Today I had my first shift at Victoria's Secret. I was really nervous when I went in because I was never told what I needed to do when I got to the store. Luckily when I clocked in someone told me to go in the back and get a headset and when I came out the store manager was there and he kind of told me where to go and then he walked me to the Pink section and had one of the workers give me a tour.
It's a pretty easy job I think and definitely not as hard as I was expecting it to be. Four people asked me to measure them for bra sizes. To me, that's the hardest part because I always seem to get different sizes than the other people who measure. So it kind of makes me nervous when I have to measure an actual customer. So I pretty much just walked around my section fixing up the displays and helping people find the bras and panties they wanted.
The people I work with are also pretty nice and I think I made a couple friends. Everyone was super helpful whenever I had questions and it made me feel pretty comfortable. I'm sure I'll get even more used to it the more I work.

It's great to know that you had some good people to work with! That's always the big question mark when you go into something new. You never know what kind of people you'd meet. I'm sure there would be some co-workers who would turn out to be characters. Just be careful, and not be too trusting until you get to know the people fairly well.

Yes, I'm definitely keeping my guard up for a bit before I get the feel of the store. Most of the girls in my section were pretty nice but there were a couple that seemed a bit stand-offish. I have to work tomorrow so maybe I'll meet more of the people. So far, so good though!!

Oh, I'm so nervous about getting my first job. Reading that made me feel a little better about it. I'm not very good at interacting with people, so I think I'll take a long time to get used to any kind of job.
Even though I don't have a job, I've been in a lot of situations where I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Like when people are supposed to inform you of what's going on, but they never do and it's really scary. It happens all the time at my school and I'll be left there. Haha. I got used to that though. I think a college environment will beat some of the nervousness out of me.

I can be a really really shy person. I'm friendly, but at first I'll be a little shy about it. And the thought of wearing a headset and having to talk to people throughout the entire store completely horrified me. I'm still nervous to have to talk through it but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get over it quickly. When I first start something new at a new place, I like to be told specifically what I should be doing. I never got that before my first day so when I went into the store I was clueless and had no idea what to do first. Luckily, the people were really nice and I told them it was my first day and they helped me out. It definitely can be scary at first, but that's to be expected at a new job, or in my case, a first job.

Hi Courtknee, I'm glad to hear that your day went well. You will be more accustomed to measuring the more you do it. I'm glad the coworkers were helpful and friendly.

Thank you :) Measuring just makes me nervous because I want to be able to give them the correct size so then they don't come out of the fitting rooms complaining about their bra. And I definitely didn't expect to do as many measurements as I did yesterday. I guess it's a good thing though so now I'll have more time to practice and get used to it

Hi,courtknee525,
firstly congratulations on your new job!
for me, i agree with you that when we come into a totally new environment, it would make us feel less nervous and comfortable if people there are warm hearted. Especially for me I felt it's good when I had my first job for the past four years, and I made a lot good friends in the last company and we used to go out to have team-buildings, play badminton, climb mountains...etc..all of them are the most valuable treasure in my mind.
While for my current job, i've been here for almost 5 months, but still I can't make myself integrated into this group becasue some of them are so exclusive and have more interest in the office politics.
I totally cannot understand what they are thinking about and maybe one day I would lose my patience to live with this unwholesome working atmosphere...

Thank you :) The coworkers definitely helped make my first day go a little smoother. I'm sorry yours aren't as friendly towards you. It makes a difference when everyone can get along and be friendly as opposed to just keeping to themselves and not being very welcoming. I hope that with time, you'll get more adjusted and maybe your coworkers will get friendlier.
