Is Mary a God?

Hi guys! God said in the ten commandments "You shall have no other gods before me"," You shall not make any graven images", but the question is why is this practiced?. Some religious sectors make images of Jesus,Mary and other saints and bow down to them and pray when God already commanded us not to do this. Do they realize this? God commanded us not to worship other gods except Him but why do others pray and make Mary the queen of heaven. She is not a god and neither are the proclaimed saints, they are just blessed people and so are we, so why pray to them when we can pray directly to our God the father, this is misleading . I am so upset because many are blinded and they just do what their leaders in church tell them to do. That is why reading the bible is very important for us to clarify the things that are presented to us and o know if this is really the truth. The commandment of God is very clear ,this are first two commandments and its time for us to think twice before doing this things that are an abomination to our God.Read the bible and think about it.No religion ,saint ,person, church can save you only Jesus can.

Don't be upset. Not all will follow the path of the truth. Each person has to choose. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is a fine example for all of us. She is a good example of submission to God and compliance with His will. However to give her adoration, veneration or any undue elevation is displeasing to God. Keep reading and studying the Scriptures and you will discover many fine truths for godly living. All the best!

Remember that the original language of the Bible is not English. There is a big difference/ different meaning of the word woman in Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek. You are really interpreting the Bible in your own culture and interpretation. But the truth is, Jesus has a high regard to women especially to his own mother. He did not say they were second class citizens because they were just women. Only Jesus was able to break the culture of discriminating women according to Jewish tradition. That's why the Pharisees got angry to him. I would suggest: if you want to know the background of the Bible, you study but do not interpret it according to your own understanding and interpretation. If you want to summarize the whole Bible, it only conveys one word and that is LOVE. And that love will be for everyone including women and all other people regardless of their religion. You are a liar if you've said you love God but you don't love your neighbor by accusing and criticizing them of so many things. Jesus said don't judge so that you won't be judged.

Hi! I have also read about his god of fertility. It has been in different forms and names around the world. Its a deception. When Constantinople was converted into a christian he could not leave his practices and other preachers tolerated it, that's why roman catholic was born. Their practices are mixed with pagan practices and a lot of Catholics do not know this.

I don't why people didn't follow such commandment. The priest who always lecture that verse did not follow it and they are blind... Mary never called God and our Lord Jesus Christ teach whom to worship. The Father alone (God) no one but the Almighty God...

You right, friend. The bible is enough to be our guide to do good and everything. It also teach us how to be save... But the bible did not say Mary is God or must worship as others practices...Whom they always pray to Mary or any image they want to worship instead the creature

Hi! The importance of reading the bible is very important .That is why before we practice something that our leaders are teaching us to do, we must first check if God really commanded us to do it and if it is the right thing to do.

Hi There! I think I've answered a similar discussion once before, but ended up going around in circles because none of us actually had any experience of what the Catholics actually do or how they see it & what they use to support it. I followed one of masang's suggestions & found the explanation here to make the most sense: http://www.americancatholic.org/features/customs/rosary/mary_worship.asp Perhaps Protestants have got a few things wrong? Maybe a misunderstanding somewhere? Do you have any experiences of Catholics openly bowing down to these images in an act of worship as if worshipping a God? Maybe we see Catholic services on TV & take some things the wrong way, for example? I doubt very much if I will join them in such acts though. I really don't see the benefit nor the sense in revering someone whom you have not met nor know their life completely. I can see the argument given can be seriously flawed in this regard. It seems like becoming a very watered-down approach to God, like Chinese Whispers, though there has been cases in the past, particularly throughout the Middle Ages where this has worked for them. So I'm in agreement with many of the points you have raised & admire your ability to read & think about these things for yourself rather than being dictated to by a church - any church - who should know better.

Thank you for responding. I'm not confused, just trying to take both sides of the argument & asking questions & researching answers rather than making assumptions about something even I don't know every single up-to-the-minute detail regarding the Catholic Church, Catholics & what exactly they practice nowadays & how they see it. I do agree with your comments. God Bless you too!

Hi!!Oh sorry for misunderstanding you. You are definitely right, just refer on the bible for answers because it will be hard if we just asks from other people's opinion. We should do more research about this too be more enlightened. Thanks.:))

Mary is not God but a noble woman, and a mother of prophet Jesus by virgin birth. You're right, she should not be worshiped but to be followed as a good example of modesty.Mary is given a great honor in Islam and is followed by Muslim women with regards to clothing but she is not referred to as the queen of heaven because God is absolutely one and does not have any partners. As the first commandment given to prophet Moses said you should only worship one God -- not three, nor saints, nor men.

Yet Muslims continue to venerate both Muhammad and the Quran all the best urban

Oh yes, sorry, I forgot to mention that God plus God plus God equals God, in a similar way to that in which infinity plus infinity plus infinity equals infinity.

So, if there is no veneration in Islam tell me this, for these questions will expose the veneration hidden in Islam 1. What is the status of the Quran? Was it created? 2. Did Jesus sin? 3. Did Muhammad sin? all the best urban

I have never heard before of anyone saying that Mary is God or Goddess. I have heard saying that she was the mother of Jesus. But besides that, I think that you should not be upset if different people worship in different ways. You do your worshipping the way you see fit, but you are not wise enough (noone is) as to know for sure what is "an abomination to our God". I am not seeking salvation, but I respect that you are. But I ask of the rest of the people an equal respect for my beliefs. Lack of respect is part of pride. And if we turn to the Bible, that is the worst sin. Relax. Live and let live. We are all God´s children.

You're absolutely right. Sometimes people of other religion will accuse other religious beliefs and unfortunately what they are talking about is not really the belief of that certain religion that they are accusing. Ever since, I did not hear from our priests and catechists that Mary is a God. We only thank the Lord for giving us good examples to be followed like Mary. Her "yes" to be the mother of God, to do the will of God is not that easy. I really don't know why they don't respect our belief. In fact it is written in Chapter 1 of St. Luke particularly the Canticle of Mary and I quote: "All generations shall call me blessed..." That's why we always pray the Hail Mary which is also Biblical. It is the greeting of Angel Gabriel to Mary in the same chapter.

No, Mary is not a God; shame on everyone who claims they see anyone worshiping her. Is George Washington a God? Is Abraham Lincoln? David? any other 'venerable' person? No, they're merely 'good examples,' much like Mary and all the saints.

Hi! I think instead of condemning them we should pray for them and share God's word to them so they would be enlightened. You are right Mary is a good example of a woman who is obedient to God:)

I'm so sad that you really do not know the teachings of the Catholic Church. In my 43 years of existence, I did not hear even in our Theology classes that Catholics worship Mary as a God and the same thing with the saints. What is really the truth? This argument will take time and a longer discussion. So I would like you to log in in this site so that you will understand: http://willingcatholicmartyr.blogspot.com/2009/04/bible-teaches-praying-to and-venerating.html . You can also search "Do Catholics worship Mary as a god?" You've said that no religion, saint, person, church can save you only Jesus can. Yes only Jesus can save us. But our religion and etc. will be a great help for us to be saved. Even the early Christians had their community or the Church: You read all the Letters of St. Paul so that you will understand the importance of having a Church or Christian community. Lastly, do not interpret the Bible literally, in your own understanding, because what is written in the Bible has its own historical background. You research why a certain Bible text was written, what is its background. You have to know the customs, the culture why it is written that way. Friend you research and stop accusing other religion. Do not be a fundamentalist who interprets the Bible literally word for word. God bless you...

Hi! I am sorry if you got upset about this. But can you please tell me why the Catholics are praying to Mary and other saints even though God has commanded us not to bow down and pray to images are made only by man.No where in the Bible can you find a scripture that tells us to pray to Mary or other saints. True enough that religion or church can help us draw near to God ,but it cannot save us ,it is only an instrument which God sent for us to be able to have fellowship with our fellow Christians and to learn more about Him.Even my religion cannot save me,only Jesus can.God bless
