I actually mixed up a batch of cookies last night. they had to be put in the fridge for several hours so I did not bake them til this morning.
But as I was mixing and looking at the recipe, I realized that this recipe is from my mothers family and is over 180 years old. I am the fourth generation that is making it and also kind of chuckled as I made these for all five of my children to teeth on.
they are a light buttery tasting cookie that is always good with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
It just hit me that the recipe was that old and thought I would share with you that my family is still making this cookie.
Do you have a cookie that has been passed for generations through your family?

I love cookies. But I haven't tried to make one myself. I have made brownies though. Anyways, getting back to cookies. Our family doesn't have an old family cookie recipe but I really want to make one. maybe I will be the one to start a family recipe. :)

It would be nice to have a recipe passed down through generations. My father didn't like sweets and my mother was always on a diet, so she never made cookies. Actually she left when I was 8 and I did most of the cooking, so there is no recipe of any kind that was passed down.

If it is an easy recipe I would love to have it. I only make things that are pretty easy because I really don't like to cook!

Not necessarially has to be hard, but naturally you know how cookies will harden if not eaten immediately.
It was a neat cookie that would not soften easily so similar to the teething biscuits that are out on the market for kids (at least they had them when my kids were growing up) they could gum them and know they would not choke on crumbs from a cookie.
Yea as I was mixing this it came to me that this cookie went back all the way to my great grand mother.
Naturally I never met my grandmother as she passed when mom was 7 years old, but I got to know my greatgrandmother up til I was 21.

No cookie recipe...but potato salad recipe. The potato salad was actually made by all my aunts (now deceased). All my cousins grew-up loving it. My daughter had to have it so my last visit with her we made a huge batch. I thought we'd never eat it all??? ...well, I was wrong. It all disappeared in three days. Wow, are we potato salad crazy.
In addition, I am fortunate to have a ancient cookbook my mom used religiously when I was growning-up. The cover has fell apart, but love the old book.

I have bought little journal type bound book types that I have copied my recipes in I have went through like 5 since I got all my family recipes plus ones I make faithfully.
I went to pick the book up to make these cookies and the top bound cover fell off
I think I am going to go find a 3 ring binder and print these recipes off and put in sleeves so maybe I won't have to copy them again LOL
My mother made a potato salad that I have never seen anyone else ever make.
I have made it a few times and my husband who had never had this kind and (actually it was the ONLY kind I grew up with) while he said he liked it he was not that sure I don't think.
Now I make all kinds of potato salad, but before I grew up and branched out so to speak mom's potato salad was the only one I knew of.
Thanks for reminding me I have to recopy all my recipes now too LOL
Have a wonderful day and WELCOME TO MYLOT!

I make each year some christmas cookies that are mostly eaten before Christmas. I invite (one at a time) my two youngest grandsons and we make the cookies. The biggest mess is the decoration. I use the dining room which has more space and fortunatly has also a laminated flooring. After the pieces of art are made, the table and floor are covered by coloured frosting and those coloured small pearls that find their way under the chairs. I hope that some day, when they have their own children, they will remember the cookies they made with grandma many, many years ago. I have some recipes I have used throughout the years, but I´m the first generation in my family who makes cookies. Most of the recipes are from The Joy of cooking, The best cook book in my opinion. I do have recipes from my greatgrandmother, but they are main dishes, mosatly hot dishes from the peruvian kitchen and pasta and sauces from my italian ancestors. YUMMY!

WOw!! If it taste really good you should turn it and make money from it by selling your cookies to others!(^^) We don't have such old recipes and I would be so happy if we own one. I plan to bake some cookies or cake today. I really want to eat some of them now.(^^)
