to walk.I think that it is not just the younger people, but it is also older people.I know that in some places they do fine people if they are caught spitting on the path.

I hate this too- and it is a common thing here- even our neighbors do it. There should be a law against it! This is also another reason why I walk so carefully, always looking at the ground since i might step on these. I also hate people who trow bubblegum on the ground... I just stepped on one while going to church..and uggh, it was so hard to get off.

spitting in a public place is very disgusting and really awful,i really hate to see people who spit anywhere and everywhere they want, though there are things we can use when we spit such as tissue paper, then dump it,that is why i love to rain so that those spit on the road will be washed.

Yeah I don't understand how some people can just spit like that too. I mean if you really really have to get rid of something in your mouth, go to the restroom or at least get out a tissue or something! Don't just go around spitting! You don't spit around while you're walking in your house do you?

Thanks for mentioning singapore!! lol Well, singapore is strict when it comes to such offences and thus u don't see it happening often. I believe if your government there were to impose penalty or high fines, there might be enough to deter people from spitting. But of course law enforces must do their job well too, and not be corrupted. IF not, all laws imposed are useless, just like malaysia, known for corruptions.

I totally agree, this is a disgusting habit. A lot of people do it around here but only the teenagers. It is actually illegal where I live, around here you can get a $1000 fine for doing it though I don't think anyone actually ever has.

i dont like people spitting anywhere. i think they must look for a trashcan or something or a sink or a bowl to do it. i hate the site of the spit and also when we step on it it so yucky.

Yes, I hate this habit too. I don't do this but I notice a lot of people especially men spit on the streets or on other public places. It just shows how uneducated they are. I noticed most men who do this are not much educated.

This is an abhorrent habit all too common in India. I didn't know this thing is there in the U.S as well. In India, betel chewing is quite popular so people tend to spit a lot. However, I think this habit exists anywhere in the world because of lack of awareness. In civilized colonies in India you won't probably find it. Those who are in the habit of chewing betel leaf especially in high societies in India traditionally keep a spittoon used for spitting into and cleaned everyday. I guess, this nasty habit is a carry over from our ancestral past and as the society we live in become more clean and hygiene conscious, I guess this habit will slowly die down. But we must be able to accommodate and bear with people because they don't really understand what they are doing.

well i feel that only when dictatorship is brought into the rules, the rules will be followed. if there comes a rule in every country like " THOSE SPITTING ON ROADS PUBLIC PLACES WILL BE FINED 5$ or 250rupees or any equals." only then people will stop it..

Spitting is public is just awful. I think it comes from people not caring what other people think about it. if you watch any football/ soccer match you're bound to see the footballers also spitting on the pitch which i think is not setting an example. You're right though, in Singapore the law (or at least social norm) is not to ever spit or even chew gum and spit it on the ground, it is so frowned upon. I think the government should ban spitting out gum and fine people for doing it...

This is a very nasty habit in all countries not only in Philippines. I think if people think ones before spitting they will not do it. But why they will not even try to understand others feelings??This will be great unanswered question for me.

That is indeed gross. I've heard from a relative that in their building, tenants would spit on the floor of the corridors! I'm already so used to seeing spits along the street and to hear this kind of behavior occurring even inside buildings is something new and unimaginable to me. That is why wherever I walk, I would look on the ground. You'll never know what you'll step at along the way.
