In most cases in the Philippines, crimes are made because of poverty. Although not all poor are committing crimes, I guess the two are really associated with each other. Poor people who do not have work and cannot find work, tend to rob or steal as answer to their problem. But I don't know if we should blame them or the government. I believe that if these people will be given a job, they will not resort to these crimes. Also, if young poor people will be given a good education, they will be able to get good job and will not commit crimes too. Do you think poverty cause crime in your country?

I donĀ“t believe that poverty itself causes or increase the crime rates. I believe that is a mixture of factors, and poverty is one of them, but, more important that poverty is the lack of oportunities, when people do not see a way out of his/her situation, tends to be more violent, there is also the great diference between the rich and the poor that causes discontent, and a serious crisis of values. I believe that if goverments invested some more money in education, and in offering the youth, oportunities to get a fair job, or creating their own bussiness, the crime rates surely, at leat, will stop growing.

Poverty is one of the main reason why people steal. When people have no jobs, no money but a mouthful to feed, they have no choice but to steal to feed the hungry stomachs. The government should be responsible for the welfare of her citizens by either creating a lot of job opportunities or extending welfare aids to these poor citizens. Eradication of poverty should be the top priority of any government before they see the prosperity of their countries.

I do think that poverty can certainly be one reason/cause for crime. It certainly doesn't help the situation. However, I wouldn't say that it is the only reason/cause for crime, but it is certainly part of it.

In the 1930s, poverty hit very hard in the mid-west states. But ironically, crime did not increase. I believe this was because of two factors. One is that people had a moral belief in God, that said God sees us, and knows what we do. Whatever a man sows, he reaps. Similar to 'whatever goes around, comes around'. The other is that the government was very zealous at imposing the law. If someone broke the law, they were found and punished. The government has no ability to 'create jobs'. The government can only provide a legal system to protect the public from criminals, so they can make jobs themselves. This is what I think the Philippines should do. Enforce the law, and allow the people to make their own jobs.

Poverty cannot be used as a reason for committing a crime. In my country, jobs are aplenty unless you're choosy. The really poor lives in the countryside where people live in close knitted community so they will help one another. They grow their own food and rear domesticated animals. So there's no crime among the really poor who live in poverty. It's the lazy people in the towns and cities that are committing crimes like snatching women's purses, mugging, breaking into houses and so on. So I don't think it's poverty. I think it's the lack of responsibility and proper upbringing that drove some of these people to commit crime.

i don;t think its poverty, its because of the mindset of an individual.bad habits cultivate as an addiction and one who gets involved in such activities, never have a come back.haven't you herd about smugglers?do they have any less of money?but still they do such black market work.its because they are money blind and hungry t get more and more without putting in much effort.those who want to succeed through shortcuts, take up this path.

Poverty is a factor, but not the only factor. If a person is starving because they are poor they should not have to steal in order to eat but in many countries they have no choice. Education is important and useful but it does not stop a person being poor and it does not stop them turing to crime. Just having a good education does not mean that you will get a good job and no longer be poor. I have a university degree but I am still poor. Greed is a bigger cause of crime and you will find a lot of rich criminals with or without good educations. A good education can make a criminal much better at being a criminal.

Yes, i believe alot of times that is true. Although not all poor people commit crimes there are also people that are not poor committing crimes. Also holding up a sign begging for money is a crime but many dont know what else to do.

Does poverty causes crimes? hmmmm in same cases it does and it others it does not...it's all depend on the person I find females will not fall for this sort of activities...females usually would go and get a job when males would go and commit a crime because is the easier thing to do? to me [and that is my opinion any way no offense to any one]]people tend to do crime because that is their choice regardless of any situation and sadly that is the truth! In my country young people commit crime because they are a spoiled bunch! they should go to a third world country and work for a living!

Yes I think its true but not fully because in India most of the criminal are rich man like IPS officer son, Politician's son means the most of the persons are rich and they do the crime but in other way poverty is also the reason of crime because Govt. not paid the proper money for poor people. In India also the crime is increasing day by day

I don't think so. I think unfair politics from the government can cause more crimes than poverty.Citizens of a country are never theaves or robbers ever since they were born.As long as there are fair and good politics, they can earn money legally and live a peaceful life, and never want to risk being thrown into prison to commit crimes.

What is the root cause of poverty?, corruption I should say. If you will start from the bottom;Homeowners Presidents, the Barangay Captains, the Mayors,Congressmen, Governors, Senators, the President and whatever positions linked to them. You will get the results of how much each are taking for every procurement in projects that are actually not needed but is funded. See every step of corruption for every department, which benefits only few leaving behind the should be benefited. And with that, population of uneducated keeps on rising and since the children of those well fed corrupt can afford the cost of education then they will always lead to succeed in the future and the cycle keeps on turning back to their favor. The war comes out as survival of the fittest, and the corrupt are the sure winners. The Corrupt dictates crime. The Corrupt lays poverty.

Here in the Philippines it is obvious sometimes that poverty results to crime. Because of the scarcity that every Filipinos is experiencing, they're were pushed to steal or kill people just to get money. That could be a ransom or as payment from someone.

HI, Reco! Poverty might be one of the causes of crimes BUT we should not blame our government if we have a lot of poor people that resort to crimes to have a lil bit of income to sustain their family. Even if one is poor it's not just right to commit crimes because they are poor. But then again I'm not in their shoes so I really don't have any rights to just preach to them what is morally right and wrong. It would have been great if our government would have some kind of financial assistance to those who are unemployed or those who are homeless but I THINK that would NEVER happen. Our government officials would never make a law that would make life easier to the poor.

The rich and powerful people can do more crimes and gravest crime ever. The uses their power and money to gain more money and wealth. Unlike the poor ones, they can commit crimes because of their loved ones and family. for a little money and food. But for the rich and powerful ones...they committed crimes for luxury and extra activities that they indulge with.

It might be one of the cause and reason to that. Like I said in your other discussion, we can't blame the government hundred percents. There are chances and lot of opportunities around them. It just they themselves to take or not to take it. Crimes are everywhere. We might say that some of them are desperate to go on with their lives and choose illegal ways to get money faster. The issue here is whether they really have morality and humanity in themselves. If they know the bad and the good they dared not to do such things even they are in desperate conditions. I will not blame totally the society which play a vital role in giving the 'perfect' concept in order to gain a 'perfect' life or the government for 'not giving enough facilities and opportunities' to us. We decide on how we should live the life given to us. So don't waste it out. Crimes will only lead to more disastrous things that might happen in our lives. The poor need to think how to get out from their condition, they can't seek for the help from others only~

Well, it is hard to say. Crime has no absolute relationship with poverty. But it is true that poverty could cause crimes. How could people live under the unsound and unfair socail systems?

Hello Reco, Poverty and crime are undoubtedly associated in most of the cases.People who don't have enough money to eat food or to feed their family likely have the last choice to steal money or rob people.I have personally seen many people who do crimes just for the sake of food.No doubt if poor people who don't have money can't get proper education & if government give aid and can give them good education for free no doubt poverty can be reduced and henceforth the crimes can at least be reduced.

People, who are in poverty are misused by many people for their personal benefits. crime is also done in this same way.
