Not allowed to promote halloween?

In the charity shop where I volunteer we have been told that we are not allowed to put out any Halloween products even though we have often been asked if we have any black dresses/sheets that people can use for costumes. It all come about because one of the shops had a Halloween display in their window with a head stone that said R.I.P and someone complained as they said it was offensive. So because of that complaint we are no longer allowed to put Halloween products out in the shop or do a window display for Halloween. It does seem such a shame but I suppose we have to be careful not to upset people. What do you think, should we still promote Halloween? Have you ever been in the situation where you are not allowed to celebrate/promote Halloween due to a complaint?

I'm offended by the fact you DON'T have anything out. Now that's one for & one against. What do you do now? Seriously, someone should have just told that other person to shut up.

I agree that they should of told them to but I suppose as the shop relys mostly on donations from the public to sell they have no choice but to listen.

I think that's a great shame. a halloween display doesn't have to be gory or gruesome. a lot of people enjoy halloween. and if you don't celebrate it, you can just ignore it. a display in a shop window isn't going to hurt you.

I agree it is a shame that they listened to that one person as you say a lot of people do enjoy halloween.
