Obama offers cash-for-votes student loan policy

As soon as I heard this new ploy of Obama to secure votes I thought to myself that he now realizes he cannot count on the Hispanic gratitude votes from illegals who get free citizenship. What a con man to now target the youth. Can this pseudo prez stoop any lower to get votes? Your thoughts?
President Barack Obama’s new student loan policy will force working class Americans to pay the ballooning college costs of middle class Americans, and will also hinder needed reform of the bloated education sector, say critics.
Obama is “shifting the burden of paying for college to all of those Americans who did not graduate from college — the waitresses, construction workers, mechanics — and that should infuriate the taxpayers who worked hard to pay off their loans, who decided to live a modest lifestyle to pay off their loans,” said Lindsey Burke, an analyst at the Heritage Foundation.
Obama’s policy is also widening the class division between working-class Americans and those with college credentials, said Matthew Denhart, a researcher at the Center for College Affordability and Productivity in Washington, D.C.
Whatever the real costs, the new subsidy could benefit Obama’s standing among the disenchanted voters in the coveted 20-something demographic. Almost 70 percent of that group voted for him overwhelmingly in 2008.

I don't really get this?
Who pays off student loans?
In australia, the student who takes out the loan pays it off, eventully, and no one else.
Once a student incomes reaches approx $44,000, then it is required they pay off their student loans. It comes out of their tax, so they have no choice.
Who are the coveted 20-something group?
So the people who did not graduate from college, in some way help pay the costs of student loans for those who do go to college? doesn't sound right to me.. sounds weird..

I do wish Obama would stay in Washington playing golf instead of out campaigning on tax payers dime or should I say dollars. From what I am seeing and hearing it really won't help them much. According to some economists it would only save between $4.50 to $7.70 per month. From some things I hear they are getting ripped off with their education any way. I saw some companies being interviewed about jobs. They have them but can't find skilled enough workers to fill them..

Obama's typical 'spread the wealth' message. And some say he is not a socialist?
This is even more special because it is being done in typical obama backroom fashion. He had instructed his staff to find things they can do (to buy votes) without getting congress involved. Since he has been in office his arrogant nose has stayed in the air and he thinks he is better than Congress.
Yet, here we have our sitting President doing nothing but campaigning. He feels no obligation to serve as leader.
Speaking of trash, 2012 is definitely the year to take out the trash!

now he is really digging the bottom of the barrel isnt he?
THink most of it pay for the students any how oh they get pell grants BUt takes years for them to repay if at all as tax payers we shouldnt be asked to pay that bill.
I would rather see them get a trade than spend a day in college for years and end up really no where some are even just waitesses now for the education didnt pay off

Exactly! He doesn't want to investigate the scams being perpetrated against all college students by the universities, in fact, he's in bed with them. This does nothing to "ease the burden" it just dangles more carrots in front of those who can be bought off cheap.

I can not say it is good or bad. As far as I know, that study in the college is becoming more difficult for most family. Most students would have to force to pay their debt after graduating from college. You can day its good because everyone get this way. Work hard and earn a lot money to pay your debt. It is a positive cycle. However, more people can not agree with that, especially jobless people. They argues that price is tuition is not as equal as their salary. It's not worth to have such debt. Well, if you need a degree to help you find a better job, you would need to pay for it, right? The university would be forced to adjust their polices if there is no student to enroll the school. This is a free market even for education. But, debt is really a bothering stuff for more young and jobless people. If the jobless rate is much lower than before, maybe president would not need to pass this policy.

Another example of the sneaky way this administration (and others!) get people to depend on the gov't. My mom spent years getting her degree while working full time and taking care of my siblings and I, in the middle of a horrid divorce for at least a year of it. I ultimately decided not to get a degree, which was stupid, but I went for a year and worked my way through. What's wrong with working your way through college? Simple...you don't become a gov't slave.

It's obvious that politicians do things like these to rally support and earn votes. And I say it's obvious because like everything politicians do to curry favor and avoid making hard and potentially unpopular decisions, this is just another throw-some-money-on-it so-called solution.
Never mind that throwing money at education has done nothing but allow the debt to pile up as a nation.
Forget that every time the government decides to back students' education the price of that education increases.
Hell, don't even mention that schools now have to gouge out-of-state students in order to make up for the lack of money overall.
No. The important thing here is not to attempt to address any issues that may cause students to go into debt in the first place. The easiest way to get votes is to throw more money around!
