When I was in 4th grade,I was subjected to probably the worst humiliation a 9 yr old kid could ever experienced from a teacher.I must admit that I was a bit talkative/noisy and didn't pay much attention to what the teacher was saying during class sessions.Without any warning my teacher would call me to stand in front of the class and depending on her mood that particular day,I would be ordered to do 1 of her three different ways of punishment. I was punished 6 times during the school year,3 times I was ordered to stand in the corner and take off my clothes(everything)stood there for an hour totally naked with 40 or so other students laughing and making fun of me.2 times she grabbed my face and forced to chew the hottest chili pepper there is,it was so hot and there's no way of relieving the intense heat, all I could do was cry helplessly.1 time she told me to collect trash on the school ground(her lightest punishment) At that time I didn't make much of it but a well deserved punishments for my actions. My parents was not even aware of what happened....last thing on my mind was to be told that I deserve it,or so I thought what their reaction would be If I told them. Looking back I realized how cruel and harsh those punishments were in relation to the offenses I made and wondering if it still being practice and going on back home(Philippines) I hold no grudges or hatred towards the teachers who do these kinds of punishments to young students,I just hope that they are made aware of such actions could have irreparable damage to a child's Psychological well being,as such in my case(ANTISOCIAL) So was it a well intended Discipline,Abusive behavior,or worst Torture?

Wow those were really harsh punishments for a kid! So I guess you're a really naughty one... my younger brother has been punished too for being so talkative in kinder and grade school. He has been asked to see in different chairs, and with the prof being fed up of him... one day decided to put his seat beside her. It was really funny, it's a totally different experience as what you have gone through. Just like you I always thought that teachers punishing students are just okay.. well I guess those were the times we all have high respect for them that we even think putting us in shame in front of the whole class is what we deserve from doing such actions. For me it can be considered as abusive - I'm sure there are other ways for teachers to discipline their students. If the students are really a pain the *ss then put then send to the counselor.

Maybe she's not getting any from her husband(I know it's not funny)that is why she took her frustrations out on her students.

thats abuse definitely and your teacher deserved punishment for being so cruel with students aged 9-10.How about other teachers and students nobody spoke against it?

No one dared to say something for fearing that they'll get punish too,I don't think the other teachers are aware of her actions.Heck most of them had some form of punishments to misbehaving pupils though not as severe, like throwing the eraser or banging a student's face on the blackboard for not answering simple math problem.

maybe, your teacher hated you to much to do such things like that. that is not a proper you to discipline students who are misbehaving. at least now a days students find their voices to tell their parents when they were abused like that. here in phils, before now and then, i watch news regarding this matter and how sad to know that many teachers were doing these things. in the first place why did they choose to teach when they can't tolerate such small things. as a parent, i would not allow to do like that to my kid. maybe you should have told your parents as the other told so. i am sure they have taken an action to you teacher before. i believe you already achieve something so when your teacher will see you, pretty sure, she could not be able to look at you because of shame.

I can't speak for her,I have no idea what went trough her mind in doing such horrible punishments not only to me but to other students as well, she probably thought that it's OK to do those things 'coz nobody have the courage to question what she was doing.
