Well tomorrow (Thursday) I get 14 new windows in my house. All this morning and afternoon I have been removing blinds; shades; curtains; drapes; and; hardware to have the windows ready for the construction crew. Only about 18 or so hours left. Now I have to wait to measure for new curtains etc as some windows will more than likely get new trim and it may not be the same size as previously. I so want to paint the whole insides as well but too much at this time to take on that task. So when was the last time you bought new curtains, drapes, etc for your windows?

I really enjoy making new curtains, but I have not done so in a long time. I guess it may be getting time to have some upgrades around here. I am anxious to see pictures when you get the new ones in.

I have some new insulated drapes. My daughter is taking them in 12 inches. I will pick them up tonight as long as she has them done. Oh, I'll be posting either Thursday or Friday with discussions and pictures.

Yay for new windows! We need windows so bad in our house but we can't afford them right now. If you count the attic windows which are full sized windows, we have 35 windows in our house! Five of those windows are pretty big, like 5 feet by 5 feet. I'm hoping to slowly start replacing the windows soon. We haven't bought curtains in awhile. I'd love to start doing that for each room.

The cost was an issue for us as well, but I cashed in some savings bonds to pay for them. They had to be replaced. 35? Wow! Now I have 15 total so I can only imagine the cost for replacing all yours. Would be $15K or more I bet. At least that much and probably more.

Oh wow this has to be exciting! I remember at my ole house I had all the windows upgrade and they looked like the ones in your picture. They were so easy to clean and instead of curtains I put in very nice blinds. I also put up trims as well.
Enjoy and take your time as I am sure you are having a good time with it all.

New things or changes are always nice in your home.
Brightens things up I feel no matter how large or small of a change it is.

14 new windows is alot. It will be expensive getting so many curtains so I hope some of your previous curtinas fit. this is a rlevant topic for me, as I move dhome three months ago. NOne of my old curtains fittwed the windows in my new home!
Some blinds and one set of curtains were already provided.
The main three windows without anything were the biggest windows at the front of the house.
So I bought vertical blinds; had them made to measure. They are very atractive. The cats were a bit confused at first as they love the window sills.
Anyway, good luck with the windows.

Yeah I guess that's a lot of windows.
4 of them are small basement windows.
I want the large patio type blinds for my large front window but my wife doesn't.
Decisions, decisions. HAHAHA!

I live in an apartment, and I'm not allowed to remove the vertical blinds. I think those kind of blinds look tacky with curtains, so I don't bother with curtains either. I guess that saves me some money not being allowed to do certain things.

I'm debating whether to put mine back up.

About 4 years ago I got some cute curtains for my front room, but they haven't been installed because I couldn't get to the window... hopefully this winter I'll be able to take down the old hardware and install the new and get my new curtains on the window! (at the moment I have shower curtains on the window!)

I have sheets hanging right now just to keep some cover overnight.
I bought some insulated drapes at Home Depot on clearance.
Not the best looking but cheap considering I needed 7 panels at the least.
Only paid $9 each panel I think. Close to that amount anyhow.

Two years ago when I totally changed the color of my dining room...from an off white to a brownish red. I put up the old curtains because I loved them but they looked horrible....three tries later I found some I absolutely love! It will be nice when you get your new windows!

That's the other problem I'm having, deciding a color for the rooms
when I repaint. I don't want the whole house all white again.
But who knows what colors will end up on my walls. HAHAHA!

Hey GB! Great to see you! Hope all is well and say hi to Minne and the
rest of the family for me! So you're having new windows put in. Are they
to keep out drafts or did you just want new windows for a "new look"?lol
My Landlord put in new windows a few years ago, but they were supposed
to be "better" windows at keeping in the heat and keeping out the drafts.
I used to get thick cakes of ice on the other windows in the Winter. I
don't get that anyore at least! They also tacked them on to the Rent
forever! That's what they call "Capital Home Improvements" do they can
charge us in the rent hikes for the continuation of the lease!
I actually have wanted to change my bedroom curtains to some with
insulation. I think I found a pair online, but would prefer to "see"
them "in person" so I can "feel" them first! Good luck with your window
installation. Then you can have the fun of picking out new curtains!
That will make the house feel like a "new house" just by changing
the "look"! Should be alot of fun! I love re-decorating!

Doing okay here. I will tell her you said HI! The windows are 50+ years old and drafty as all get up so they needed replacing badly. You've seen my ice crystal discussions, so you know how bad my windows were. LOL!

I changed my living room and dining room drapes last year. The other ones lasted over 10 years and were pleading to be changed. I also want to paint the dining and living room area, not so much because it´s dirty but because I want brighter colours. The last time I painted it, I arranged a painting party. I invited all my closest friends and family and made a wonderful meal. I gave them clothes to wear over their clothes and bouth the paint and brushes for everyone. It was fun and very unexpensive as the paint is not as expensive as the work itself.

Seems I am staying up late and washing the drapes I had up. Tested the new ones and it seems odd as they are a different color and just not used to them yet. In time I'm sure I'll grow accustomed to the new look and color. Sounds like all had fun at your "painting party."

Thanks for best response. And yes, we had a lot of fun painting. Several friends had never painted walls in their lives so it was like playing for them.
Sometimes it´s difficult to get used to a new look in the house, but it is always for the better. Happy remoleling!!!

My kitchen and dining room curtains are a maroon color and the windows are South facing so they get a lot of sun all day long. Now they are faded really bad in spots and look funny as heck. Thy need to be replaced badly.

Well, GrandPa Bob, if that is the case also with my curtains, then i will definitely buy new sets of curtains for our room. Those old ones could just serve as rugs.

hey there Grandpa Bob! when I saw your new avatar I was sure the new look was you! Nice do, btw.... Some of our curtains get changed every six months or so, for summer to winter or vice versa.. Heavier drapes for the winter, sheers for the summer.. That's about it for a while now. No wait, I do buy new sheers sometimes, if I happen to come across some, say at a yard sale or something.. Good luck with the new decorating!

Six years ago when I moved in here, every window in the house was bare. As I mentioned before, my house is mostly windows - they are BIG. I made curtains/drapes for the lounge room where there are windows on three walls; the office...I used some fabric I had and an old sheet as lining because the sun shines fiercely here. I put new curtains in my room; lovely lace underneath and rubber backed over drapes...the cat has since shredded the lace curtains. The spare room I used some curtains I was given and they are not really suitable so that is a project on my list. I made lovely lace curtains for the bathroom and loo and some cheerful ones for the kitchen as well as an open cupboard. In the living room there is a huge window...3.3 metres wide, luckily, it has blinds. The other side of the room has 2 sliding glass doors and windows the same size on either side of the doors (these open onto the front patio where I have a garden). I'm using some old curtains of mine there and they look great but they are about 35 years old now and so I have a bolt of fabric to make new curtains...another project on the list. There is always so much to do and living alone means I have to do everything myself...I'm exhausted just thinking about it.
Hope you love your new windows mate.

Last time I brought new curtains was about two years ago for one of the children's bedrooms.
We haven't long repainted our kitchen, I like the curtains so much and there is nothing wrong with them and they still look nice and smart so we have choosen different colours from the curtains to paint the walls.
Good luck on your new windows, what a very big job, hope the weather stays nice for you.

hi dear GrandpaBob that was long long ago. When I moved into my first rented apartment I didnt get these thick curtains but only the white light lace ones, as they were easy to wash and put back up where they belong. My husband also had nice curtains in his apartment and only one of them needed to be cut and we got two out of one, the others matched well in our first place so up to now, 6 years later, no new curtains over here. wheeeewwwww.
