Shoosh or shut-up?

I know i am not the best mannered person on this planet, i think. But, i do try to have at least some manners, even if i loose my temper so often. Now, i will rather tell someone to shoosh, which means, keep your mouth shut, in case someone want to know the meaning. I will never tell anyone to shut-up. That is awesomely rude and really bad manners. Do you tell people to shut-up? If yes, why do you do that? Come here, so i can whip the crap out of you, for not having any manners.

How dare I command anyone to 'shut-up'. It is not in my vocabulary. I believe in diplomacy and expect to be treated likewise. Telling someone to shut up is not only rude but undermining others intelligence. And the fact that we are in mylot show we are in possessions of a bit or a lot of intelligence in our brains. And people with intelligence should have a sense of respect for others. It is more polite to use body language by putting a finger over our lips to put our words across. Don't you think so?

Hi sweetie. Well, i have a pic where i put my finger over my lips to quiet someone down, but then i was asked if i am picking my nose. Now, i mean really, shoosh became the in thing then as shut up is really not my style.

Nope. No Ma'am. I think that is the height of rudeness and whilst there are occasiona when I might think it; I can't imagine myself ever saying it. Shame because I'm in the mood for a spanking today. (I know that you offered a whipping but that just isn't my thing.)

I'm nice until it is time not to be nice! In other words once you are rude to me Or push the wrong button, I will verbally lash out. So I use both. I use Shoosh when a person is about to divulge something they shouldn't Or say something that you Wish will happen so they don't jinx it. I use Shut-up More these days as a way of saying " No Way!" Like The shoes are on sale . I would say Shut- Up! But When a person is on my last nerve I will say Shut The F@ck up!

Cynthiann, I have been using the F word since I was 6! The first time I used it my mom just laughed. My mom swore like a sailor. And I will make every other word a curse word when I get angry!

No I didn't! I am kind to animals and children. Thinks: But not to rat bats. nasty flying creatures. would like to kill them all out. Put that whip away right now. Or I will get my friend on Mylot to say 'nucking fhuts' to you and to your ilk. Thinks again quickly: Oh where is Kat when I need her? My bp is raising. I can feel it. I"ll have to go out and find a nice Jamaican yardie boy with an M16! No seasoned muffins for you anymore.

I'll do the finger to the lips "shhh" if I'm trying to not make noise myself, even just the finger to the lips... but there are times I'll tell someone to shut up, but only if I need them to stop talking RIGHT NOW so I can listen for something important - like a siren.

I have several friends who are more that capable of holding onesided conversations and often don't anything until it reaches the "shut up" stage... then b!tch because they don't believe you tried to quiet them before it...

I don't believe I have ever said "shut up" to anyone even out of anger. They sound so hurtful. I can politely ask to please be quiet but it has to be someone I really know. I have said Shh, but in loving ways Saphy. No one to date has complained.

Oh my growing up in the Foster Care system those words were so casually used. I was in each time I heard them. So I guess growing up with them so loosely used caused me to refrain from ever tormenting someone with them.

I don't do that to the people I don't like to make the others feel bad, if I am watching TV and that person keeps talking I like close myself to that person and don't listen, and listen the TV only. The only person that I say shut-up is to my son when he keeps replying me like he has the reason, so I make him shut-up in order he understand that he is the child here not me.

Thank you sweetie. Anyway, most adults don't have any manners and we have more trouble with them than with children. At least kids listen now and then, but i think shut up should be used on adults who don't have manners. Agree?

Hello, sweetie. So early here in my country and yet yours is the first one I saw. Seems like you have not gotten enough rest yet. I don't have the best manners but I pretty sure know how to control my words especially when dealing with other people except my husband. I don't say the word, it is either 'hush' or a long 'shhh' just to make a point that I don't want to hear anymore of anything further. And it is often good enough to keep one's big mouth shut.:D But, just like I said, when it comes to my husband I say it loud and clear."Shut up... Shut up... Just shut up!" is my favorite line with a tone that's range from being soft to like a hyena's scream. It is very effective on him, you know. :-) Keep your cool ,sweetie. *hugs*

Hello, this immediately made one very recent encounter with my intemperate boss who in a fit of uncontrolled outburst used that loathsome phrase against me which enraged me so much I had decide for a moment I would put in my papers right then. He then cajoled, regretted and tried to make amends but it didn't amuse me at all. I didn't take the extreme step, because I pity such souls who marry in haste and repent at leisure-so to say. I knew he was honestly apologetic. We otherwise have a good rapport. The fact that I didn't precipitate matters nor did I hold it against him for nagging length of time, is testimony to my own considerate & mild nature. So, having known from recent personal incident as also many other instances where I have seen people use such ill mannered tongue at people, I would never never say shut up to any one. In fact if I have to restrain something unfriendly or negative happening against me I would say 'hey come on...' and not the unsophisticated phrase ever.

Hi sweetie. You must be considerate and mild natured then. If my boss told me to shut up he will have his teeth on the floor. I cannot abide any ill treatment or bad behavior towards others. I'm just flighty, i think. Good for you, to let it slide though.

I dont think it matters if you say shoosh or shut up either way it depends on the tone used as to weather or not it is offensive. I tell friends to shut up all the time but in a playful manner so no one takes offense, but when one is serious in their request I dont think it would matter what words you choose to use NO ONE LIKES BEING TOLD TO BE QUITE, U have every right to express your opinion no matter if it is right, wrong, or painfully annoying.

Hi sweetie. The tone i use will normally be very soft. I don't believe in talking loud even when i'm angry. If its a plyful manner and people are use to it, then its just fine, as long as you and your friends understand each other. Expressing your opinion is good, but there comes a time in ones life, that a bit of silence is necessary.
