Do you peel an apple before eating or you eat it with it's skin still on? Well according to research pesticide residues were found to almost 90% of apples sold in the market. Other people peel apples because they knew that pesticides are present in some apples so they are just making sure what they eat is clean. In fact other pesticides penetrate through apple skin but at the same time peeling the apples before eating may lower its level. Apple skin contains lots of phytochemicals so if we peel its skin we miss out very important nutrients. So how do you eat an apple?

I eat my apples with its skin on coz it was said to have nutrients. I have never read about the pesticide residues left on its skin, not until you posted this topic. So now I have to think about eating it with skin or peeling it off.

That's very true. There are really people that doesn't care to other people at all, they just apply different kinds of pesticides (particularly cheap pesticide) to their product may it be fruit or vegetable just to earn money. We are really sure what we are eating these days because there are so many pesticides that are being used by farmers. So just to be safe we need to clean the fruits and vegetables before even eat them.

I always eat the skin. Since I was little my parents would always tell me not to peel it off because it is where most of the nutrients are found. We just wash it thoroughly. This is also the case for other types of fruits and veggies. Yeah I've read about pesticides in fruits' and veggies' skin but somehow I don't seem to mind. Of course there are some fruits and veggies which skin I don't eat such as mango, avocado, banana (duh!, hehehe!) but for thin-skinned fruits such as apples, pears -- I include the skin. For squash though, as part of an ingredient in a local vegetable stew, we don't peel off the skin.

In fairness not all Chinese people are like that. We should not say things like that to them (or to any other country for that matter) else we would be accused of racial discrimination.

True. Not all chinese are like that but most of their product like that melamine issue and other toys and even candy made from china contains lead or mercury.

That's true. I love eating squash with its skin still on. I believe these's no pesticide used in growing squash in our area. I'm just concerned from imported fruits/veges because other countries specially china doesn't seem to care for other people's health. All they want is to gain profit.

Hi Jacruz. I eat an unpeeled as i was told that more nutrients are in the skin. Now that you mentioned it, can the wash away the pesticides? is there anything we should add in the water to wash those chemicals out? Something like baking soda perhaps?

There is no information as how to clean the apple to wash the pesticide or any other chemicals used to preserve the apple. To be on safe side, it is better to peel off the apple to eat.We can not rely on the wholesaler or retailer who sells the apples.

My sister and my wife used to peel off the skin of the apple and used to eat. But I used to eat the apple with skin.Later on I have also read some of the news that the skin of the apple may contain pesticides, or flour or a wax to keep the apple fresh. But , now I will wash and peel off the skin to eat the apple. Certainly peeling the apple will lower the level of ill effects of pesticides.

That's the good way to eat an apple. We should not take the risk eating the skin of apple.

I do eat an whole apple without peeling its skin. Before eating i will keep the apple in water for at least 10min and wash it thoroughly and then i will eat. Yes you are correct peeling the skin of apple will removes an important nutrient.

Your ways in eating fruits are quite remarkable. i usually clean fruits thoroughly but I don't leave it that long in the water. I eat the whole apple before together with it's skin but now I'll peel the skin just to make sure.

i wash apples and eat the with the skin on. but then i think an apple without its skin is a bit bland, the skin makes it taste more interesting. so i take the risk and hope the benefits of the nutrients outweigh the problems caused by the pesticides.

I don't think so. That's surely not worth it. You should not take the risk just to gain certain nutrients because a bigger price might come in in return.

Hi Jacruz! I usually eat apples with its skin still on it. I don't peel them. Not just because a lot of nutrients are in it, but also because it's just too bothersome to peel it first before eating it.

It is indeed very healthy, if the apples are grown naturally. But usage of pesticides and other chemicals are causing harm to our health. Hence, it is better to peel off the skin rather than ending up in some complicated cancer!

That's true. We better be careful of what ever we put in to our stomach because our insides are highly sensitive. We surely don't want to get sick..

not only pesticides but germs, salmonella, e-colli, fungi is always there that sticks on apple's skin..... but the apples itself is nutritious and not dangerous if to grow it with care.... the same reasons when planting rice, you apply chemicals in order for the grass pests not to corrupt those plantations and business....

That's very true. I think there should be nothing wrong if fruits and vegetables are grown in natural way or if they use organic fertilizers instead.

I rarely peel an apple before eating it. I don't think that here where I live they put that much pesticide on the apples, also, I always try to buy organic fruits and vegetables.

aple skin is nutritios, but we must know that pesticide is in it. so i think it is much better if we throw it away. or just get the organic one, safe and healthy

Apple is very good for health. There is saying that "one apple for a day keeps doctor away." But now a days apples are coated with wax to preserve. It's better we need to remove that and eat it.

It's quite make us confuse whether peel the skin first or eat the apple straight with its skin. But it is still quite risky to eat the skin since its may contain the remaining of pesticides eventhough its very nutritious. I sometimes eat it with the skin but sometimes peel it too depends on the condition of the skin. If the skin looks bright and clean then i'll just wash it as clean as possible and eat it straight. But if the skin looks a little pale and a little dirty then i'll peel the skin.
