Having an MRI on Wednesday

For over a month now I have been having periodic back pain with pretty constant toe and foot pain. The first two toes, my big toe and my toe next to the big toe are the culprits that are making it difficult for me to tolerate standing or walking. I went to the doc, and she thinks it is my back causing it. She checked me out and ordered an MRI. I am having it on Wednesday. She also did a blood test for uric acid thinking there could be a little gout mixed in also... but because my pain is more nerve pain, she thinks it is a pinched nerve. My uric acid is a little high, but like I said, the pain sometimes feels like a broken bone, but other times it is nerve pain.. feels like hot fire touching my toes and also numbness at times. Anyway... all this chronic pain has caused me to become depressed, and I can't seem to do anything anymore. I can't sit at the computer and concentrate anymore... so I'm not writing much of anything anymore. My mind is mostly blank, and there is just nothing to write about. I hate being this depressed because it affects my ability to make money. The doc said if it turns out to be what she thinks it is, I can have some nerve blocks. I had nerve blocks before back in the early 90s because I had bad back and nerve problems back then. I hope that I can get back to normal soon. To make this into a discussion, please share what is going on with you. Anything you are stressing about? Please share.

I have been a long time migraine and headache sufferer. To the point that I am over using over the counter medication. Not having health insurance makes it difficult for testing. I went to a clinic the other day and they now want me to have a CT scan. They suspect more, but in the interim they also discovered that my sinuses are swollen shut which is the reason for the constant headaches and so now for the CT scan which I am hoping to schedule sometime soon. It is very expensive so I am trying to figure out how to get it done as the headaches are just so unbearable. I am a fighter and can muddle through but for the last 2 months it has cause me to turtle through. I hope all goes well with the MRI and that it is not the nerve block. I do understand the depression as the pain makes it just too difficult to function. One feels helpless and lack of motivation. I have after a couple of hours gotten up and not felt like returning to anything. Actually I am not sleeping at night at all, then it is causing me to sleep for one hour or two 2 - 3 times during the day.

Hi HWG I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with migraine. I know how it is like as I used to get them often as well especially when I don't get enough sleep. Sometimes it could be due to stress that we don't sleep well at night. Do get enough rest. Will keep you in my prayers and I do hope that things would be better for you soon. Take care.

Hi HWG! I am so concerned about your migraines. I do hope you get your CT done soon. It's awful not to have medical insurance or even Medicaid. I had a friend who suffered with 'sinus' and it turned out to be an inoperable brain tumor. I hope nothing like that happens to you. Hope you can get some relief.

Thank you both for the prayers and concerns. I have been dealing with this for so long. I am a bit on the scared side as they sure are getting out of control. I heard of a free clinic which I am going soon, sad that I hear I will sit all day and no guarantee they will see me on that day, but sadly it is what I have to do as hopefully whatever is going on can be remedied soon.

I do not have permanent employment, or health care.My unemployment is running out. I am pretty healthy as far as I know, though, but I have some health issues in my family that I would like to explore with the doctor. I do get depressed about the finances situation, and it is quite a while until I am old enough to get Social Security. I hope you get to the bottom of the problem with your back, or get the pain blocked. I do understand about depression.

Unemployment varies from state to state. We have three tiers of emergency payment on top of the first twenty weeks, so basically four rounds of various lengths. I earn a little online now, since I am getting more serious. Where do you write? I have started some independent contract work that pays decent, and if we put it on paper, we can just about make it. I possibly could get work at Wal Mart, or could have for temporary, but this pays more. I think hubby and I could get something other than unemployment, and he is old enough he is on Medicare, but I am eight years younger than he is.

I hope it isn't gout. That's why she tested for the uric acid, right? If it is a pinched nerve will you be having those injections they put in people's necks and backs when they try to block the pain?

I hope not also. Since there is so much nerve pain, I think it is caused from a pinched nerve. I have pain and burning at times and also numbness and pain. It's not always the same sensation.

My husband is feeling the same, it is an extreme pain, in his low part back, he have been in therapy, had two MRI, had a laser surgery, but nothing have work,I give him massages sometime and he says that he feels better but I afraid to make it his problem worst,he have being involved in three car accidents, and he have to lose 90 pounds at least, because the doctors say that if he loose those pounds the pain is going to be reduced, he have a scoliosis and the car accidents and his weithg made it worst, I feel sad for him, he work sitting for nine hours daily, and then come home for 30 minutes and go to the university by the time he gets home all what he wants is BED! so he doesn't have any physical activity and it make it worst, he paid the gim for a year and lost the money because never went, now he paid again for sisx months two month ago and haven't go even one time, he is always talking about going but he feels so tired and in pain. I am trying to help him with a diet no carbs only protein and trying to workout so that he feels inspired. So let's see. I hope everything go fine with your MRI and soon you can write that the pain is away!

It's very difficult to get moving when you are in so much pain you can't tolerate to move. I'm trying to stay busy around the house. I have to do it in spurts and then lie down or sit down. Hope your husband will get some relief. Be careful on that low carb/no carb diet. It can cause more harm than good. I got really sick and list my hair by being in ketosis for a long time. My bad cholesterol got really high too. I just eat a balanced diet now with 7 servings of fruits and veggies per day.

Well, that's sad news. I hope all is well for your MRI. I hope the results will be fine. Since you've mentioned that your uric acid count is quite high, you should try to avoid foods that are rich in purine or foods high in uric acid. I hope your pain won't get worse.

I think health is more important than making money right now. I'm sure it would not be anything serious and I'm sure you will be back to normal again soon once you get yourself checked and let the doc do whatever is necessary to make you better again. What I want to stress about actually concerns my 2 kids at home. They are both really giving me a hard time by not obeying orders immediately. [sigh] But kids are kids and eventually they would still have to do what is being told.

hi dear PQ I will sure get back to you this weekend. I am glad you had the MRI by now as your doctor can go from there and suggest helpful therapies for you. I am stressing about my morning glucose right now. About 2 weeks ago I found a great low carb bread which tastes wonderful and a small quantity fills you up nicely. Its heaven sent for a bread freak like me. I also had about 3 apples a day this week and lost a bit of weight. But my morning glucose is shamefully high compared to what is normal for me. Will have to ask my doctor when I go for the next checkup in December when things wont get better by then.
